Chris is a wealth of information. I didn't know Laos had a digital nomad visa. I'm sure Laos would get a lot more visitors if people knew that. In Thailand the TM. 30 is easy. Residence owners are required to file that when foreigners stay at their place. It's required to show a copy of it when doing visa changes and extensions. The 90-day report is form TM. 47. The first report must be done in person (or through an agent), but subsequent reports can be done online. That's excellent advice near the end. Spend a year in the country first. Don't get married or buy land when you first arrive. The exact same advice applies to Thailand. I read all kinds of comments on videos with people saying they're going to sell everything and move to Thailand... but they've never even visited the country!? They're basing their impressions on a few videos that make the place sound like paradise. Anybody that comes in with such high expectations is bound to be disappointed. I lost count of all the people I've heard say, "I'm never going back!" Every one of those people eventually left the country. 😅

From what I gather it's all LA-B2. I am not aware of anything called digital nomad visa. The agents I know will not process an LA-B2 without a work permit, because LA-B2 are work visas. Not sure what happens if the work permit is omitted. Vientiane has many brick and mortar offices in certain neighborhoods, so no sketchy alley deals (lol), and they have been in operation for years. Typical prices are as follows: Invitation letter: $100. With the invitation letter you get one month initially, which you can extend by another 3! months, and do can do this twice. One 3 month extension is 40-60 USD with an agent. One year visa with work permit and stay permit: another 3-400 dollars. Total for one year and one month: 400-500. After first year, renewal: 3-400 for another year. That is it. I know at least 2 places like this, as long as you have a Western or East Asian passport these are the prices. I would not pay more than that. If interested, respond with a way to reach you and I am happy to help. If you have trust issues, you can first arrive on a tourist visa and then do this in person. In Laos nobody is going to scam you in a sketchy alley way, it is a very safe country and all these agents have real offices that are open every workday....

Extension in savannakhet cost 630.000 for 30 days. Extension in Vientiane was free (40.000 kip fee) for me

Yes sirrrr, that's correct. You get a 30 day visa but can renew it within the country very easily twice, which gives you 90 days total. :)

As far as I know it's normal dating rules and you're fine to travel together. The only problems I've heard people have with the law here are from married men messing around or messing around in small villages.

Yes can travel together but as a foreigner you cannot sleep together with a Laos citizen overnight unless you are married, it is a breach of Laos family law rules in other words technically need to have two hotel rooms . In Vientiane and popular tourist spots you can get away with it . I know this from experience lol ! Get in touch with me and I can explain more 😀🙏
