These actually do feel like they're played For years and years! I just got a 2023 Murphy lab heavy aged R9 and it is insane how it feels and looks like it has been played and toured with since 1959!

I chose an Ultra Light Aged LP when these first came out. A dealer even helped me personally select my wood through photos. When it was completed, I absolutely HATED the way it looked. The paint didn’t even match what I chose! It’s still on the rack at the dealer, because apparently nobody else wants it either.

I have a 2019 ‘57 VOS ebony Custom (2 pickup) that is fantastic. I didn’t think I’d like anymore aging than that, which is very light. However, I was in San Antonio yesterday at the GC there where TWO of these Murphy Lab beasts reside in the Platinum room behind glass. One is ultra heavy aged and the other looks to be between a Light and Heavy aging, even though the tag says Ultra Heavy aging. I have to say….those are two of the MOST BEAUTIFUL Les Pauls I have ever seen. Both with price tags North of $7,000…..it’s tempting. It doesn’t help that I AM in the market for a ‘59 Les Paul. I was looking at the new production Kirk Hammett Greeny model for much less (still over $3,000) but these Murphy Labs are making me reassess my thinking. I never liked the heavy aging myself or even understood WHY anyone would want that. I get it now, unfortunately for my wallet….and my marriage!

So what’s really the difference between a 57’ LP Custom Reissue VOS Black Beauty (3 pickups with Bigsby) and a 57’ LP Custom Reissue Black Beauty (3 pickups with Bigsby) Murphy Lab? Only the cosmetic features? All of the others specs are the same in both? I’m asking because for my 40th birthday I’m really interested in one, but I read the specs on both and, except the cosmetic features, they look the same.

never was into relic until I got an Ultra Light Aged... no regrets. Gibson nailed it with this marketing. Tbh I don't believe makes any difference in the sound but the vibe and feel makes you want to play more and more.

My favorite Gibson's are the VOS models, they just feel right in my hands, but I'm intimately acquainted with a Murphy Lab EDS-1275 with ultra light aging, and I have to say, it feels amazing to play. It also sounds killer with the Custombuckers. The only way to find anything that plays as good as that would be to find a really nice vintage specimen.

How is it that if you trade in a guitar that’s worn, scratched, and checking, they penalize you heavily because they’re damaged? Yet if Fender or Gibson do it, it increases the price dramatically?

Can we just more “gloss” guitars made? I have a VOS Les Paul and Light Aged 335. I just wished I saw more “gloss” guitar’s being made. I would probably buy more of those.

Will a VOS custom shop age naturally and weather check as well?

Hi there! A VOS will age just as beautifully with time. However, like mine, the aging will be unique to your guitar and respond to how you play it. I've got SG's and they're worn on the neck because of how I play!
