Hill Country Spring rain. When I moved to Austin many years ago I delighted in riding the hill country backroads on my Norton Commando motorcycle. I was puzzled however by the 10 ft poles planted here and there on the side of the road. I soon learned that thunderstorms in the Spring dumped massive loads of water on the Hill Country soil. The red clay didn't absorb the water so a heavy rain could turn a dip in a road from a dry gully to a 7 foot deep rushing river in a matter of a half hour. Even a Bronco, a Defender, or a Wrangler with a snorkel couldn't cope with that. And nearly every year someone would be found drowned in their vehicle sitting on a dry road the day after a deluge. Ahhh, memories. As for the Bronco, I'm more a sports car and on road SUV guy but it's good to see that when Ford abandoned the entire sedan category in the US they held on to some very talented designers for vehicles like the Mustang Mach-E, the forthcoming F-150 Lightning, and the Bronco. Kudos.

Tom, How does it feel being a midwife? One of the longest gestation periods in automotive history is over and the Bronco is born. Good for Ford for offering a manual, short wheelbase 2 door as a base model that goes head to head with the base Wrangler. Ideally Toyota will be encouraged to complete a trio of affordable 4x4s by bringing something very much like the 2 door Prado to this market.
@DrivenCarReviews3 жыл бұрын

The Big Bronco was a good truck with room for storage and 4 people easy, this new Bronco 2 door is a rock trail machine to compete with a Wrangler, the old Bronco would whip this one at people's back seat room, storage space, and towing. The new one would whip the old one big one at rock crawler. I think more people pull a boat and hunt than rock crawl. So the old so-called OJ one was not that bad. The new one is nice. Tall and boxy isn't exactly efficient, plus Tom was "driving it hard" because he was late for dinner. I had a Ford Edge Sport with the 2.7L turbo V6. On the highway, I got the EPA 22 mpg, and up to 27 mpg if I took it easy. Combined was around 18 mpg. If I had more fun with it, yeah 15 or 16 mpg. Having owned many cars, with hybrid, rotary, naturally aspirated & turbo 4s, V6s & V8, turbos & performance engines are only efficient if you don't drive "enthusiastically"

They did so much right, but there are definitely some areas for improvement. Base model steering wheel and some other areas of the interior need massive attention (the flex in the back for the hard top connections!), trail turn assist = an easier way to rip up the trail, swaybar disconnect should be included with the sasquatch package, and you can't get the sasquatch package with the 2.3L (yet) and choosing Goodyear as a tire supplier.
@mechmat123453 жыл бұрын
