Watching this interview makes the absence of Glenn Frey so poignant. He was such a talented songwriter and so integral to the success of the Eagles. I just recently went to the Eagles concert in New York where his son Deacon is singing his Dad’s songs. The band still sounds great but Glenn is so much missed. Thanks for all you gave us, Glenn.

@Connie Schluter Have you noticed Mr. Frey’s handsomeness becomes a lot more intense when he is dressed in a suit and tie? In addition to this 2012 video, another KZbin upload turns me on sexually : the 1980s video for Mr. Frey’s song “Smuggler’s Blues.” His wardrobe in that video sends me to a climax. Of course, I love his musical talent.

Many might not notice how Glenn Frey assumes the silent workhorse role singing long winded (long long phrases) 3rd harmony/backups & having to mesh perfectly with T.B Schmit in so many Eagles tunes... final verse of "Last Resort" is one of the best examples to see this. I watched him damn near rip a vocal chord (crack) performing Heartache in cold dry air at the Calgary Saddledome in the '90's during HFO tour. The opening act couldn't make it so the Eagles played a full 4 hour concert with 2 encores. Can you believe it? They took a 10 minute break halfway through, and Frey was back on stage singing his lungs out again. Eagles to-a-man are a hard hard working group of musicians, lights out, period.

All of this talk about what happened inside the band and the interpersonal relationships are interesting but in the end means little to nothing next to those songs. It's the songs that have made this band one of the greatest of all time. The songs are bigger than the individual members or even the band itself. None of us were there during all of the goings on so none of us know anything. It's all just conjecture. Let's turned down the gossip and turn up the volume on the songs and...enjoy!

He also wrote some love songs like "lover's Moon" and "The One You Love".

What a wonderful musician and singer he was. What a perfect fit for the Eagles band. But what a total Ass-Hat he was as well. One of the biggest egos in musical history. He certainly broke up the Eagles almost single handedly (Don Henley did his share as well). I find it mildly interesting that since his passing, the world has decided to proclaim what a jewel of a guy he was. He was a jerk of epic proportions at times. But who really cares? It's the wealth of music he, and the Eagles, left behind that matters in the big picture, not a childish immaturity and nasty spirit recognized industry wide for his impossible-to-work-with attitude. RIP indeed. I suspect that heaven is full of great players being brow beat by old Glenn as we speak. There have certainly been a bunch of them headed up the "Stairway to Heaven" in 2016.

It seems to be a popular thing to "slam" or speak in disparaging terms about leaders of pop bands, as people do of Glen Frey or Eagles & Mike Love of The Beach Boys...And, it seems to me that when Glen observes that The Eagles are WAY bigger than any one guy in the group is. He says: "In this second incarnation of The Eagles, it's been pretty smooth sailin'!". I find Frey to be a reasonably-down-to-earth guy myself. But, fact is, I've got "No ax to grind"! We should all live and be well!

All about greed? It takes two to play, ya know. If people didn't line up to pay $100-$1000 for quickly sold-out concert tickets, then they wouldn't still be touring, would they? Think about it. Also take into consideration that their concerts average 3 hours long because they have at least 25 Top Ten singles that every American can sing the lyrics to in their SLEEP. We're only talking about one of the most prolific bands that ever existed. The fact that they survived this long is another plus in their favor. No one hums the tunes to "the personalities". It's about the SONGS. Always has, always will be.....long after they're all dead. How many bands can you say that about?

The songwriters almost always have called the shots, egs. Beatles, Stones, Floyd, The Who, The Police, The Beach Boys and on and on. How can one not have realized that?

You either love their music or you don't. Everyone dreams of fame and fortune and only a few have their dreams turn into reality. I love the Eagles and their music. Their lifestyles and their personalities should be of little concern. Enjoy the music and move on. We have a lot more problems in the US than whether any of these guys are dickheads or not.

Fry says 'you know' more than a high school freshman in a speech 101 class. Those Marlboroughs through the years took there toll on that skin.

@skating83 I agree with that statement. People always give Eddie Van Halen credit on everything, regardless of whether he wrote lyrics or not, but Don Felder doesn't deserve it? Lyrics are hard, but coming up with good music can be just as hard. Mozart's operas were written by others, but the music he put to them is some of the greatest music ever written. I love Frank Sinatra, but guys like Nelson Riddle or Count Basie put as much gold in his recordings as he did.

It’s funny that you brought up EVH, another great musician but as a human being, not so much. He proved that with how he treated Michael Anthony.
