There is a lot of prior basketball knowledge that is needed for context in some of these clips. Like derrick rose dropping 48 after having to go through so many injuries, Lebron doing a dunk replicating Kobe after he passed away, and Trae Young bowing to the fans after being trash talked by the New York fans like crazy the whole series. This is a great video, but some of the less exciting clips usually have more context behind them. (Also, the last 4 mvps were won by 2 European players, and there are many great basketball players from around the world, especially recently. The popularity of basketball is going very fast)

Nikola Jokic (Serbia) is MVP for last 2 seasons, and leading candidate for this one, before that Giannis Antetokounmpo (Greece) won MVP 2 years in a row. Doncic (Slovenia) and Embiid (Cameron/France) are in top 5, so 4/5 are international players.

So, with the shot clock. You need at minimum 0.3 seconds to get a shot off. The moment the player touches the ball, the clock starts. 0.3 (in this case, 0.4) is just enough to touch the ball and tip it or release the ball. It has to have left the players hand completely by the time the clock buzzes, or it's called off. It doesn't matter if they're gathering or in the air, the ball has to be out of their hands.

2:28 Ice Skater vs Runner. Skater would be faster due to them taking off with the skates at a 45 degree angle to the ice which the edge of the blade will dig into the ice and when it comes to stopping, you rotate you body to the side, lean back and dig the blades into the ice. When you do that you can spray the ice as high as 6 feet.

Not in a million years is Daz going to outrun someone on hockey skates. He might get a 10-foot jump, but hockey players can get to top speed way faster than you think and they can stop faster as well. Connor McDavid, of the Edmonton Oilers, has been clocked at 40mph. Usain Bolt's top speed is 28mph.

When Steph Curry broke Ray Allen’s career 3-pointer record, he did it in less than 800 games, while it took Allen 1,300 games to hit that mark. Curry will likely end up with over 4,000 3-pointers made by the time he retires (he’s at 3,302 as of today). James Harden is currently 3rd all time with over 2,700 made, he might break 3,000 before he retires. Curry is likely to have that record for a generation at least. (As in no active player as of today is likely to pass him).

For anyone confused about the first clip. It's an unwritten rule in the NBA that when one team is up by that much with only a shot clock or less left in the game that you hold the ball until time runs out. Zion went in for a showboat dunk when everyone else was following the unwritten rule. That is why you hear the announcer say "no, no, no" Its unsportsmanlike conduct that 99% of players look down on, and considered very disrespectful.
@ihateintroductions5808
@ihateintroductions5808 Жыл бұрын
It broke the Internet which is why it's on this compilation. Maybe you found it disrespectful but if you're a Pelican fan probably not. Also Nance threw him the outlet pass ... that's a little extra assist for his mans.
@ΒΞΔΝ
@ΒΞΔΝ Жыл бұрын
@@ihateintroductions5808 That is the point, and it's not me making it up. It's an unwritten rule since the NBA inception. When one team no longer has a chance to win and less than 24secs you don't score. Did you notice the defending team just standing around? That is because 99% of players follow the rule. As I stated that is why one announcer says "no no no" and the other says "I know you didn't like it" It "broke the internet" because it brought up the debate for a week all over again on every sports show. If I was a pelicans fan I would think it's corny. Piling on stats when you know the other team isn't even playing anymore because everyone has the understanding that the game is over. Corny af....same as most new basketball fans.

I don’t like Harden, but on the clip where he seats the ball out of Derosan’s hands, he did the right thing. Derosan initiates contact attempting to draw a foul. Since he was in the act of shooting, that could have been an ‘And 1’ play. They give the player continuation, so he has a chance to score the basket AND get an additional free throw. Swiping the ball away negates that, and he would be awarded 2 free throw attempts. It’s a difference of 1 point, but it adds up over the course of a game. Once a foul has been called, you can’t pick up a second personal foul on the same play, so you might as well strip the ball, or wrap up the guy’s arms. You just don’t want to commit a flagrant foul after the fact, because the refs can go back and upgrade it from personal to flagrant.

3:25 for a 38 year old man to jump this high bruh. it makes no sense side note, it's harder than it looks to intentionally miss a free throw. it has to hit the rim or else no one can rebound it, backboard doesn't count. hitting the rim hard and direct enough to bounce back actually requires practice

So much less defense played, so many 3 pointers...just overall less dramatic greatness, no great, physical/mental battles etc. Nobody has to claw their way to the rim (if they even drive that deep).
