I am so pleased to see you wearing full protective gear. you cannot take any chance of bringing those bugs back into your own home. I worked in healthcare for over 40 years and never wore the shoes I wore to work back into my house. You did an amazing job but this woman needs serious help. In my job we would have taken steps to have her removed for her own, and her neighbors, well being.

My mom was in assisted living in her last years. No dementia, but her vision was failing. She was concerned she would leave the stove or oven on, so she pulled the knobs off, put them in a bag and put them in the now unusable oven. She learned to “cook “ in the microwave. Meals on wheels also helped so much.

That was very perceptive of your mom. Here in Japan, there is a woman cooking expert who has single handedly reinvented all kinds of dishes to be cooked in the microwave. Even dishes that you would swear could never be done in the microwave, she has been able to do them. Basically she is just interested in microwave cooking but it is a very safe kind of cooking for the elderly. Especially along with other services like meals on wheels.

I can't imagine taking this on. Even with an entire sanitizing team working on it. I would feel so defeated that no matter how much cleaning, there's more and more to do and then all over again because of the shear volume of pest waste on every surface and unreachable places. You're amazing for tackling this. It must've been exhausting.

She said that assistants won't come because of the state of the home..but now that it will be clean ..the assistants will be available to her. No reason to put her in a home for help.

It’s infested with roaches. She obviously can’t function safely. She needs to be placed in a nursing home. Having an aide come in once a day won’t be enough.they would also need a cleaning person.

I have a new respect for the physical part of what you do. I helped my friend clean her place after a plumbing accident earlier this week. I worked for about 8 hours. I was SO tired and sore that i had to take the next day off from work. I'm still recovering three days later!

Steamer is so satisfying! Please try to get a garden pump sprayer. You can mix the Lysol (or cleaning solution of your choice) in it and cover more area and not have to use small bottles of solution. Note you can use bleach in a garden sprayer too just make sure you get one labeled for bleach use. This will help when you have large areas to clean quicker.

So much to do in that small apartment, I wish I could afford to get you a bigger steam cleaner, they are great powerhouses when cleaning. You are appreciated, and it helps to spread the word about elderly people living alone with limits. I feel at this point you are cleaning for the landlord because this lady can not come home until it has been fumigated and she also has no furniture and other stuff bedding towels etc all is going to take time for repairs and getting stuff for her to live comfortably. The lady will most probably end up in a care home for her own safety care in the community can only do so much and if she is a fire risk then shes putting other lives at risk in the uk this would be an emergency safe guarding issue and wuld have multiple people overseeing her case to do what is best for her. You have done a wonderful job bless you x

This is really one of the saddest apts I have seen. She’s going to need weekly extermination for a months and then professional monthly extermination indefinitely . At least Barbie got it clean enough to allow a professional exterminator to address the roaches 😩 Barbie’s cleaning this apt is a priceless gift for the resident and the owner. I suspect this is a government housing facility, based on the brown cabinets. Barbie really is a gift.

I have heard you mention not liking to have to wear a full suit like that because of heat, etc. I am so sad for that lady to evidently been living alone in a condition for which she needs constant care and supervision. I know that because I have been a caregiver for a dementia patient. My own beloved husband 💕. The very thought of him ever being alone in such conditions makes me want to cry. God bless you for doing this very challenging job and making necessary recommendations, etc for this dear lady.❤

🇬🇧❤️ Wow Barbie, 😇 aye watch your videos, & then I get up & clean, I've just got up & taken my curtains down in my living room, put them in the washing machine, will hang them out in the morning, I've washed all my down stairs windows with hot soapy water, sprayed disinfectant around the window sills & skirting boards, & then washed all of them, tomorrow I'm going to wash all my living room walls down, I've already sprayed them down with disinfectant, will wash off with hot soapy water, then paint I think. People with dementia get very mean and people back away from helping them. My relative had it and turned from an angel to mean. My neighbour now has it and she gets.. Awful. I feel so bad for her, she cant help it. She's lucky to have you there, Miss. 💗 Your work is incredible!

Помню каа одна бывшая,соседка ( теперь уже умерла ) решила свести счеты с жизнью и включила 4 комфорки газ. Слава Богу ,что пришла ее дочь ,онс спасла наши жизни ( Бог ее руками сохрарил наши жизни). Мы потом узнали что она собиралась сделать . Она жила на 1м этаже ,а мы на 4м ,всем бы хватило если бы газ взорвался . Слава Богу за Бога ,Он сохранил нас ! This poor lady with dementia should be in an assisted living home. The level of filth and the fire damage you mentioned means she is a danger to herself and those around her. My heart goes out to her. With backed up drains & damage you mentioned to hers & other units I have to ask where the heck are the apartment managers? They could have nipped this in thee bud. I know there are legal protections for those with mental health issues, but this clearly has crossed that line. Thank you for tackling this mess and I really hope she gets the help she needs. I feel bad for her neighbors. They are living with rodents and roaches because our culture (U.S.) does not have realistic and effective mechanisms to care properly for the mentally ill. Illusionary mechanisms and illusionary system are all round us. This woman is incapable to live in an apartment alone. It is obvious. As you can see no real authority to help rectify the infestation and help the neighbors suffering with the rodents, roaches. All are left to suffer.

@@kassie4426 I agree. As a health care worker we would have filed an "elder at risk" and had this person removed from the situation. Elderly/disabled apartments are supposed to be inspected on a regular basis so I wonder how this was let to get this bad. Also, where is the family? Are there no family to check in on her? Just a sad situation all around. Several apartments have to be infested with roaches from this. It does sound like property management is not blameless in this.

If there really was no one to help this woman then that is heartbreaking. I didn't know that apartments that are occupied by disabled and elderly people are supposed to be inspected regularly... That makes me even angrier with property management. Don't get me wrong, part of me does feel sorry for the landlord because his property was destroyed, but this could have been avoided. This apartment didn't start looking like this overnight, this is years and years of neglect. It baffles me how some landlords can't be bothered to inspect their properties. So no, property management isn't blameless. It really is unfortunate for the neighbors because yeah there's no way that they aren't also infested. Hopefully the property management steps up and has an exterminator come in. Very sad for everyone involved. Hopefully she can get a live-in Nurse so that she doesn't have to go to a nursing home.

@@miminana-hd6nf I don't know about NYC laws, but in Chicago, only low-income or designated elderly rental apartments get inspected on a regular basis. If this unit does not fit that criteria, i.e. if it's not designated elderly, then it would be up to the landlord when and if they would inspect. Many people have absolutely no friends or family that cares about them.

Hi Barbie Use 1/2 cup peroxide in 1 gallon of water to sanitize the house. My friend works in the hospital on the heart floor and they use it to disinfect the rooms and beds because they can't use bleach around the patients.

You did an extremely good job. The idea is to allow exterminators and/or maintenance workers to enter the apartment/house with no problem. A person not expecting the hoard and mice/roaches would not go near such an environment. I thought you did an amazing job on the stove top and surrounding counters. That fridge - kudos.🙌

I love how that steamer just melted the crud and dirt off the wall. The cabinets, at first glance, looked like a lost cause but they cleaned up fairly good. I’ll bet that kitchen has never looked better until you cleaned it. I hope the landlord will at least paint the entire place.
