Wow , once you hear jimmy Barnes it really doesn’t get any better. That was fifteen years ago. I’m in ireland now sniffling with emotion watching this video cause people have lost their jobs . How can Barnesy convey what these employees and his home town are going through so well ? Thanks to Troy Cassar Daly for writing this song but Jimmy how do you get better with every song and every note . I’ve read both working class boy and Man . Although Jimmy went the long way about making his life work for him and his family he really is such a great role model. Such a character and gentleman . A privilege to listen to . I hope him and his family have a great life . Thanks to crazy Dave for teaching me more about plumbing and introducing me to great music

As a Brit and im sure with many others, this song hits hard. I'm from an old mining and steelworks town where the young men were guaranteed a good wage and pension when they left school if they weren't necessarily the most academic and it was a part of the culture, as a result all the other local businesses like grocers, pubs, restaurants did well. Now all our trade has been sold off for cheap labour overseas and it's fucking criminal how men in suits are killing countries built by real men in overalls. God bless ya, Jimmy Barnes.

The Elizabeth plant opened in 1963 and at its peak, between June 2003 and July 2005, produced 780 vehicles per day, including the VY Commodore, the Adventra, Crewman, Caprice and Statesman. In its final year it produced 175 cars a day.
@davidgoodwin56764 жыл бұрын
I believe that a lot of the various VY/VZ models variations can be put down to Peter Hanenberger who was GM in the late '90's and early 2000's. He may have been German but he loved Holden and from what I've read he fought very hard to ensure Holden had lots of models off the Commodore platform _ Commodore sedan, wagon, coupe, ute, one tonner, Adventura, Crewman and the AWD system as well. He worked so hard for Holden, in fact, that apparently GM hated the sight of him, because he was so tenacious and didn't let up about getting a fair go for Holden and he kept going until he got what he wanted. Once the VE came and Hanenberger was gone all the variations stopped (except (sedan, wagon and ute). I read the following about him recently..."It’s not my General Motors any more, It’s [now] a very short-sighted company. For me General Motors was a global player. Today General Motors is shrinking to an American company with no foresight, which is in very bad shape, which has missed the market. I believe we now have a management in place with General Motors that has no foresight"

Far out the good old days are long gone. I am so sad our country came to this. Stopping ford falcons and Holden commodore/Holden as a whole was the worst and saddest thing this country could have done. All those memories I will remember. Hot summer afternoons watching the v8 supercars on tv with my dad so eager to see the ford falcons beat the holden commodores, attending the sydney olympic park races and the eastern creek races, gonna miss it all. It just ain't the same anymore. Thank you Holden and thank you Ford for all the memories and hopefully one day we can see the return of these beautiful glorious Australian cares that I call family and hold a special place in my childhood. Love you ford and Holden!!!

This is the Jimmy Barnes I remember and love, not the one who sang River Deep Mountain High (not to disparage that song but ... ). And you know, we've been sold out since the 80's when John Williamson sang True Blue. Or even prior to that. This song by Jimmy (written by Troy Cassar-Daley) is another sad reminder of how far this great country of ours has bent over backwards at the expense of our integrity. We once were the lucky country. We once were the free country. We were AUSTRALIA. But we aren't anymore. Hats off to you Jimmy for turning out something that makes us all realise what a sad plight this country is in. Let's not live under rocks anymore! We need to fix the mess that has been made of Australia, but the question is HOW? How, when we are lead by governments that are too ready to sell us down the river; governments that have been too ready to back off, bow down, forget what we stand for. How? This now brings to my mind an old classic song: To Dream the Impossible Dream...

This song gets me every time, I worked at Fisherman's Bend for 23 years and also a decent stint at Elizabeth (Final inspection & validation) back in the early 2000's. Of course all things do come to an end eventually. But not as early as they need to through successive weak kneed governments that have consistently worked against Australian industry & interests by kowtowing to overseas interests.

@@wendymcgrath7561 The VE and VF Commodores were entirely Australian made and designed. Holden hadn’t sold Opels for over a decade. GM made Holden start importing Daewoo crap and rebadging it as Holden in the last ten years or so. Crap cars too that trashed the Holden name. They should have kept importing Opels, at least they were decent cars.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the support you’ve shown me throughout my career, You’ve always been someone I could call my “biggest fan.” What means the most to me is that you do more than tell me I’m “great” at what I do, or that I’m a shoe-in for an opportunity. You take it a few steps beyond and share the reasons why you think so. Sometimes it seems like you remember my achievements even better than I do myself. I always appreciate your ability to see how my talents can make a difference and you’ve made me a believer too! After a chat with you, I always feel more confident, and for that I will always be grateful. Kindly message me on hangouts email. therealjimmybarnes.connect@gmail.com

Jimmy I have watched this music video many times but today I teared up for the first time in years. The reason being my 1 year old son watching it with me. He will never get to experience what we did with Australians producing their own car and Australian manufacturing in general. I’m going to do my best to show him “what we could do”

Yes Euro Sydney, you are right! I didn't pick it up until I read your comment. Don't know if you're a Springsteen fan but it instantly makes me think of his song about the closing of the Steel Mill in Youngstown. Its called "Youngstown". Good call on the similarities between the two.
