People, including me, loved the idea of AEW. But in reality, he's mostly right. It's new and it's different, but it's different in the wrong ways. The psychology is all wrong. Every match is 25 minutes. Every member of the roster is the star. And with the exception of le champion, whom they need for a little while longer to establish the legitimacy of their title, they're 50/50 booking everyone and every match is a spot fest with 200 false finishes that you can see coming from a mile away and with no real sense of drama. They should keep the talent and fire the booker. Posting the records of the competitors is a great idea, but it doesn't work without the stars actually compiling impressive win streaks. They need a ranking system, like in the old pre-NWO WCW days. That way you can watch your favorite star climb the rankings toward something and title shots aren't just granted out of nowhere. It would take the authenticity and the feeling that the title was important to the next level.

4:25 The best point Corny makes in this video and one of the things that stood out immediately during the match. If you're in an unsanctioned fight, you have your opponent in a vulnerable position, and you have a barbed wire bat in your hands, then why wouldn't you be swinging for the fences? Why would you take the time to gently rake the barbed wire across the guy's face?
@PossessedPatriarch
@PossessedPatriarch 4 жыл бұрын
Deathmatches are not about speed it is about making the krowd think you are torturing other guy and put them through as much pain as possible go watch CZW or Japanese deathmatches they use a lot more brutal stuff
@DieYuppieScum91
@DieYuppieScum91 4 жыл бұрын
@@PossessedPatriarch The torture angle makes sense if there's a long established personal grudge between the two competitors and the announcers sell it as "he's torturing him and playing with him, he could end it with a single swing." That wasn't the case here. In fact we've never been given a reason why this feud is even happening other than Mox wanted to make a statement by coming after Omega. There's no personal grudge for that to make sense from a psychology standpoint. If Mox is looking to make a name for himself, he should want to destroy Omega as convincingly as possible, which a single swing of the bat would have done. The brutality isn't the issue, the lack of psychology is. But that's pretty typical of AEW outside of Cody and Jericho.

What exactly was good about it? It was a 45 minute bore fest that made no sense. It wasn’t wrestling. It was two guys putting on a freak stunt show. There was no art or sport to it, it was just backyard “wrestling” with a big budget. Takes no talent to use stupid weapons and hit the other guy with it. Worse, they were no selling shit that’s supposed to be sold. If they’re not selling, why should I buy it?

The bat thing is like the sledgehammer thing. You have a sledgehammer, but rather than swing it, you choke up on it and poke the guy with it--because, of course, if you actually swing it, you're going to cripple your opponent. This is why some weapons just shouldn't be a part of wrestling matches. It used to be that if someone got whacked with a chair or a megaphone, they were out, and that was semi-believable.

I like hardcore matches when A. The people involved can really tell a story instead of going through a series of spots and B. It’s at the climax of a longer, well told storyline and not the very first match of a so so rivalry with limited heat and C. It can help put one or both wrestlers over. Foley vs Orton from Backlash 2004 did all of that. The people who were freaking out and calling Mox vs Omega the greatest hardcore match they had ever seen....I mean a bunch of mouse traps taped to a board? Lmao
