Helpful information. I have most of the gear in my Subaru Outback while softroading in Arkansas; hope I don't have to use it. Your video reminded me of a few more things to get. You also reminded me that my wife & I need to practice using our come-along again. Thank you!

Nice work Jordan, great run-down of the essentials, and also an excellent reminder about the training, which I admit I haven't really done much of. And I still need to swap out my over-rated snatch strap for something better suited to my Forester. Definitely agree about keeping the recovery gear nice and accessible. Your setup with the rifle case and boards mounted to it is very clever.

Thanks mate ! The space is definitely limited and we also have to be careful with the weight ! There are a lot of stuff we can include in this kit such as axe en hammer ! I do have both of them I just didn't talked about it in the video. Hammer is with my other tools and spare parts in the spare tire well and the axe on the side of the driver seat ! I also have a foldable hand saw 👊
@4n461
@4n461 4 жыл бұрын
You have a good kit for your vehicle. Other things I carry in my Jeep are a fire extinguisher (not sure if you mentioned that), a small axe, a folding saw for tree limbs, a blanket, a large folded plastic tarpaulin in case you need to crawl under the vehicle in the mud, extra tire valve caps in case you lose one (never run in mud without them), tie wraps (AKA zip ties), and a couple of ratchet straps are handy to have. I also carry a battery jump box (or jumper cables).
@ALNSMOVERLAND
@ALNSMOVERLAND 4 жыл бұрын
All of what you say are also good things to have! (I have most of them just didn't mention it in the video) the tarp is a good idea! I remember ripping my rear bumper off and had to crawl in the mud, under the car to put it back on 😂 wasn't fun!

regarding training, i did a 2 day basic 4wd course a few months ago, lots of great information, and some practice vehicle recoveries, and then some real recoveries. was good to do some practices because it pointed out some flaws in our kit. I.E missing gear, that could be rectified before our next trip.

Nice. You forget axe and saw. And 5 tonnes strap is not perfect for Forester, especially if it is near to fully loaded (about 1800 kg or more). IMHO 8 tonnes is good. 5 (or even 6) tonnes is good for Suzuki Jimny, it's real lightweight. Forester is between middle and light.
@ALNSMOVERLAND

Hi Jordan, nice video! Why dont you want to have a high-lift Jack? It easily can be used to lift Forester with LiftMate accessories on your wheels, also you have a metal rear bumper to lift. Have you used your winch in real hard conditions? I saw many reviews that almost all they are useless 😅 I think hilift Jack is much more durable and powerful!
@ALNSMOVERLAND
@ALNSMOVERLAND 4 жыл бұрын
I had one but sold it very quickly. it's very heavy and we have to be careful with weight in our litlle Subaru. I though about the LiftMate thing but lifting from the wheel is not very optimal. As you said, the hilift as a hand winch is probably thougher, more durable and powerful than the hand winch I have but I don't think it's worth it. I will re-think about it when I have a "real" big 4wd hehehe
