I am from Brazil and therefore I speak Portuguese, a Romance language. I loved to see East Timor speaking Portuguese, it is a bit strange to think that one people on the other side of the world is speaking the same language as you, and you can understand everything that they are saying... I love that feeling but at the same time it feels strange. The language that was a lot different in this video was Tamil... OMG, what sounds and rhythm are those?!
@chrissoriano26684 жыл бұрын
Just a clarification. There are 4 languages that are considered "Romantic." These are French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. It has nothing to do with "romance" but rather, they were all derived from the Roman language (thus Romantic), which is Latin. Latin died when the Roman empire expired. But the language mutated into these 4 languages. Note: All 4 countries were part of the Roman Empire although they were the only ones to adapt their languages from Latin. Thus South American countries, which speaks either Spanish or Portuguese came to be known as Latin America.

Timor Leste sound Like Tagalog Because of the shared Influence of Spanish/Portuguese. I thought Indonesian sounds more familiar But now i know Timor leste is closer.

I'm Filipino and apart from English and Tagalog, I also understand Portuguese very well since my 2nd language is Spanish. That Timorese woman in the 2nd video was featuring a gorgeous place in Timor. Although it seems Tetum has many Portuguese words too just like how many Spanish words is in Tagalog

Let me explain what the reporter was telling her story in tetun to report about election . Some words are tetun and some are in Portuguese. She mentioned partidu=party , bareira=barrier, bloko koligasaun partidaria, allianca mudanca progresu, enkontro , chefe estadu , objectivo, lista, deskuiti , oitavo governo , presente , primeiro . All these words are Portuguese . So we mix Portuguese with tetun on our daily conversation.
