There's about 1800 players in the NFL getting paid.. 32 teams with a 55 man roster.. Every year, about a million kids play high school football .. About 150,000 play college football and only 1800 play in the NFL. It's a very exclusive club.

Here is something that most people don't know about their pay, etc. NFL players get a check each week. I worked for the official bank of the Indianapolis Colts for years. The players had their own bank branch at their practice facility near Eagle Creek. That's why no one ever sees a player at their local branch. They do all their banking there and can even get loans, investments, etc, there. And yes, many players took out loans for mortgages, cars, boats or whatever. Often, these players come out of college with terrible credit so they take out loans against their savings to improve their scores.
@coyotelong43495 күн бұрын
What they SHOULD do to build credit scores is apply for a prepaid balance credit card, put a small credit limit on it as a deposit (say $500), and then just pay it off in full regularly
@JamisonMunn2 күн бұрын
When you make a lot of money there is zero point to have a credit score.
@Out-Of-Service2 күн бұрын
@@JamisonMunn only true if you make tens of millions. Even if you make a million a year and don't use credit cards, your score can affect your home, auto and life insurance. Hell, Mark Zuckerberg took out a mortgage on his home. They need those tax writeoffs. Plus they can take their salary as stock so they don't pay income taxes. They borrow money against their real estate and stocks, then use that money to live off. They can write off the interest they pay too. Ever wonder why these rich actors, singers, athletes, CEO's all support the Democrats even when they are pushing "tax the rich"? The rich know how to get around these tax laws so they know it doesn't matter how much they raise the tax, they won't be paying it. The rich don't get pay checks so they don't pay income taxes. They get paid with assets that they can borrow against. The politicians know this too but it sounds good to get votes. It's all a scam. They only talk about income tax and not capital gains, because the politicians use these same schemes. Hence, nothing ever changes. The rich get richer and the poor are still poor and always will be. Knowledge is power.

My nephew was a great high school football player. He made the first team in his state. He went to a great D1 college but he had to stop playing his junior year due to concussions. Not many guys get rich from football.

Kittle has got to be one of the nicest, humble guys ever. Every interview he seems so genuine and down to earth. Probably his Iowa upbringing.

The signing bonus is the main thing to look for.. that money is given on day one, and you get to keep it no matter what happens.. The rest is based on performance and can be gone quickly..

Gotta love Kittle. One of the best characters in the league. And how he's so down to earth and roots for everyone in the game as well.

I'm fifty and have been watching American football since I was a kid. Back in the day, nobody talked about how much a player made. We knew they were making well, but nobody talked about it. Nobody knew. You didn't watch a game like you do today and see a player suck it up on the field and start bitching about how much he was getting paid. They just had a bad game. However, we are all responsible for the vast amounts these guys are getting paid. And good to them. Get what you can get. Because the universe doesn't care.

I like how they avoid taxes as if their future does not include being broke. Taxes arent their enemy. Their main enemy is ignorance. Look up adrian peterson.

Watching Bob Sanders, Sean Taylor (RIP), Ed Reed, and Troy Polamalu play the safety positions was a thing of beauty in the mid 00s. No doubt these players are HOF talented players from their era.

The SF 49ers play and practice in Santa Clara. Which is at least 45 minutes south of SF. Im pretty sure most players live in or around Santa Clara and not in SF.

when he says "gettin paid" he doesn't mean actually getting money into your bank account.. he's talking about going from $ to $$$

Kittle’s 2020 contract was $30M guaranteed with an $18M signing bonus, with potential to earn an additional $27 over five years. He recently restructured that deal, but his contract still expires in 2025. It will be interesting to see what his new deal will be.

To be clear, when Kittle says "get paid", he's talking about the serious rock star money that many people falsely believe all NFL players earn. Most NFL players earn near the negotiated league minimum. Granted, it's still a wage wage which most would find lucrative. But, contracts rarely hold any guarantees. Careers are brief. Agents and taxes take half off the top. Add to that, everyone the player has ever known has their hand out - not all players are able to say no. And finally, while the league does provide some financial counseling, not everyone heeds that advice. Many NFL players are penniless when the league is done with them.
@michaelb.39829 күн бұрын
League minium is a million now.. IF they handle their money correctly they can be set for life after two seasons. .. true,most don't do that,but that's not the NFL's fault..
@kentgrady92269 күн бұрын
@@michaelb.3982 A million bucks clear (assuming they keep net half after taxes and agent's fees), minus living expenses for two years. An exceptionally frugal person might save eighty per cent, assuming he buys a modest car and lives in an affordable apartment. Most do not. I know I would not have been so disciplined at age 22. So, best case, that's $800k after two years. Hardly enough to be set for life, although I freely admit, it's a nice start in life. Most young people aren't so savvy or wise. The point isn't whether one should feel sorry for people who waste financial opportunities and burn through money irresponsibly. It is rather, that those opportunities aren't nearly as lucrative as many believe them to be, and they are far from guarantees of a life on Easy Street.

Players have a home where they play and usually a home where they spend the offseason. The taxes paid by each player in each state are also interesting. Some states have an income tax and some don't. But tehre is a federal income tax in all states. As a result a player may have 8 games with 8-12 games wit no income tax and 6 with. Or the opposite could be true. Also players who know they could see their taxes take a larger chunk of their income in some states may choose to accpet less to play in a state with a lower income tax rate and come out ahead.

1,696 players in the NFL, plus practice squad players. Even practice squad players make 12.5-21k a week depending on how long you've been in the league. You can make a GOOD living just being a practice squad player (which isn't easy). 15k a week for 17 weeks a year is 255k USD It's hard to make the NFL, it's NOT hard to get paid. Many players are just idiots with money and squander it early, thinking their career will last way longer than it usually does. If you make it to the NFL, I'd suggest not even buying a house until your 2nd contract.

Kittle lives in Nashville for tax reasons. No state income tax in Tennessee, while California has a huge state income tax. "Living" in Nashville would potentially shelter millions in extra income during his career in San Francisco. Lots of athletes live, on paper, in states like Florida, Tennessee and Texas because of the financial benefits.
@kentgrady92269 күн бұрын
Players still owe state income tax for every state in which they play. He still realizes a benefit from living there, but he gets dinged hard for every game he plays in the State of California (or New York, or Illinois, or Massachusetts, or Minnesota, etc). His real tax savings come from his endorsement contracts.
@Timmycoo9 күн бұрын
@@kentgrady9226 Was gonna say. A lot of players in the NHL who get big contracts from teams who have no income tax are usually taking them for exactly that, over other teams.
@MoeDavinci8 күн бұрын
Typically it goes: - College ball (hopeful to make it to the league) - Rookie deal (when you’re anywhere from 20-27ish depending on the player) - First big deal (can be done at anytime; but as Kittle mentioned after your 3-5th year you start earning the bigger contracts) - Second big deal (not as long as your first as the player is probably in the back end of their prime) - Veteran minimum or possible third deal (a cherry on top) All of this contingent on performance though. Also mentioned is that players average only 3 years in the league (which still blows my mind lol). Also the contracts all come with taxes and agents/lawyers etc. Still a nice payday to play the game you love.
