@@sy-ky_buddy4603 Their fanbase liked it, but it doesn't do anything for either guy long term. Moxley showed he's just as good as an underneath guy. The underneath guy that went toe-to-toe with the main event guy doesn't look any better because he's not that good. What is Wheeler Yuta? Where's the personality? What's his thing? It's not like when WWE made the 123 Kid competitive with Bret Hart. Kid benefited from that because he was special. Yuta isn't special.

Yeah, I thought that was the best moment of the whole thing. I think Jim likes it more than he was willing to admit. But a match between Moxley and a member of the Pudding Gang just wasn't going to get a positive review. And I do agree that Wheeler looks like "just a guy" in the ring. He's got not physical presence whatsoever. And hopefully Danielson and Regal can legitimately mentor some of these indy guys into becoming better wrestlers, because some of them are unwatchable as-is.

Problem with wrestling now is Taker VS HBK had that match at WM25 where they kicked out of eachothers finishes and it was an amazing match. Now everyone uses that as the template of what a perfect match should be and constantly kick out of each others finish. What they don't seem to realize is that it worked with them because they ARE undertaker and Shawn Michaels. Now its just been done that many times since its just gotten to the same old shit feeling.

Watch is indy stuff. Particularly his matches with Daniel Garcia. He's had some great matches on the AEW Dark shows as well. He also had some good ones during the Ring of Honor Pure Championship Tournament from about a year ago, as well. But his position not random everything was laid out on Dynamite episodes leading up the climax on Rampage. The long-term booking motto is not just a gimmick. Bryan Danielson picked Yuta along with a handful of other names of young guys that needed his guidance like Lee Moriarty, which motivated Yuta to prove himself and eventually get invited to join in with the Blackpool Combat Club. In same promo Danielson mentioned Regal which caused him to come out of retirement become the head of the BCC. During the initial part of his heel turn, Moxley rolled over Yuta raking his back in the process right around the time he blooded 10 and ripped his mask. After Mox returned from his stint in rehab, in February he faced Yuta again. This time Yuta put up a little more of a fight and Mox raked his back again before finishing him off. Then there was the tag match where Yuta declared his intention to join Blackpool Combat Club. And finally the last in the trilogy of solo matches between Mox and Yuta on last week's Rampage where Yuta returned the back rake. There's a video by Dave Knows Wrestling on King's Road Style, which was the type of wrestling performed in All Japan Pro Wrestling (and which eventually became popular in New Japan Pro Wrestling under the guidance of their current booker Gedo and main eventers like Kenny Omega and Okada.) Among other things in King's Road phycology once you beat someone with a finish in a rivalry, it's going take more to beat them the next time. Christian and Orton had a great series of matches over the WWE big gold World Title where they would go hold for hold countering back and forth that kinda resembled what was done here. Maybe Jim didn't pick that up when he was watching Japanese tapes in the 80's and 90's, but just because it doesn't have the same exact rules as a 1983 Memphis matches doesn't mean it's bad. There's a variety of styles out there and not just of one them is right and William Regal said this much on a recent episode of AEW Unrestricted. He's no Spring chicken and he spends a lot of time training the youth but he's not narrow minded thinking his way is the only way. This match fucking ruled. Also on the Best Friends side of the story, Yuta was brought in to replace Trent (similar to Rocky and Trent tagging together in New Japan after Chuck went down with an injury and continuing to tag once he healed up which caused some heat between Chuck and Trent) Yuta basically took the pins and on weekly segments on Being the Elite, BFs would show him footage of the match, tell him he should have kicked out, then Statlander would choke him out. BFs feel like they put in time training him only for him to take the better offer and join up with BCC. In edition, Trent made it clear he never trusted Yuta from the moment he returned from injury.

