A quesion: Is there always this wagon in front of the boulder or do you have to ask the farmer and he goes "Are you a V16 climber? Otherwise don't even bother putting the wagon in front of the boulder.."

I thought the grading in climbing goes off the crux difficulty which is the big dyno move to a painful looking shoulder crimp. That is the same in both the stand and sit start so why is the sit start 2 grades harder?
@bhangrastan5 жыл бұрын
hotjavalava you aren’t quite right. Bouldering grades (Font and V, at least) are graded for the overall difficulty of the climb. So the sit adds more hard moves and you’re more tired when you get to the crux, therefore it’s a harder climb. English tech grade goes off the single hardest move though! All the different grading systems are different.
@hotjavalava5 жыл бұрын
Is sport climbing graded this same way or by the hardest move? @@bhangrastan
@bhangrastan5 жыл бұрын
hotjavalava The same way! Sport climbing and bouldering both take into account how long the climb is, how hard each move is and how they all link together. So you can have two sport climbs both graded at F8a, one is 40m long and very pumps but no single move is the crux and another 8a that is six moves long with a two move crux in it. Both are 8a because they are each of the same difficulty but in different styles. In bouldering, I’ve done problems that are two moves long, and I’ve done some that are twenty, but each are given the same grade!
@hotjavalava5 жыл бұрын
Well I guess it's pretty subjective since I have talked to route setters who have put up many FAs and say it's by the hardest move. I wish there was more of a clear formula to determine a grade.@@bhangrastan
@LukeD26 Жыл бұрын
@@hotjavalavawell those route setter probably didn’t explain it very well because I think it’s pretty standard that it’s based on overall difficulty

Anyone else appreciate how the editor ended the video with some urban firework lighting in order to evoke a theme of youthful rebellion--only pour cold water all over that sentiment with a big brother-esque "RESPECT THE LAND AROUND THIS BOULDER"? Note: Yes, I know they are trying to maintain access to the boulder with the last statement. It just creates laughable dissonance with the rest of the videos theme.

The number of V16 boulders seems to be increasing exponentially in the last year. Is the grade becoming softer or are the climbers becoming better?
@johnflanagan78705 жыл бұрын
Saul Spencer the quality of climbing has risen, just like the quality of sprinters and hockey players. Now, the climbers are getting bold enough to declare V16/8c+ because the culture has begun to recognize it.

Why are they using the wagon? Is there no way to do this problem ground up?
@thibaultpierson14954 жыл бұрын
How does adding one moove to traditional start (off the wagon V14) can raise the grade up to v16?? Though it's still massive and impressive, should the grade be v15 more than v16? Just asking (NOT JUDGING) because I'm asking myself when I'm bouldering in new area and I have to put a grade after a FA.
@aakashdeepmundi72264 жыл бұрын
Depends on the difficulty of the moves added. The one big move right before the V14 start is Insanely hard - feet are bad, holds point the wrong direction, small and sharp crimp to catch. If you look at his right hand during that move, it's at his hip - the move is huge and probably a V11/12 by itself. Stack a V14 above and you probably get a V16. Another thing is that it's a really physical move, and might tire you out for the crux move a lil bit
