You make some good points, cliffsearch. It does appear the Eagles were more collaborative in their songwriting than many other bands. And you make a good point about Felder. Two things: 1.) As fans at a distance we'll never know which member contributed what and 2.) What does it matter? Their music is great & they are one of the most important bands in the history of rock.

A provision of their lawsuit settlement in 2001 was that Frey and Henley were prohibited from speaking about Felder in public. But they HAD to for this documentary. So their lawyers worked out a deal with Felder's lawyers: Frey and Henley could talk about Felder JUST for the doc, but the doc would also include new interviews with Felder to give his side. And Felder also got a piece of the profits from the doc.

Joe keeping it real and not taking himself so seriously. He perfectly balances incredible talent and kindness, expertly showcasing that being kind does NOT mean you are weak. I would love to read his Eagles memoir if he can ever legally write one (guessing a few themes would be: people can suck, life isn't fair, pick your battles, etc).

I agree that Felder would be well known & very well respected by those in the music industry regardless of whether or not he was an Eagle. But would the average music fan have known who he was had he not been in such a high profile band? Not likely. And I also agree with you about Walsh. He did some amazing solo albums.

And would the Eagles have reached superstardom without Hotel California? After all, Felder composed the intro, the music bed/chord progression and guitar solos of Hotel California - which then inspired Henley's lyrics. His contribution was so significant that he was named first in the song writing credits on the original 1976 album. But when the song was re-released on the 1994 Hell Freezes Over album, Henley Frey pushed his name to the back, behind theirs. This alone tells me a lot about their character.

I think what cliffsearch is saying is that the creative process is fueled best by collaboration and exchange of ideas be it through either friendly competition, "personal" best, or drug-induced/enhanced inspiration. All great music has been from a mixing pot of input and influences. But in the case of The Eagles, greed was their downfall both creatively and personally.

LOL! Walsh is beginning to look like an actual eagle!

Don Felder wasn't a core member. He wasn't even an original member. He was a hired gun. He was the lead guitar player in a band whose forte was songwriting & singing harmony. He was & is (I'm guessing) a great guitar player who has all my respect. His contribution to Hotel California was immeasurable but that's just one song (albeit arguably their greatest song) out of many. There would still be the Eagles without Don Felder. But you would never have heard of Felder without the Eagles.
@vinniemoran73624 жыл бұрын
He was an equal partner. He was made one as soon as he joined them. Walsh and Schmit were hired guns. Hotel California isn't any song, it is their claim to international superstardom. And they milk it for all it's worth - even now. And Felder contributed to many songs. The One Of These Nights album took them to a whole new level, in terms of music and fame, and Felder had everything to do with it. They won over millions of new fans who had never given a damn about their country hits. I'm sorry, but this was a band known for their tight, highly complex guitar work as well. That addictive bass groove in One Of These Nights? That's Felder's (Randy was away). As are the amazing riffs, fills and solos in the song.... and the entire album. Credit should be given where it's due. And Henley-Frey never learnt how to do that.

I absolutely agree with you. Felder did some fine stuff with the Eagles and he allowed them to expand their menu more heavily into Rock, which is where they wanted to go. BUT, he would have been at best a highly regarded session player with lots of respect from his peers. The Eagles however, made him well known and rich i might add,
@vinniemoran73624 жыл бұрын
He had to stand up and ask to see the accounts to get rich. And they fired him for it.

To vinnie Moran: that is not true. You need to watch the History of the Eagles. It can be streamed. Fiedler sounded like a pain in the butt.

First off let me say RIP to Glen Fry, your music was and still is a soundtrack to my life. But, I was so troubled by your anger and attitude toward Felder. You and Henley were already wealthy by the the early 90s....and I am sure so were the other Eagles. This smacks of greed and two alpha males who could'nt let go of past anger issues. Besides, Felder's contribution to Hotel Cali probably put a couple million in both of your pockets throughout the years anyway!

No one is without sin. Do you understand what I'm saying? Difference is, Frey had the balls to let his warts show. Most wouldn't have done that. I give him credit.

It seems that people have to tear down Glen Frey, and Don Henley regardless of what they've done. I just don't get it.
@robertarodriguez68247 жыл бұрын
It's because they have treated all the other band members like shit!! They are talented but so are every single other band member that they've had in the band!! They NEED THOSE GUYS!! They are to arrogant (or were) and full of themselves!! You have to read Take It To The Limit, and Heaven and Hell. Those books explain a lot!! You can even see what jerks they are in The History of The Eagles documentary. They were HORRIBLE!!
