At the 1981 NFL Draft, when the Houston Oilers chose Morgan State wide receiver Mike Holston, both Holston and the Oilers said that he was the next John Stallworth, as in, Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame wide receiver John Stallworth. Apparently, Holston didn't understand that that #84 he wore was originally worn by Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, one of the NFL's all time leading return specialists and a pretty good WR in his own right. Never mind John Stallworth....he couldn't even wear White Shoes' jersey.

The only thing that Holston and Stallworth had in common were that they both went to an HBCU. Of course, there was a receiver coming soon from an HBCU who would be better than Stallworth. It just wasn't Holston.

Fellow Buccaneers fan here. Given that Evans has gained at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 10 seasons, something that Jerry Rice himself can't even claim, that's a comparison that should be saved for someone who's truly that dude.

Holston wasn't even on the level of Billy "White Shoes" Johnson, let alone Stallworth. I don't know if it was the HBCU connection that was the genesis of that comparison, but Holston and the Oilers would've been better off not going there.

Be careful about cracking on HBCU's. Jerry Rice, the reigning Platinum standard for WR's, came out of Mississippi Valley State. Maybe even in the same draft Holston was picked.

John Staworth was great but as a packer fan I said when we got Duaubs & Watson we might look back at it when Steelers. Got swan & Staworth same draft will they be as good of combo of to a good start but why not say thanks for thinking I am that good