Sorry but I don't agree with jim here. His preconceived notion of mox has made him not see this for what this match was. The story is simple, mox squashed yuta the first time they met, then had a slightly more competitive match the next time and finally was taken to his absolute limit. And the thing about the finisher kickout is that i've been regularly watching AEW since this past summer and i haven't seen anyone ever kickout of the paradigm shift. So when yuta kicked out i literally jumped out my seat. And since the past 3 week, we saw how yuta wanted to get into the blackpool combat club. @Andrew Vazquez The point is to elevate a young guy with potential. Adam Cole was already an established multi-time Ring of Honor World Champion BEFORE he did 5 years of wrestling school TV, in NXT. Cole literally had his second AEW World Title shot last night live in Dallas on AEW Rampage. He's also just entering his prime at 32 on the same night the 25-year-old Yuta debuted in a trios match for the Blackpool Combat Club, showing off new techniques he just learned like joint manipulation. IMO, it doesn't make sense logically or storyline-wise to pick an established guy who's a stair step younger than the guys mentoring him. Mox himself is 36 giving him 11 years on Yuta while merely 4 yesrs on Cole. In edition, I absolutely trust William Regal going with this lady, Yura, as he was ready to retire. I don't think he'd come back just for the money, and I'm sure HHH was making sure he was well compensated in his... what 11 years or so in NXT? Perhaps 14 or so?... So I don't expect him *not* to have input whenever this kid's name was first dangled in front of him. Personally think Yuta is impressive, but I'm sure Regal could make chicken salad out of chicken shit, if he had to, to turn a phrase. I think 20 years of WWE relying on just guys like Cena and Taker to pull them out of ratings slums and the like has made someone actually trying to elevate young talent rather than bringing a group like Nexus/The Corre up from development just to bury them, has made the act of elevating stars strange to some. Everything that AEW is doing, although it's old as time, it looks foreign, but I enjoy it. Works as a pallet cleanser for all the years of sport entertainment.
@EliteEasyE
@EliteEasyE 2 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Vazquez Cole is already established, plus he's the leader of one stable at the moment with ReDRagon and acting as the leader of The Elite, while Kenny Omega is out. It'd be redundant to have him join the Blackpool Combat Club. If Yuta had all the tools that you described Adam Cole having, then what would be the point of him joining in with mentors? What would be the point of putting him with a group of guys that have stated that they want to mold young guys in to serious wrestlers. I think you're going into this with the wrong premise which completely contradicts the point of the storyline and the reason for this stable as stated by Bryan Danielson when he did the initial promo name dropping a couple young guys, his pitch to teaming up with Jon Moxley, and finally Regal's debut promo and his reoccurring statements from his commentary during BCC matches and backstage segments. Yuta has been in the Blackpool Combat Club for exactly a week. How the exactly would anyone be able to judge his "sustainability" already? Cole got cocky and lost to Orange Cassidy... in a lights out match, who happens to the one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster, who gets some of the highest rated segments. Tully even stated in a interview, which was a shoot, that he got goosebumps from the crowd reaction to him getting involved with Orange's kick gimmick, pre-pandemic. There is nothing for Cole to "rebuild." He's in a good spot and he's just had his second Heavyweight title shot in his short time in AEW. If someone who is literally coming off a heavyweight title match yesterday "seems like midcarder," I truly don't know how to respond. Yuta actually *has* been changing his look recently. When he first started filling in for Trent he came in with a cyberpunk gimmick. He had a long leather jacket and wore a light-up cyberpunk mask that covered the bottom of his face. Since he started being courted by Blackpool Combat Club he's dropped the mask and switched to an old school wrestling members only or flight style jacket. It still organically fits his style as it matches the lined tights he's been wearing, but it also shows Regal's influence along with the in-ring direction he's been taking by adding the aforementioned joint manipulation and various styles of mounted punches he used last night. He's already looking more like a prototypical technical wrestler. On screen he's shaking off the vestiges of his past, as well. As he told Best Friends a couple weeks ago, with his newly won ROH Pure Title dropped over his his shoulder, he doesn't want to be best friends, he wants to be the best wrestler. Anything physically like with his actual body, like, muscle mass, as he's sitting at 199 lbs right now, like any young boy situations in wrestling, will happen over time message exposed to different diet and workout plans from his mentors, unless my thoughts about biology are off.
@EliteEasyE
@EliteEasyE 2 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Vazquez Orange Cassidy isn't a comedy character. He's a wrestler who uses humor in his gimmick. A comedy character would be like the Mummy or the Ninja Turtle. Orange Cassidy is wrestler with great win-loss record who has won a feud with former heavyweight champ Chris Jericho. The loss for Cole didn't count towards his record and kept moving up and became the number 1 contender. Know one knows what's going to happen to Yuta because the jury's still out in him and the BBC are still in the process of molding him. So unless you a fortune teller, stop pretending you do. Jungle Boy couldn't cut a promo until Christian got a hold of him and now he's the World Tag Team Champion. Darby Allen wasn't well known before AEW and now he's a former TNT champ. Dante is amazing and had some great moments when his brother was out injured, now that he's back they have to find a spot for the both of them. His singles record for the year is still there and he'll slide back into that role when it works. This isn't the WWE, just because someone is off of TV doesn't mean the booker has cooled off on them, they just don't want to shoehorn Top Flight on there without something meaningful to do. Hogan and Rock and all those guys you mentioned are well established WWE talents and wouldn't fit in the BCC, at any stage of their careers. Whether you care about the story or not. The paying fans in the arena seem to like it judging by their reaction to Yuta during his matches with Moxley and Danielson and them changing his name last night in Dallas. They're molding high work rate technical guys in the vein of William Regal, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley. And they seem to be looking for more than a promo calling someone hermie and a leg drop. WWE doesn't even have the next generation of those guys and that's their style. But if you're looking for that, a Peacock membership is what? 5.99? With a couple clicks you can watch all that old stuff you seem so very fond of Applying those WWE standards, brother, to an AEW show with a much different fan base will leave you almost as miserable as old JCE. Some Peacock and a little nostalgic sounds more up your alley. The good old days, right?

