I have a wide variety of denominational and theological perspectives in my Logos Library.I think it’s important to read widely to understand other perspectives in order to be able to talk with others, to be able to show you are not just dismissing their view but have respectfully taken the time to know where they are coming from even if in the end you don’t agree. And I think it helps take your own beliefs and theology from something that just is because that’s what you’ve always been taught to something you have thought through and have a examined yourself and have a biblical basis for holding to that view that goes beyond a shopping list of proof texting verses.

I’m currently reading through Matthew Henry’s commentary of the Bible and it’s absolutely incredible! I have the old unabridged six volume edition and I’m at the very middle with the first volume. For the longest time, these volumes just stayed on my shelf, collecting dust, and I only consulted them when I came across a passage or a parable that I didn’t understand right away. There’s a lot of hidden treasure found in these pages. Reading Matthew Henry is like eating a feast of the best food and It really saddens me to hear of these young preachers dismissing him as “not scholarly enough.” I once recommended him to one of these guys and he immediately began criticizing his work because he didn’t have access to what we have today or something like that. I just stood there stunned and marveled. I also think it’s pretty cool that I’m actually reading the very material that both formed and shaped the minds of the great preachers of the past (George Whitfield and Charles Spurgeon). They both studied and prayed over his works.

So many books, Have you read part of all of them? I used to have a physical book collection, and to be honest I prefer physical books, but lately I have forced myself to go fully electronic. Although its not quite as pleasant to read from an electronic book, I have to admit its nice to be able to search, copy and paste, and have these ebook, things all on my phone accessible whenever I need them. (Also, where I live its also not rare for a book to get slightly dusty and mouldy)
