I wonder there's ever been a situation where a head coach called a play that cost his team the game and actually defended it even though everybody else thought that it was a stupid play. And by everybody, I mean his assistants, his players, the announcers calling the game for various media, the people in the press box, the fans in the stadium, and pretty much anyone watching the game on television. Oh, and the coach not only defended the play and blasted anyone who had the audacity to criticize his decision, but still defended the call when he was asked about it weeks later after he had lost his job immediately after the game because of said play.

Gowin wasn't even a kicker in college. They would have had a better chance of scoring on a Hail Mary. I'm sure he kicked it that far in practice and could theoretically make one from 57 yards, but it's not that easy in a real game.
