Amazing that the original masters of the concert were lost for over thirty years. It is practically a miracle that we can see this in KZbin today. They were found in a vault in NYC in around 2007. I was hired to resotore and color correct the entire concert for the band's DVD set. I'm proud to be part of the concert's legacy. I grew up with this album, so it was doubly cool. Fun to realize that no one had seen this footage from 1978 until 2008. Seems it was there, but nope. It was gone. We're "all all right" now!!

Weird, I got here from a re-run of "American Pickers". Frank and Mike bought some gear from Rick Nielsen that he had in a storage unit. It was souvenir shirts and some clothes he wore on stage that Rick had in a storage locker for decades. I was in HS during the 70's but wasn't into Cheap Trick, though I had plenty of friends that were. After catching these performances on KZbin, I can see what everyone was talking about. They're a great band and the music would have been right up my alley in HS. The availability of "Budokan Live" is what makes KZbin so great.

My very late introduction to this song came in June of 2009. That's when _The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien_ premiered. The cold opening for the entire show was Conan at his best. In the sketch, Conan had supposedly made all the preparations to start his new show, except for the minor detail of moving himself from New York to Los Angeles. He couldn't get a ride, so he took off running...across the country. The producers chose this song in the background as a message to Conan's longtime fans like me. He wasn't going to change who he was just because he got an earlier timeslot. Unfortunately, NBC executives set him up to fail. They didn't want to lose Jay Leno, who maintained his #1 ratings until Conan took over. With fewer people watching live television in general, NBC decided the best thing to do was save money on primetime programming by giving Jay a 10 pm show. As expensive as Jay's contract was, talk shows are still much cheaper to produce than scripted dramas. Even though NBC knew they were going to take a hit in ratings, they figured the cost savings were worth it. What they didn't count on was a revolt from their affiliates. If fewer people watched NBC at 10 p.m., fewer people also watched NBC affiliates for their 11 p.m. news as well as Conan's show at 11:35 p.m. Also, with Leno at 10 p.m., he got the best guests for NBC, which was a problem Conan was trying to address by moving from 12:35 a.m. to 11:35 p.m. He just didn't count on Leno still being a step ahead of him by moving to 10 p.m. So, just like before, Conan still got second-rate guests even though his show was airing an hour earlier than before. NBC's failed programming experiment could have been corrected if they had the courage to let Leno go, but instead, they proposed pushing Jay to 11:35 for 30 minutes and Conan back to 12:05. Meanwhile, back in New York, Jimmy Fallon had replaced Conan on _Late Night_ in the 12:35 slot, and this schedule change would have meant pushing his show back to 1:05. Conan wasn't having it, and he forced NBC to decide between him and Jay. NBC chose Jay, and that meant they had to pay Conan about $40 million to go away. After his exit from NBC, Conan hit the road with theater shows since he was "Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television." After his non-compete period ended, Conan started a show on the basic cable network TBS, and his 11 p.m. show simply called _Conan_ lasted for 11 years. Conan stayed true to himself throughout the madness. He never did surrender.

Any guitar 🎸 players notice Rick Nielsens guitar is not matching the backing track, pay attention! Go to the 118 minute time counter on this video and look. They were huge in the day, don’t know why they would have to pull this stunt

The 'live' version released on Budokan was taken into the studio and additional parts both guitar and backing vocals were added to it and it sounds great but as stated not it's not completely live-all live albums are generally done this way.

When I think of Cheap Trick Robin Zander mostly just standing there singing, Rick Nielson jumping all over the place, and Bun E. Carlos on the drums with a cigarette in his mouth. Love these guys!

Bunch of us in the break room at work 1 day, discussing just how deep into insanity our jobs were driving us. I couldn't HELP but start singing "Mommy's alright, Daddy's alright...", & EVERYONE joined in on "They just seem a little weird! Surrender! Surrender!". Quite a cathartic moment, I must say. Thank you, Cheep Trick, for supplying an anthem for those of us who jitter through our days with frazzled nerves & caffeine!

Any band/song/album recommendations? GTA San Andreas has a radio station (it's just a playlist of 17 songs) called K-DST and most of the songs on there are rock songs from the 70s and I do find them to be great songs. I would recommend Tatsuro Yamashita: "Solid Slider", "Funky Flushin", "Bomber", "Full Moon", "Rainy Walk", "This Could Be The Night", "Paper Doll", "2000T Of Rain", "Love Space", "Sutekina Gogowa", "Touch Me Lightly", "Last Step" (also as a part of the band Sugar Babe: "Downtown", "Show"). These are all from the 70s, but he also has great stuff in the 80s - "Kokiatsu Girl", "Christmas Eve", "Ride On Time" - Album version, "Sparkle", "Daydream", "LoveLand Island", "Music Book", "Morning Glory" and etc... His albums are usually available on KZbin aI strongly recommend them.
