When he does these interviews, the producers tell the guest that the presenter (Alli G) is going to be talking to them at a 'streeet' language level / down with the kids / gangsta, disadvantaged background etc etc because the program is aimed at people like him, and so the expectation is set that he will be child like with some of the questions, but tthey wanted someone from the the same background as those they are aiming the program for...Which is a genius premise, and that's why people sit through really absurd shit where most the time if someone went from normal to behaving like Alli G they'd all walk off

The best bit I have seen when "Ali G" interviewed members of the clergy and Ali G asked them if Homo Sapiens should be allowed to marry! How Sacha Baron Cohen kept a poker face is beyond me.

so if i remember right when they got people in on the show to talk about things or be interviewed they were not told it was a comedy show and that Ali G was just a character, some interviews you can see the person he is talking to get genuinely angry at Ali G and Sasha still didnt break character and tell them what was happening until after the interview was over, i think the director said there were a couple of times where he was worried that things would get violent.
