Currently I'm turning an old lawn mower into a go-kart. Rear engined, lighter, 5hp Briggs motor, belt drive, clutchless, lowered, all that stuff. The thing's gonna be fun. I might post a video of it once I'm finished.

Matthew Duncan Truthfully, even a horizontal shaft 16HP Briggs boxer from ~30 years ago would turn it into a wheelie monster. Go karts in general are horribly balanced, very ass heavy, and it really doesn't take much to flip one over backwards. Anything into the double digits in HP will do it, especially if it's a heavy engine like those old flatties were. I'd like to build a full suspension RWD offroad cart using the FR layout and one of those old flatheads someday. Or maybe a V-twin. Having the engine up front oughtta make it launch better and would certainly help with powerslides and other such shenanigans. Should help counter the understeer most karts have, too.

If you guys are thinking about removing all the governers in the AWD go kart, there is an easier way. Under the gas tank there is a spring connecting the governer arm to the throttle arm. just put a zip tie through it and it bypasses the governer!

Next build project suggestion: Look at the stick shift go kart conversion that "Japanda Tuning" on youtube did using a racing cart chassis and a 200cc Lifan bike engine. He hooked up a clutch pedal and shifter and everything. It looks so sick and so quick. Also sounds a beast when he's gearing down. Like if you agree :D

This is all shit that I would've loved to have been able to do when I was a kid. I had a minibike that almost killed my mom when the throttle stuck wide open and she rode it into the row of bushes next to our house at 50 mph, but I never owned a go kart. That 4 engine kart must be awesome to drive. I watched the assembly of it. That is something my friends and I would've done.

The belt slips and burns like that because you need to set the torque converter preload on the driven pulley to 1 for off-roading/racing, and ESPECIALLY for tug-of-war-ing!! Lol

Make a 4wheel drive off road cart. Use an old 4x4 quad for drive train if u can. A detailed build would be cool to watch. Can use 2 of the parts u used on rat rod wagon even for the drive train so u don't have to run chain from front to back. And connect with a drive shaft. And use a 670cc predator for motor. Just an idea would be a lot of work. But I think it would be cool.

How do you make the 420 not idle so high, on my go kart it engages the 40 series clutch converter when not holding the throttle. I tried the black screw on the carburetor and it helped a little but not enough. Please help and thank you!
