Rabbi YY is on fire for this one. Notably, however, his consistent description of today's youth as "honest" and "rejecting toxicity" always scrapes my skin. The ills of modern society are always reflected in its youth. The inability of people to accept criticism (even perceived criticism) and the inability to connect meaningfully with those who lived that history. These traits, sharpened by keen addictions to imagery and superficiality, make this era one of the most unreal, DIShonest eras of recorded time. Not that today's youth en masse will bother to read that record. Thus, the issue isn't most often that of "rejecting" our children: it's that our children dare us to, because they so often don't care---because they are supported in doing so by the culture. It's a rock and a hard place, so Rabbi YY's pointing to Yaakov is perfect: silence so as not to reject Reuben. Must we wait until our collective death bed? Also sadly, it's the wiser partner who cannot sink to--or even point out--this moral blindness in a generation that embraces self-destruction...as long as their enemies die first.

This doesn't get into enough practical help. If the child is in their 20-30's living at home 'only' smoking pot, hanging out with like minded friends? We need the community Rabbi's to step in and help get better role models.
