Xiangliu’s Love VS. Tushan Jing’s Love (THIS THREAD MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.) Xiangliu’s love for Xiaoyao is the most sincere and selfless. Although he may appear harsh and cruel on the outside, he wants Xiaoyao to be happy even if it’s not with him. He respects Xiaoyao making her own choices and doesn’t try to control what she does. He also secretly protects and does things for Xiaoyao but doesn’t ask to be reciprocated or acknowledged. He doesn’t ask for anything from Xiaoyao. Contrastingly, Tushan Jing may be sweet and gentle on the outside, but he binds Xiaoyao to never give her heart to another man. He is cunning and possessive, wanting to keep Xiaoyao to himself. He wants her to love him for selfish motives, not because it is what will make her most happy or because she will be the safest with him. His love can be smothering and suffocating. Xiaoyao loves Xiangliu because they understand each other. They can be themselves when they are together. There are no pretenses. Xiaoyao loves Tushan Jing because he makes her feel needed and wanted. It is a love that grew out of her fear of being alone. If Xiangliu knew how to express his love and fought for her affection, and if Xiaoyao was brave enough to open her heart to him, I think she would have chosen him over Tushan Jing because she loves Xiangliu for who he is, not because of how he makes her feel. Edit 1: Xiangliu also loves Xiaoyao because of who she is. For Tushan Jing, he tells Xiaoyao that he loves her because she was the first woman to make him feel like a man again despite seeing the deep scars on his body (aka blushing when she saw him topless). He loves her because he feels that she is the only person who will accept him and all his imperfections. Edit 2: Tushan Jing desperately needs to make Xiaoyao think of him. To do so, he sends her gifts (aka the green plum wine, the little fox, etc.) to remind her of him. On the other hand, Xiaoyao subconsciously has Xiangliu on her mind, always remembering to make poison for him even though he isn’t present (aka when she is at Haoling with her dad, at Xiyan Town before she meets Fangfeng Bei for the 2nd time, etc). Now remember the line Xiaoyao says, “No matter how good it is, if it’s not worth it, I will abandon it.” Despite saying this to Tushan Jing, she never truly abandons Xiangliu despite their falling out when Xiaoyao admitted to being scared of letting him into her dreams (aka falling in love with him). Edit 3: A reason why Xiaoyao may trust Xiangliu more is because he doesn’t lie about himself or make empty promises. They both understand that they have different goals and underlying values. While he may be unpredictable and temperamental, what she sees is what she gets. She knows what to expect. She can be free when she is with him. With Tushan Jing, Xiaoyao can’t trust him wholeheartedly, because while he speaks sweet words and promises of a future, they are naive and baseless. Edit 4: When discussing with the Xiyan emperor about marriage, Xiaoyao mentions two potential love interests: one who is already engaged and one who is an enemy of Xiyan. Tushan Jing already confessed to her and is constantly vying for her attention, so it makes sense for him to be on her radar. But Xiangliu had never explicitly expressed his love and has been absent from her life for so long, yet Xiaoyao still considers him a candidate for her love. Xiaoyao can’t help but love Xiangliu. Even if she doesn’t want to, Xiaoyao will always have a place for him in her heart. It is also proven by the poisonous love bug, which can only be effective if the two people love each other. Even though she chose Tushan Jing in the end, the person you choose to marry isn’t necessarily the person you love the most. Edit 5: Tushan Jing is sweet and always puts Xiaoyao first, but his love is not healthy. His whole world revolves around Xiaoyao. It is not good to always put someone’s needs before your own. He relies too much on Xiaoyao for his sense of self and esteem. He needs to be his own person and learn to love himself before he can truly love someone. *DISCLAIMER: While I am Team Xiangliu, this is in no way a thread to bash on Xiaoyao X Tushan Jing shippers. These are just simple observations and conclusions I made while watching the drama. I understand why Xiaoyao chose Tushan Jing over Xiangliu. He was willing to drop everything just to be with Xiaoyao, while Xiangliu is fiercely loyal and would never abandon his duties and obligations. This and the grievances & obstacles in their lives would have never allowed Xiaoyao and Xiangliu to get a happy ending together, but a girl can dream, okay!?

Xiao Yao was right in making the decision to avoid a toxic relationship with Xiangliu. If one has ever in a toxic relationship, one can figure out that the relationship between Xiaoyao and Xiangliu is a toxic one, with Xiangliu being a narcissistic lover and Xiaoyao somehow loves being "controlled" and abused by him.

@@atshai1 Xiangliu has never expressed any narcissistic tendencies. He is cold and unfriendly, not narcissistic. Narcissism is defined as “having an excessive or erotic interest in oneself and one's physical appearance.” He is not that. In fact, he repays people’s kindness tenfolds and often puts the safety and needs of others before himself. For example, he is fiercely loyal to the Chenrong army even though he gains nothing from it, all because of the one Chenrong general who saved him. As seen in the first few episodes, some people within the Chenrong army itself still do not approve of him and ridicule him based on his demon lineage. Additionally, he is not “controlling.” He doesn’t force Xiaoyao to do anything she doesn’t want to once he realizes his feelings for her. He respects her choices and boundaries. That is why once Xiaoyao expressed her fear of falling in love with him, he pushed her away. He doesn’t make any promises he knows he can’t keep. Hence, he never confessed to Xiaoyao, because he doesn’t want to give her hope of a future when he knows he can’t give her what she wants. These are not the qualities of a “controlling narcissist.”

Дійсно, образ Сян Лю демонічно привабливий, має свою сумовиту чарівність. Актор чудовий! Його уста з першого кадру закликають до поцілунку, до розради. Рекомендую дивитися серіал вдруге, бо коли дивишся перший раз, багато деталей не помічаєш. Вдруге - цікавіше, бо акцентуєш свою увагу вже на моментах, які тебе цікавлять. Серіал чудовий, акторська група і їхня гра дуже переконливі і талановиті. Люблю фільми з їх участь. Усім велика подяка за серіал.
