He wrote the entire guitar for the song, which is what makes the song what it is. Don Felder is responsible for a massive amount of their success.

Timothy and Joe, just nod your head and smile, and you'll still get paid. Let the "experts" do all the talking. Joe stole the show at their recent concert and received the most applause. Timothy received very warm applause from the audience...then Glenn manages to take a shot at him by saying that "We refer to that song as Love Will Keep Us Awake" (being sarcastic b/c it was a slow song). Audience really liked Timothy and his songs/contributions. Check out Joe on "Guitar Center Sessions" A++

I’ve always loved the Eagles and I know it wasn’t always great all the time! Still, I think they are the greatest band ever including the Beatles! I think it was terrible that they fired Don Felder, but it was their business! I still think Glenn’s passing was the most shocking event to effect the band, but the fact that Glenn’s son filling his place is very appropriate! I hope they continue to make great music for many years to come! Glenn truly is flying like an Eagle!!!

Love Donny Felder as much as the next guy. Amazing guitar player and wrote the Hotel California masterpiece. Even still, this band was gonna be huge with or without him. Glen, Don, Joe, Tim, Randy, Bernie are/were ALL great songwriters and made this the greatest supergroup ever assembled. Take it easy, tequila sunrise, desperado, lyin eyes, take it to the limit, new kid in town, life in the fast lane, one of these nights, witchy woman...just a few of many which had nothing to do with Felder.

The Eagles is my favorite group of all time and classic rock artists. Their songs improved my life and made growing up in the 70's and 80's more fun. That said, Glenn Frey is the Nick Saban of rock and roll. A genius, but a real sour puss with a huge ego who makes it very difficult to like him despite your best efforts. Not having Randy Meisner and Don Felder in the Eagles just leaves you with that empty feeling.

Amen Brother! I'm a huge Eagle's fan but the way they ____ on Felder was criminal. Henley and Frey, while talented are 2 of the biggest ___ in Rock. Read Felder's book about them, he won the law suit..... I've seen the Eagles numerous times with Walsh and Felder, Don was a monster on guitar. The band had a huge amount of talent but a lot of years wasted and the double CD was a huge pile of _____. Not even close to the old glory days.

Look at the facts, Glenn Frey and Don Henley wrote and produced all of the major songs that really made the Eagles. They even further proved their capabilities with their solo careers. They worked together to produce the lyrics, the melodies, and the overall songwriting. At the Rock and Roll HOF, Felder even thanked them for "writing all those songs". He was an amazing guitar player, dont get me wrong, but What has Felder done since then musically?

Don Felder wrote the following chord progression: Bm, F# Maj., A, E, G, D, Em, F#. And he came up with his own guitar solo (you don't "write" a guitar solo the same way you "write" a song). Frey & Henley wrote everything else: melody, lyrics, title, chords on the chorus (which are different), harmonies. Is that clear enough for you?

You need to do a little research. Felder wrote the baseline and played the solo on "One of these Nights." It is also hard to contribute to Witchy Woman, Take it Easy, Desperado, and Tequila Sunrise since he was not even in the band at the time. If you are going to make and argument, please make an informed one.

I'm also a musician. And I'm NOT trying to discredit Felder. He wrote the verse chords & the solo. Exactly. And can you copyright or publish a guitar solo? What we can agree on is that his solo IS brilliant & the duet with Walsh is incredible. Felder's a great guitarist but neither of us would probably ever have heard of him if he hadn't been in a band with two of the greatest songwriters in rock history. So there!! (ha ha) Peace.

No, legally he owned 33% of the Eagles shares. leadon and Meisner quit forfeiting their shares. He had legal right to his shares, which is why they settled with him in his lawsuit. Settling is an act of admitting defeat and knowing you will lose in court. facts are facts.

All I know is that I loved Eagles' music from before when Don Felder joined the band. He seems to be a really nice guy, and a great guitarist, and the band is certainly diminished by his absence. But the idea that the Eagles would have been nothing without him is, I humbly submit, nonsense.

My dear, you are trying to discredit Felder's involvement in the song. He wrote the chords and solo. Btw, to make a solo as brilliant as Hotel California, you have to write something down for memory or record it. I guarantee you that Felder didn't simply wing that part of the song. I know this because I've been a guitarist for over 25 years and consider that piece to be one of the greatest solos EVER. His involvement is what made that song the best song ever of the eagles.

It's interesting to me how many people love to hate on Henley and Frey. They will still go down in history as one of the best (it not the best) songwriting duos in American music history. And none of their success was handed to them. It seems to me that Don Felder enjoys playing the "injured party," the righteous musician whose creative genius was stifled by those evil, greedy authoritarian dickheads played by Henley and Frey. That script just seems a little too self-serving and a little too pat for my taste. I just don't buy it. Timothy and Joe both seem like really decent guys, and I just can't see them hanging with Glen and Don if they were always assholes. IMO.

If Don Felder was so great, why didn't he have a successful solo career? His two solo albums Airborne (1983) Road to Forever (2012) had one very minor hit. Although he worked with several successful musicians, one would think that if he had a such a great voice and writing skills, something would of came out of it. On the other hand, Don Henley, Glen Fry, and Joe Walsh had great solo careers with many hits. Although Felder was a great guitar player, it was Joe Walsh that pulled them from leaning toward the country sound and made them more of the rock band that they became with his incredible playing and style. I am sure that Henley and Frey were dicks once in a while. Thats what happens in business. Thats what happens to us in our jobs as well. Suck it up or move on. Frey and Henley knew what sells. If they were so selfish, why did the long run have Walsh and Schmidt singing hits songs as well. They could of taken them for themselves and not the newer guys.

I just finished Felders book, "Heaven and Hell" and I do think that Frey and Henley treated him unfairly, and his court case and law suit definitely stated so. But I do think Henley and Frey were entitled to more because of their voices, although Felder did write their most successful song from start to finish, Hotel California. Felders arguments weren't always for himself, often times they were for the interests of Randy and Birnie.
@hcdcco-ds4ud
@hcdcco-ds4ud 10 жыл бұрын
I am sure that Felder did get the short end of the stick. I have heard Frey and Henley were dicks and did not like Felder. Never the less, the song Hotel California will go down as one of the best songs in history, and I agree that Felder should get most of the credit but I am unsure if it would of been as good if he had sang it. Hard to beat Henleys voice. And its also is unfair to make Felder a god because of this song like some people do. Henley, Frey, and Walsh have had amazing careers with and without the Eagles. I know I am bias being a Walsh fan since James Gang and I will always be. Not that big on Frey. I do hope Felder makes a lot of money off of his book. He does seem like a nice guy.

@dilloncoleman1960 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you entirely. I personally am not a huge fan of Felders solo career, just a little different taste of music. And the same goes for Freys solo stuff, but its the collaboration that made the Eagles so unique and be able to harmonize the way they can. But as far as being a fan of the person themselves, I would put Felder at the top any day!

Well according to Don Felder's book 'Heaven and Hell' all he did was ask how much money they expected to earn when they reformed. They sacked Don because he asked about the forbidden Frey and Henley fruit....money
