Willie caught that in the '54 World Series against the Indians. Center field at the Polo Grounds was 490 ft.

That is #1 not least for the fact that single catch condemned the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians) to 30+ years of futility...
@christophermckinney39249 ай бұрын
What made Willie Mays cath h so good was the polo grounds in New York had a centerfield wall that was 465 feet from home plate. He had to track it and get to it with essentially unlimited real estate in front of him.
@debbiewashabaugh98919 ай бұрын
The Mays catch was iconic because he had to judge it with his back to it and make adjustments on the fly. Anyone who has tried it since has been compared to Willie. He set the bar so having him at #1 makes sense. I would have been disappointed if it was any other.

I believe Ken Griffey Sr. & Ken Griffey Jr. hit back to back home runs, too.

Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. might just be the greatest father and son duo to ever play the same professional sport on the same team at the same time. Both are in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame together. Senior was a little before my time, but Junior was my second favorite player growing up behind Barry Bonds (his father Bobby Bonds was also an MLB player, but they never played together). It’s really an amazing and inspiring example of family achievement that you should react to on this channel.
@michaelsmith-iu1be9 ай бұрын
Sr. is not in the hall of fame. I grew up with the Big Red Machine, going to games regularly. I guess you can't put the whole team in HOF but I would have.

This video missed Otis Nixon's catch. It was an unbelievable catch. How this video missed this is beyond me. A must watch.
@danielquinn49419 ай бұрын
These are great but only a couple should even be considered top 10. These just happened to be in big games. You could watch just a griffey Jr highlight reel and see better than these. No worries tho. Just a thought.
@shuddle329 ай бұрын
The amount of ground that mays made up on that catch is insane you can’t even see how far he had to run on the video plus the catch was a hard style of catch and if I’m not mistaken the throw held the runner from reaching home
@Timmycoo9 ай бұрын
Yeah the angle doesn't show how deep the CF is. Plus it's hard to appreciate an over-the-shoulder catch, when practically blind to the ball for the last second when watching it on a clip.

Yes...the Edmonds catch laying out stright to center field is the best catch ive ever seen. Nobody has caught one like that before or since

Jeter's last at bat getting a walk off hit was such an appropriate ending to his amazing career. I don't remember his face looking so busted on that catch that was in this vid but the multiple replays definitely showed he took a header.

Unfathomable overrated. Dude ran 20 feet after making the catch so he could dive into the stands.

I knew Willie Mays would be number one, but how could they leave out Kirby Puckett saving the world series in game 6 1991? The Jeter catch was nice but he just tumbled into the seats with momentum, that doesn't even crack the top 50.

How the heck did Ken Griffey Jr not make this list with all his circus catches in center field? Yes, the one they showed was special because it was against his own dad but the man literally sacrificed his body out there game after game and not one shows up on this list? Shame...

I'm not a huge fan of this list. The Jim Edmonds catch wasn't even the best of his career, and the David Wright barehanded catch not being on here is terrible

The exclusion of the Kenny Lofton wall climb catch makes this list invalid, and the inclusion of the overrated Jeter catch makes this list a joke.
@gregcable32509 ай бұрын
These are obviously very good, but this is one person's subjective list. One could easily come up with 10 such lists or more. Hell, I could come up with a list of 10 by Roberto Clemente alone. So these are by no means the greatest catches in MLB history--the title is clickbait.
@13.9 ай бұрын
The Jeter "dive" is the most overrated play in the history of baseball. There is no single play that has been as overhyped as that.
@vct4549 ай бұрын
It's funny how losing track of his footing somehow makes that play "iconic". No player has ever had their legacy more inflated by playing for the Yankees. If he played his career with literally any other team nobody would even remember his name.
@Jdubayou9 ай бұрын
That Derek Jeter catch is one of the most overrated plays in sports history. There's catches made nearly every week in the MLB that are better than that.

@FuckYoutubeAndGoogle9 ай бұрын
This list is heavily biased towards the playoffs, most of these aren't even close to being top 10 all time. The Jim Edmonds catch that's in this list is only at most his own third best catch. Obviously, Ken Griffey Jrs catch is completely routine. Lmao, I really cannot understate how much i hate this list, the only catch that actually belongs on here is Willie Mays' catch.
