I'm sorry, but hearing a guy buying himself a boombox to get his own music is absolute gold. And yea.. I can totally see that being heelish. Hell, I'd even hope at one point the cassette would get mangled and 'eaten' during his entrance because that alone would probably get a pop from the crowd. lol Loved the Rougeaus, though.. and I can really only speak for WWF. The Fabulous Rougeaus were totally underrated as a tag team. Always kinda felt Jacques was better as part of a tag team, though. Mountie was alright, I guess.. but he played that up way too cartoony for my liking. Then the Quebecers came around and were ok, so.. I stand by that.

Rougeaus vs the Garvins was one of the most heated-filled feud I have ever seen. I mean ambulances were there, cops. It filled arenas everywhere and what made the feud become red hot was when Precious sprayed the eyes of Jacques Rougeau and he sold it like he had just been murdered, there was blood. The whole Rougeaus family came to the ring. At one time during the feud, the Rougeau's dad got knocked out. So memorable and realistic.
@johngallagher724 жыл бұрын
Was that in Montreal ? ..This might have been around the time Jimmy Garvin was feuding with Rick Martel when Martel was AWA champ or had just lost the title. The Montreal territory was really good and seems to be forgotten about alot in wrestling history.
@johnnyskinwalker40954 жыл бұрын
@@johngallagher72 I don't remember Martel-Garvin but I remember Martel-Michael Hayes. I don't know if Garvin-Martel happened before the Rougeau feud or after. My awareness of Martel as AWA champ happened after the Garvin-Rougeau feud. It was all Rougeaus then they showed featurettes of Martel becoming the AWA Champ and they showed his Japan match against NWA Champ Flair and others. Then the two top stars Dino Bravo and Ric Martel went at it face vs face. This also drew a lot of money. Dino was the Montreal kid, Martel the Quebec city kid and each city had their favorite. Martel around that time may have been my favorite wrestler. He was way more ripped than he was in the WWF(he went the opposite root than most, when they go to the WWF, they roid up and become bigger lol). He was muscular and agile, good look, great wrestler, he had it all. They made a video of him training for the Bravo match and they had the Rocky music playing, it was epic seeing him running, etc...
@johngallagher724 жыл бұрын
Around this time I think they also did a program where Martel and Bravo teamed against the Road Warriors in Montreal. They used these segments on their TV show which we were luck enough to get here in Toronto On
@johnnyskinwalker40954 жыл бұрын
@@johngallagher72 Oh yea I remember that. This was awesome. Even as heels the Road Warriors were mighty over in the territory. If I remember right, that was what lead to the Bravo-Martel split, right. There was another similar situation where Dino Bravo was teaming with Joe Leduc against the Road Warriors and one of the roadies pile drived Leduc on cement and he was pissing blood. This lead to a Leduc heel turn agains Bravo later on cause he blamed Bravo for it. But a lot of people were rooting for Leduc, not only cause he made sense but cause he was so badass in a Stone Cold kind of way.

Interesting. I had always thought the heel turn for Rougeau in Memphis was abrupt. At that point, Terry Taylor was the area's leading young face, and he and Rougeau had been a team. They had what was set up as a "friendly" singles match for the Southern title (Taylor had it at the time), and Rougeau resorted to heel tactics to win it. So began the boombox era, with an overnight attitude shift. Rougeau feuded with Taylor and later Mantel before leaving the area.

@WarrenGee73234 жыл бұрын
Yes they did. In 1986, Ric Flair defended his NWA title in the Montreal territory against Rick Martel. On the Midatlantic gateway website, they once had a listing of flairs matches and it listed that as one of his matches from 86. The interesting thing is this took place during the same time Crockett was having the 86 bash tour. Flair was defending his belt in different territories. The significance in this is after about October 86. Flair was strictly crocketts champion as the territories was fading away. It was indeed a glorious time to be a fan of wrestling.

Ok. I’m one of Cornette’s biggest marks ever, but he is the biggest hypocrite EVER for this opinion of Jacque. Jerry Jarrett HIMSELF said this exact same thing about Cornette in terms of “he’s so annoying let him be himself”. Clearly it worked for Jacque if Cornette feels this way! If Jacque had the balls to say that to Jerry lawyer then I respect him and obviously he was right to say it if Jim feels this way so many years later! It actually sounded amazing even the way that Jim tried to frame it, as if it somehow made Jacque look bad. Jacque has called Cornette out for being really nice to him in WWF but then trashing him otherwise. Jacque carries a lot of cred for knocking out piece of shit Dynamite Kid’s teeth. Jim should pick his opposition more carefully!
