To be fair, it probably got scared of the man (past trauma?) and started showing signs of distress, + he was being kept in a small, confined and most importantly, unfamiliar space because SOMEONE decided to put that poor boy in a car. Not that its a bad thing to do, but most often then not dogs from the streets are unpredictable and its much better to just call someone to take care of the dog (re-homing etc)

There are some really gentle dogs that can put on a very convincing Cujo impression if they feel that they or those they care about are threatened. A scared Rottweiler in an enclosed space can easily persuade people to vacate said space with alacrity. I'm sure if one of those men reached a hand in this good boy would have "politely" told them to remove the hand or else he would remove it for them. Dogs don't have words, so they need to use what communication they do have and an urgent message needs to be delivered unambiguously.

he might've been because of the guy with the long scraper trying to "help". It's not uncommon for dogs to be aggressive with one gender or the other, because of either socialization or a history of abuse. Notably as a plumbers apprentice we ran into an issue one time with a female pitty that lived in a house with all women and hadn't been socialized around men that was very aggressive towards us when we were onsite for a repair. wasn't a bad dog, she was just protecting hers and her families space from weird strangers. Besides affectations and body language men and women also smell differently because of the hormones we produce so dogs can tell the difference just like they can detect drugs, explosives and now even cancer. Doggos are the amaze. Give much scritches to a doggo today.

I wont argue that he was vicious but a dog can change its behaviour quite a lot depending on how the people around are acting, if they were afraid when he was in the car with children screaming or whatever its very possible he was acting "viciously". The police was just cautious but clearly not afraid of him and he had some time to calm down in the car so what we saw might not be what the first family saw. Not the dogs fault though.

He is territorial towards cars. Probably learned from previous owner, you really can’t take any chances after any kind of dog shows distrust or minor aggression. Especially with kids in the car. Most people would not be exactly comfortable. Could have ended very badly if she was not so understanding. Could be vicious towards men or children. Maybe not in general but all dogs have triggers.

However, people who don't know dogs or might even be scared of them can't necessarily tell that. My mother is very much afraid of dogs despite having owned one. To her they are completely unpredictable creatures. When my anxious dog reacts to something strongly, she is always very scared even though she's one of the very few people my dog openly trusts and would never hurt and never directs at. We didn't see this dog's fear reaction towards the man - just the clear caution - but if all she sees is a dog jumping into her car and then giving even a small warning growl to the man, I can see her thinking it's dangerous to approach. Of course, she might have also embellished a bit to get the police to arrive fast.

@@tracyhaverstick5672 Well, actually there is no specific dog, it's a variety of things. So, no, you didn't live it. She has tried. She got a dog for us kids when we wanted one and my parents decided to keep that dog after I moved out because they will never have another dog, and the dog lived a long happy life with them. She likes dogs, she even petsits the other dogs in our family. Will doesn't really stop fobias or traumas, though.
@tracyhaverstick5672
@tracyhaverstick5672 3 жыл бұрын
@@bslizardette4669 Dogs are not unpredictable. Infact they give signs regularly. Experts constantly say that dogs, unlike humans move on from anxiety, trauma and all other problems 99 % of the time. It's humans that don't. Humans require more training than dogs. And I did live over coming a trauma, phobia and fear from a dog attack. The attack was my fault. I approached a dog (3/4 wolf, 1/4 husky) that was a dog for protection. I grabbed it around the neck and put my face in his. He could have killed me but he just bit my face and clawed my head. I loved animals. So I sought treatment to over come all the problems I developed. Just the fact you make excuses for holding on to an irrational fear shows you have little to no knowledge of dogs or other animals. You're doing yourself and others a diservice. Education is key. Yes, there are dogs that can be dangerous. Like a guard dog. But there are generally signs up and should be heeded. Those dogs are generally very disciplined and obedient. When humans are selfish and wreckless, it's not the dogs fault. It's the humans.

He was aggressive. But it was fear based aggression, not hostile aggression. Two very different things. But that doesn't mean a scared dog won't bite a stranger as a warning. Basically everybody freaking out likely made him feel endangered, so he was panicking and essentially telling Karen and her kids to back off and give him space. That's why he was so friendly to the officer after awhile, b/c they let him see that they don't intend to hurt him and he just went back to being the sweetheart he likely normally is.

When I was a teenager, my ex found an adult Rottweiler walking along the highway on a rainy night. He stopped and opened the door to the car and the dog jumped right in. He called me about the dog and I asked my mother if he can bring him over and she said yes. I had him for 3 months and I was in love with him. Everywhere I went so did he. We we bonded. He really was the sweetest and smartest dog I’ve ever had. I end up going on a trip to Puerto Rico and when I came back home he was gone. My mother had been on the other side of the city when she seen flyers posted for a missing Rottweiler (this is where my ex found him). So she called the lady up and the lady came over and confirmed indeed that he was hers and he confirmed it also with how excited he was to see her and she called him by his actual name that he’s had since he was a pup. She told my mother that I could visit him anytime I wanted. Turns out her then boyfriend at the time, took him without her knowledge and abandoned him in the streets. As sad as I was that he was gone, I was happy that he was back with his human that raised him.

