If you know you've got the law on your side, there's nothing to be afraid of. Especially when you take the approach he did where you ask, "If I do X, will you arrest me?" and then comply under duress. You don't have to actually get arrested to have a case; you just have to have the officer threaten arrest. That makes it pretty reasonably safe for you to get into one of these altercations, challenge the officer, and even file a lawsuit without having to worry about jail time.

Just a little update, as of May 2019 Officer Casey was terminated along with another officer for sitting at a desk and not stopping the other terminated officer from beating a handcuffed suspect in the jail. As of June 2019 Mr Rankin has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against both Mr Casey and the city of Pevely.

Defined as irrational fear of imaginary red lights, is usually followed by a psychotic break from reality, the sputtering of threats and a deep seated need to intimate others. With all of the commonsense options available in this scenario, why did this officer react like this to a perceived threat that a gun may have been pointing at him from across the road? Options: (After getting the "local celebrity drug dealer"out of harm's way) 1) call in additional units 2) ask for a SWAT detail 3) attained cover behind his vehicle and attempt to gain a better view of the gunmen 4) used the loud speaker on his radio to ask the gunmen to toss his weapon aside and lay down on the ground 5) wait for help to arrive 6) fire pre-emptive shots at the "gunmen" 7) violate someone's legal rights and make a complete ass of himself What are your thoughts?

Anything can be used as a weapon, so the officer is technically correct. And since a recording of a police officer doing something wrong can be a terrifying weapon to use against the officer involved, it's quite possible that the Pevely PD at this time felt that video recordings were particularly dangerous to them. Of course, if they just did their job properly, they'd have nothing to fear. But from this video, it seems that might be a bit too difficult for them.