This giving Moxley that "WTF" look on his face as he's shocked this kid is still able to move. It was effective & got Yuta over. Moxley just did wonders for Yuta. Stone Cold and Rock kicked out of Rock Bottoms and Stunners all the fucking time and nobody (Corny included) ever bitched and moaned about it.

@@BlueTurretGaming Nobody was saying the match itself was bad. The physiology of who did the match and how it happened is what everyone is railing about. The in-the-moment thing is not justified if you look at the whole story. If they booked it for example after he had the 2 losses to still give him a chance to mentor him have him get like 5 wins before the next PPV each more convincing than the next. Then have this match with mox or brian on the PPV. That is now a 10/10 match with a 10/10 story behind it that makes sense. Not the match just being done out of the blue. Sadly AEW has the same problems as all other wrestling promotions. They just have bad creativity and booking and nobody thinks these things out properly. Every show is booked like WWE either they have a plan and don't adapt or they rush things.

It's not about what he's better off at. It's about completely rushing him into this spot. Where was the extensive weeks of frustration with the Best Friends. Where were the wins on television once he developed more of an edge that separated his mentality from that of the Best Friends? Where was all of that? It was barely existent. I don't care what some of you in the comments or Cornette wanna criticize about this match. This match was great. Yuta was trying to prove that he wants to belong and that he wants to be taking seriously and not come in the business to make friends. The story from the start was about Moxley and Bryan taking the younger guys in AEW like Yuta and Moriarty under their wing and helping them reach their potential and be better wrestlers. But some of you guys just wanna find negatives all the time when it's AEW and get a laugh. It's like there's no winning with this fanbase of Cornette's. AEW push a guy that is well known you complain that AEW is pushing ex WWE guys and can't build their own stars. Than AEW is trying to get over a new guy in Yuta and you guys complain and wanna mock him and compare him to a jobber.

If entertaining the crowd isn't the goal, then what is? I think with all these "opinions" out there for people just trying to make money off of being a critic, people forget what the goal of a booker should be, to entertain an audience. I loved this match. Yuta is completely over and this has been well built for weeks. The AEW audience does not care if someone is smaller and skinnier. We are happy to suspend our disbelief for a character we can get behind. Much better than rooting for stiffs like Omos or Singh. The bookers aren't there to entertain Jim Cornette. He can call it dumb all he wants but Jim criticizing a match that had the crowd going crazy is much dumber. He doesn't get to choose what entertains the AEW crowd, they get to choose that for themselves whether he likes it or not.

He also throws insults at AEW fans all the time for being entertained by these storiesnabd matches so isn't this a pot kettle accusation that you are making to mention being entitled to an opinion? The goal of the booker should be to entertain the fans, not some old guy who wishes the product was how he booked it back in the day. Whether he likes it or not, times change. @@davidwichman7364 you guys really love leaning on the times have changed remark and that he's out of touch. It's your favorite go to as to discount what he has to say (isn't effective by the way) because logically, not everything changes for the better. At the end of the day, telling a story that flows well in the ring with great selling and logical moves being done will always make the best match. Treating it like a videogame no selling, kicking out of 20 finishers and doing nothing but gymnastic spots is NOT changing with the times and it's not good wrestling. Because there's still people out there putting on professional wrestling matches, even in AEW. So that change with the times argument has no legs to stand on. And those points I've listed are the same points 20 year vets like Orton has mentioned, people involved with the industry has said and former industry people like Cornette has stated. Let's use your argument against you because you're right. At the end of the day the bookers goal is to entertain, well actually its TO MAKE MONEY. So you're partially right. Khan needs to get a wider audience. The thing is, the audience aren't always morons and they've been entertained by great matches aew has had over the years! Which literally tells you that they're perfectly satisfied with great wrestling matches! They don't need the gymnastic high spot every move indie match when they've proven they can get guys over wrestling. It makes no sense.

I enjoyed the match quite a bit. But I do find merit in Jim's criticism especially of the kicking out of everything stuff. They should've had him counter all the moves making him live up to the title of 'pure' champion. He is small so that's a problem having him kick out of some pretty devastating moves. Have him show his tenacity by just getting out of moves any way he can instead of just tanking everything which isn't very believable. You could say that he was running on adrenaline and treating this match as if his life depended on it but still, there was a better way. On a slightly different note, I sincerely wish we had to hear less of Excalibur on commentary, not that I think he's bad but he's annoying sometimes and having to listen to him every damn show, even on KZbin, it gets extremely repetitive. He doesn't really have different modes, it's pretty monotonous listening to him which is a big problem because he always does most of the talking. Regal is by far the best commentator they could have. If I could get a duo of Regal and JR weekly on any show (as many others have mentioned in the comments), that would be perfection.
