I drooled watching this. I can not wait to get my hands on one of the 96A1. I love the classic models, but the upgrades they've made plus the fact that i can get it in .40 makes me want one so bad.

I bought the beretta 96 A1 about 3 months ago and put 500 rounds through with out a single problem. I have several other hand guns but I have to say the beretta 96 A1 is by far the one I trust the most use for it's safety and accuracy. I would recommend the pistol to anyone looking to buy a pistol.

I shot the M9 in the military and was issued a 92FS in the Police Academy 15+ years ago. Some of the military M9's weren't maintained very well and had issues, but my issued 92FS which I have been sole possession of has been a flawless pistol. Many thousands of rounds through it, including reloads and underpowered range ammo with no issues. I have since added another 92FS, a 92FS Inox, an M9A1, and two 92A1's. I am not a fan of the plastic mag release and guide rod, so those get swapped out just on personal preference. All of the above pistols are just boringly reliable and I'd carry any of them into harm's way without a doubt.

Ben, this is a very nice quick review of the new Beretta 92A1. I just have to get one of these soon! I've got an old 92S model that I bought new in 1981 and have quite a few rounds through it. My old eyes are starting to have trouble with those old sights and I'm looking forward to the new model and modern sights. Thanks for the nice review!

@Madison1911R1 Neos - Unfortunately, no. The Neos magazine release is only designed to be release by the trigger finger on the upper right side of the frame. 96A1 - The buffer in the 92/96A1 frame is actually aluminum.

Picked it up on the way home from work at my local shop. Called ahead because I get out after they close. They live next to the shop and said come on by. Wow. Inspected the gun.... Mmmmmmmmmm... Tasty. I'll test it this weekend. I don't find the double-action hard at all. Nice balance. Smooth pull.

@samfisherskiller If you are referring to the 40SW in white etched in the top portion of the barrel, this is something you can do to customize your gun. Simply take a white crayola crayon or a ceramic marker and paint it in! Ben likes his that way...

I just purchased a new 96a1 and I'm letting you know I'm taking it back. Thank god I got it from Scheels, they have a great return policy. Other wise my new pistol would have to get repaired. The problem is FTF the first round with bran-new ammo. The brass is catching on the 7oclock and 8oclock position, putting half moon marks right above the feed ramp before it enters the chamber. After removing the slide it is showing heavy wear on the left frame rail. Same side as the brass marks.

Thanks for the fast reply. I didn't buy a new gun to get it repaired. The problem is to many buyers and quality is dropping. This is not the first gun company to do this to me. I think I'll take it back, and wait till the end of the world is over, Lol. I have had more problems in the last 3years buying pistols that don't work. Ammo and limp wristing have been the blame on every pistol. That's why I went back to Beretta. I wish I never sold my 8045F or my 10year old 92fs:(

so how does the 96A1 hold up to the 40s&w with the new design? I love the 90 series beretta but I don't care for 9mm the 96a1 is my preference I was just concerned about durability. I owned a 96c years ago and sold it and wished I hadn't because they were discontinued until the 90-two came out then the a1 series. I'm really looking forward to your input on the durability /service life of the new beretta 96A1 thanks

They are not compatible: the 92A1 uses a captive spring assembly, while the 92 uses separate rod/spring. The buffer is polymer and it is user-replaceable.

I went with the Beretta 92A1 over the Glock 21 Gen. 4, it fits my hands and I was trained with them in the Marines. If weight is a factor or you have smaller hands look at the PX4 Storm or smaller glocks, either way your in GREAT hands.

I don't have a cam or I'd have shot a video. Maybe next time I'll photo the targets. I LIKE the weight this gun has. Steadies my aim, and I'm re-acquiring targets faster too. Now if I could only learn to pull the trigger with my finger pad instead of hooking my long narrow fingers around the trigger. They tell me that's why some of my groups are low and left. VERY easy to clean. Threw the blue cup away though. It was keeping the case from closing all the way actually making it bow in the center.

