57 seconds in from the viewers point of view on the left side there is a gentleman serving as a deacon wearing a Bishop's cassock but he doesn't have an alb or even a surplus on yet he's wearing a dalmatic and a amice could anyone explain the reason for that

In the extraordinary form, if there is no subdeacons or deacons available, a priest can wear the tunic or dalmatic and serve as a subdeacon or deacon. The color of the surplice means he is one of many ranks titled "monsignor" (or perhaps an actual bishop). In a solemn pontifical mass, the bishop has two deacons at the throne to assist him, vested in dalmatics. They do not serve at the altar, so they do not wear the alb. Normally they will wear a surplice, which is missing here for some reason. @@chrisnguyen1186 no I understand that much it was the fact that he's not wearing an alb or a surplus or a cotta yet he's wearing amice that I did not understand but it doesn't make sense for him to wear a delmatic either without wearing a surplus or a ALB or a cotta I'm fully aware of the rituals of the extraordinary and how everyone is supposed to be dressed I'm not new to the extraordinary form

In the Pontifical mass, there are the Deacon and Subdeacon of the mass, as in other Solemn Masses, but there are also the two Deacons of the Throne. These basically are the bishops attendants. They typically vest in cassock, surplice, amice, and Dalmatic. I have no clue why he’s not wearing a surplice, but that’s why he’s not wearing the alb (he’s not serving as one of the sacred ministers of the Mass proper, but rather an attendant of the Bishop.)

@@chrisnguyen1186 having been at this Mass personally, the Deacons of the Throne both wore surplices during the procession in and out of Mass so they clearly had them, therefore I must presume there was a good reason they deliberately didn't for Mass