Maybe he wouldn't follow through, but angry growls from an unknown dog should be respected. And yes, I am a trainer of many years. Having said that, I would not be afraid to approach a dog with the cues that I could see in this video. I would, however, do it slowly and respectfully. If he started growling, I might just sit there and "talk to the wind" for a while. I actually didn't see anything wrong with how this was handled by anyone. To be fair to her, she had kids in the back of the car and the dog hopped into the front then wouldn't get out. Once he showed any signs of aggression, even if fear-based, I don't blame her for not wanting to take any chances with kids around. I don't think the dog is vicious but I can see how she might panic and think that-- a combination of a lot of misinformation/misunderstanding about the breed themselves, their reputation, and general fear about an unknown variable (the dog's history, temperament, etc...), especially since she saw him display some sort of aggression/defensive behavior towards a man (with the pole...I doubt she was thinking "the dog thinks the man with the pole is threatening" but just saw him as either a friend (if she knows him) a good Samaritan trying to help her out(if she doesn't know him) and the strange dog being threatening, if even mildly, towards him). I don't think she was purposely trying to get the dog put down or anything--it was more a case of she was afraid of what the dog could do and since he had shown aggression, her mind instantly went to "vicious" which, the breed itself has an (undeserved) rep as.

In fact most would get a Rottie for a status symbol, to be seen as hard and don't mess with me, they will play fight with the Rottie when a pup with toys it tears open etc and when they get older... anything small to them is a toy and will go for it.

@@mcgeorgeofthejungle6204 With good training, even "vicious" dogs can be docile... Our neighbor just got a Rottweiler/Pitbull mix (kinda pup, like a year old now), and I think his training is doing well. Of course the dog STILL bites at you, not in aggressive way, but in an inspector/territorial way, sometimes even playful. But he doesn't realize how hard he's biting, so many times he's accidentally drawn blood just playing. With time, I expect he should be out of that phase as my neighbor has also gotten him teething toys/chews and many attempts to train to stop biting. Such a sweet pup though. Time and constant training can lead to great things with a dog.

I went through something similar. A man had a stroke outside a store where I was shopping. The paramedics wouldn’t go near his nine month old Rottie so I took the leash, gave it a tug and said “Knock it off.” to the dog. He sat by my side and wagged his tail so hard you couldn’t see it. Long story short, a case worker who was in the same store, found the man a apartment after he got out of rehab and I dog sat until he moved into his new apartment.

@@mattnsac It was probably more that the dog got scared since he kinda cornered himself in the cop’s car. He’s clearly more friendly towards women and scared/aggressive toward guys, but the only reason he got on guard was because she put her hand in his space. She didn’t say he was barking or biting, just on edge and showing distress in a way that you 100% don’t want a random dog since they’re more unpredictable. The dog only acted aggressive to the lady cop because she was a stranger that he was still kinda scared of. The dog didn’t trust her and understood that she could probably hurt him if she got too close. After she gave him lots of her sandwich and was around for awhile, he trusted her more and wasn’t as scared. Any dog would be “vicious” if trapped in an unfamiliar place with an unfamiliar person, right after some guy with a stick tried to physically remove it. The dog wasn’t so much “vicious” or aggressive as much as it was scared, cornered, and getting ready to defend itself if the strangers around him decided to attack.

@@mattnsac Also they kept the door shut and threw food because they’re not dumb and knew not to mess around with a strange scared dog? Regardless of his behavior, they didn’t know what shots he did or didn’t have (if any), and knew to be more careful than to just throw themselves into a stressed out dog’s space. Risking a bite by agitating a scared dog is dumb when having a bit of caution and diffusing the situation is much more effective. Plus they were pretty much just there to contain the dog till animal control could get there, so the 1st lady cop didn’t wanna make any moves to remove the dog till she had backup in case he decided to run. Oh Sheeeeet, I forgot about CNN. The Communist News Network would find this dog was a Trump supporter and have it put down hastily. Even if the dog doesn't like men, I can change that dog's mind ......... within 3 days.

Best crack those windows! My ex scared my dog off and he jumped into someone's car - they said he was real friendly until they shut the door and drove home - he never acted out but apparently he was visibly scared once they shut that door. If you find a dog, drive home with the windows half down and call the (hopefully loving) owner

Gotta love the lady who stops to “help” the dog that’s lost, scared and hungry out in the cold snow and then she freaks out when he jumps in the car and calls the cops because now he’s “vicious”. If I had to guess, I’d say the seemingly nice human who went from inviting him into her car to suddenly freaking out and screaming with her kids likely caused the poor dog so panic. When dogs panic, especially that size dog, it can come across as aggression if you don’t understand. But it’s not. If it were she wouldn’t have been able to make a phone call. He was in the front with her. If he was vicious she’d be injured. It’s stupid She could’ve caused way more harm than good by trying to be a “savior”. I can’t stand when people do shit like that. If you don’t know much about dogs, you have your children in the car, you scare easily and you have no course of action or plan set in place for saving dogs, than don’t stop for a friggin stray Rottweiler. You’ll end up being stupid, calling 911, and labeling an innocent dog (in this case one that is of an intimidating breed) as vicious and could easily cause serious confusion and consequences for that dog when you were problem all along. These social media save a dog video trends got everyone thinking it’s as simple as a “here puppy” to be the next doggy hero and feel good about yourself.

My guess would have been that she just wanted to take a pic, to then upload it on social media so her friends can see how she "helps" animals. And then got annoyed the dog wouldn't leave after the pic, so she called the cops

@lilscenechick1995 3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right. If the wrong cop showed up, and there's already confusion/misunderstanding of the dog's behavior, that dog could have been shot. Smh. She was wrong to call it "vicious". Very overly dramatic word choice. I think "stubborn" would have been more appropriate. Animal control would still be sent without lying/exaggerating the situation.

Same with my dog. He's 20% rottweiler, and he's the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. He never growls at anyone or barks. The only time I've ever heard him bark was when I was playing with him and getting him riled up, but other than that he never barks, not even at other animals or people. But this one time, I was taking him out for a walk, this weird guy came near me and he started growing at him. Scared the crud out of me cuz I didn't know what was going on, but he's never growled at anyone else since.