Nice to see they finally addressed the front sight issue (integral front sight on a modern service handgun? Seriously?) but they still refuse to offer a decock-only "G" style slide. Honestly, I'd just rather see the M9A1 frame (for holster options) mated to a 92A1 style slide with a G decocker instead of the manual safety. I'm by no means in the minority here, and with the current resurgences of DA/SA pistols in both defensive and competition applications, Beretta would really offer a sweet package, here.

Ok Ben, this is a great weapon as I know because I own one. The burning question is: Since you can beef this model up to handle a .40; when will this model be available in .45acp?
@BerettaCommunity11 жыл бұрын
It's a question we get often. The frame and tolerances do not allow to build this as a .45. We do have models like the Px4, available in .45 cal.

Hey there, if you had a choice would you get the M9A1 or the 92A1? I like the checkering on the M9A1 for a better grip, but then the 92A1 has a removable front sight. I do have a few questions though. I'm assuming the frame buffer is only on the 40 cal and not the 9mm 92A1s? Also why are the rails slightly different b/w the M9A1 and 92A1. There's like two notches on the rail of the 92A1 and only one small notch on the M9A1 model. No preference, just curious. Thanks!

Pinscher: I bought a 92A1 two weeks ago and took it for a test drive on Friday at the range and had the exact same problem you described: same marking on the brass. This was with PMC Bronze ammo after only 150 rounds. I had to leave the range. I'm totally disappointed but unfortunately I ordered the pistol online and that retailer doesn't accept returns. So I have no choice but to sell it "used" for half the price I bought it for. Shoulda stuck to Glock!

btw, any tips on dealing with the slide-mounted safety/decocker would be great. This has slowed me down during IDPA competitions, and I'm leaning more toward Glock since it eliminates that step at the range. On the up-side, I've heard of an officer's life being saved when a criminal got his duty Px4 but didn't know how to take the safety off. . .

Awaiting delivery of my 92A1 in the next few days. Blame my brother for getting me into hanguns. I'm 51y/o (too old for this crap...lol). My brother has a 92 compact and I loved the feel of it, even though many say it's just so heavy. I kinda like that as far as recoil control and therefore accuracy. I chose this over a PX4 Storm. My brother has the PX4 in 40cal. I like the 92A1 because of the upgrades, particularly the breakdown/reassembly slide feature and the adjustable/replaceable sights.

Considering I have never shot anything larger than a .22 I think I did pretty good. I went through 500 rounds and didn't really want to stop! Using MagTech 115 grain and American Eagle 147 grain I am pretty happy with myself. I practiced a lot at 25yrds and never missed the 8" shoot-n-See Target, single and double-hand grip. 7yrds was amazing. I shot a full 17 round clip, obliterated the bullseye, and the grouping was at best the size of a silver dollar - right-handed! Adjustable sights? WHY?!

I bought the S/W Sigma .40cal; I was the RSO for 12 yrs. and thought as long as I have the basics, the gun didn't matter; I was dead wrong. I couldn’t get the weapon on paper at the 25 yd line and I'm an Expert Marksman on pistol and rifle. I’m going back to what I know. My question is the ranges and accuracy of the 92A1 & 96A1? Is the 40cal as accurate on the 25 yd line as the 9mm? I've used the 9mm in the military but want the 40cal w/out giving up performance. How about firing grouping pics?

How does the M9A3 compare to the 92A1 as far as a "thicker" frame or frame size & does the M9A3 have the buffer the 92A1 has. I have been told the 92A1 is more of a bit scaled down 96A1 that shot the .40 cal thats why the buffer is there even though its not needed in the 9mm. Does the M9A3 have these beefier options to the frame ? Also with the fat traditional grip on it does it feel "just like" the traditional grip as one piece or do you feel a "transition" from the frame to the actual grip?
