The 70th announcement surprised me a bit. I assumed they’d skip that and just celebrate the 75th instead. I hope they go big in 2030.

@piratekd17 сағат бұрын
This is the answer. 70th is limited because they couldn’t ignore it. 75th is a bigger milestone, so they’re saving the big stuff for that one.

@ I hope you’re right. I wonder if this era of Disney means that anniversaries are just schemes to sell merch now. We’ll see though, the 70th and 75th are the first major post COVID celebrations so this is the test imo.

I was actually there in the parks for WDW's 25th anniversary. It was my first (and only) trip to Orlando, I was only 7 years old and I thought it was cute, fun, and whimsical and was honestly surprised when I was told a few months after the trip, that the birthday cake overlay was just a temporary thing! I guess you have to put yourself in the perspective of a a seven year old to suspend your disbelief and simply enjoy it for what it is, because now, in my thirties, looking back I can see why it attracted so much scorn and hatred.

I just don't think you can compare the 50th to the 70th. Generally, each 25 years is a big anniversary celebration, so at the 75th you can expect something bigger, but 70th is just a small celebration.

Honestly Disneyland has not been the same for years. I was an annual pass holder for over 10 years and this is the first year that our family did not renew. Everything in the park has declined, food, attractions, maintenance, cleanliness, employees can be hit or miss, some are nice and others are rude. To top it all off, these Magic Key prices are out of control now. The price is not really the problem but what you get from it now is just sad. The magic is just gone for me, and sadly I'm suspecting that I'm not the only one feeling like this.

I'm a bit more concerned that no Disneyland ride announcements have been made for the 75th. Decades are important, quarter centuries doubly so. It takes time to build an attraction. We have some DCA that could open around that time, but nothing in the original park?

I went to Disneyland's 50th for my graduation present and it was the best time. Fireworks are still my favorite and make me cry. I think the fact we've lost so many people who were there on opening day that the magic is slipping away. I was there on the 60th when Richard Sherman played the piano. They need to remember what made the parks so special and try to capitalize on that again; castmembers and entertainment. Stop cutting live entertainment and the magic will return. This only kinda makes sense but I stand by it.
@tobicito1620 сағат бұрын
my guess is that they’re holding back now, then saving it all for 2030. all the stuff they announced at D23 is going to be open by then and they could push that along with a huge celebration for the 75th

I think the overarching point of the 70th is that the park is finally in a pretty good operational state, where everything is basically open. No major construction closures. They've also done a lot more work over the last few years than may be realized. A lot of paths were widened, curbs reduced, etc. Special stuff is always welcome, but it's gotta be nice to have a year to go to the park and not be sad that something isn't going to be running during your trip. (Aside from breakdowns of course)

We need to give Burbank a break. Everybody has been complaining lately about daily maintenance budgets being slashed with rides and other attractions being maintained poorly and so forth. YES!,...Burbank NEEDS to keep costs as rock-bottom low as possible...and...keep prices as high as possible to balance it's books today. It's simple profit & loss math. We need to cut them some slack and ride this out with them. Disney has promised us "60 billion" in experience spending just down the road. Soon the calvary will come and classic Disney QUALITY will return to normal and we will have spectacular new stuff to enjoy. We just need to hold on a bit longer and everything will be perfectly OK again. Have some hope and patience folks. Please?
@TodReynard4321 сағат бұрын
I think you’re giving them a lot of credit - too much, even. Slashing budgets, underpaying employees, cutting virtually all live entertainment, and bulldozing areas that are quiet and shady - what reasons are they giving to make people want to keep coming back. This “60 billion dollars” to expand is a slap in the face to their own cast members, and means nothing when they are already struggling to take care of areas that already exist.
@CLIFFLIX20 сағат бұрын
@@TodReynard43 - I know things ARE bad at the moment. Burbank is losing money in other divisions so badly that they need to lean on parks profits to help them float. Parks are a financial life-raft for Burbank's VERY bad business decisions in the past ten years. This means that they need every single PENNY of cash drawn OUT of the parks today to float everything else. Iger spent 15+ billion to get Disney+ started and it has now made it's first dollar in profit. They can now start recovering that 15 billion investment in 10-20 years. Yes,..I know,.. 70 billion for Fox and another 9+ billion for HULU. That's a bad situation Burbank is in "today". However,...the studios will be better next year. They have big blockbusters in "Snow White" and "Captain America 4" on the way to get some big box office number returns for Burbank. The 60 billion that Burbank promised us and Josh's excellent D23 announcements are sure to turn things around. Good things are coming. We just need to hold on and weather this storm of daily operations budget cuts and high prices. The future is bright. Don't worry,...Josh D'Amaro and Bob Iger are VERY clear about that. Don't lose hope. Burbank knows their mistakes of the past and they are working hard to fix them. They just the fans to be patient.

You know they care more about Disneyland than Walt Disney World. The fact that Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom only have 9 and 8 rides after 20+ years is insane. The upkeep and ride refreshes are always happening in DL…not so much in WDW. I think you can’t put too much into what they’re doing with the 70th because it isn’t going to be as big a deal as the 75th anniversary. Now, if they don’t do something huge in 2030 for Disneyland, I’d be surprised and mad.

To be honest, it would be great if Disney did more; however, Disney is so big that they pretty much forgot what they are. Kind of like the Hallmark movie Bottled Up of Love. Basically a company that was originally a farming business became an office job media space that it cause the son to travel. It wasn’t until they found someone that had what they used to be was pretty much accepted. So, Disney could make stuff and that’s fine and dandy but if they do it has to be from the heart not by selling to buyers who never loved them in the first place or by introducing a concept that confuses the guests and the people that love the story of what it is or was. Sometimes I wonder if Disney does make something it has to be something interesting full of heart that gives fans and audiences what they love. Sure, money can be profitable and expensive, but neither of them explain why people buy products or don’t buy products. The answer is simple the heart is where the magic is and if they don’t show heart then the majority of people wouldn’t believe it could be successful because people know when they don’t have heart. They will know the truth soon, but anyone of us fans can actually help them get their inspiration back but knowing the people who take it too far there’s a better chance of taking a picture of Bigfoot than for them to trust fans.

I want some Disneyland 70th merch. A T-shirt or a plush or a pin or something to commemorate the event. I have no plans to visit California, however. I'll be buying my merch off of Shop Disney, or more likely eBay, because Disney's merch site never sells anything from the parks that is worth buying. I have an awesome WDW 50th T-shirt, but I was there in Florida and bought it from the Emporium in Magic Kingdom. If I can make a quick comment regarding the Harmonious show at Epcot. You mentioned it, and I still have a stomach ulcer from that POS. I admit ... I NEVER saw the nighttime show. I looked at those gigantic barges sitting in the middle of World Showcase Lagoon, destroying the view across the water, completely ruining every attempt at a photo op, and thought that I just did not care what the evening show was like. Those barges, sitting there in broad daylight, completely f-ing up my trip, wasn't worth it. There was supposed to be some kind water display during the day, which MIGHT have been OK, but it was never operating when I visited. The barges made World Showcase Lagoon look like someone dumped a bunch of garbage in the middle of the night. I HATED that, and just stopped going to Epcot after that. Then they tore everything down to rebuild the park, and, as a result, I haven't been to Epcot in many years.

The Walt Disney animatronic show is just so vulgar and weird to me. He hated being associated with the “Uncle Walt” persona, both he and his family said he would never want anything like this - it’s like Walt Disney himself is just another Disney character. It feels so manipulative, shallow, and corporate to push for something like this for no reason other than to exploit the weird parasocial relationship that Disney adults have with their idea of this person.
