@@Michael-dy2lb SPOILER for 3 and 4 how about character development. Every movie builds up the characters. The realtionship between Riggs and Murtaugh is getting even closer in the third movie. And Lorna for example, Riggs falling in love with her and them being in a relationship. The fourth movie begins with them being together and Lorna is pregnant. What's the point if you don't even know who she is. And even if it's the worst one...it's such a strong franchise. They are all worth watching. Even if the plot isn't the best - the characters of Riggs and Murtaugh are always the strongest parts of the franchise.

The end credits with George Harrison's Cheer Down playing in the background, while the camera pans out to the sight of the port as the sun rises is one of the most evocative closing sequences I've ever seen. It combines the moving quality of the song with an odd sense of nostalgia, which has never failed to draw me in from the first time I watched the movie in the theater!!!
@davestang5454Ай бұрын
That type of shot technique was nothing new when this movie was made. It's been used in both the opening and closing shots of movies. "Cheer Down" was really the best part of the closing credits. It fit in perfectly with the story because it's saying, in so many words "No matter how bad it may seem, it's going to be alright".
@mitchellmelkin4078Ай бұрын
@davestang5454, I didn't mean to suggest the pan was innovative or a different kind of look, just a very engaging vista, which tied into the overall feeling of the sequence, IMO. If it's of interest to you, there are at least a couple of clips of just the end credits on YT which have elicited quite a number of interesting comments along the lines of what I've said.

The joke the other cops played on Murtaugh was building him a "rubber tree" plant. It's a good joke on the surface because of the commercial starring his daughter, but when you consider the bad guys are South African, it takes on a deep symbolism that most people don't get. Solid gag and reference.

You two have become my two favorite reaction movie watchers. And that's for two reasons. One is that I genuinely believe that you haven't seen the movies you say you haven't seen and you're honest if one of you have seen it. I think that's the most important thing to me I don't want to watch a reaction video from somebody who is super familiar with what they're reacting to. But more than anything else you two both seem to have a love of cinema in a way that I don't see very many other reaction channels have. And I like a lot of channels. But you two seem to have a genuine love of the actual mechanics of Cinema in you talk about things in terms of lighting and camera work and writing and other things that make me think of all the reaction channels that I watch KZbin would be my favorite actually sit down and have a beer with.

37:18 - Mythbusters tested that scenario, including pouring liquid nitrogen over the bomb. They found that the tub probably would provide enough protection from the bomb, though both of them would be deafened by the blast. They also found that pouring liquid nitrogen over both the explosive and the battery delayed the bomb's explosion for _15 minutes_ meaning Murtaugh would have had time to leave the house.

Fun fact, the hotel that Riggs and the bad guy fall from into the pool is located right next to the Fox Plaza building, aka the Nakatomi Building in Die Hard, you can see it clearly in a couple of shots.

I always get goosebumps at the title screen and seeing the red "2" descend over "Lethal Weapon", and then immediately seeing Riggs screaming his head off! 😂

Lethal Weapon franchising is one of those, that every chapter is good. even the 4th that is considered the weak one. Every movie does add something into the universe.

@@chrisrubenstahl2046 hell's yeah! I had no idea 4 was considered the weak one. It's far more memorable to me than 3.

LW3 was the weak movie in the franchise. Dumb "bad cops" theme. LW4 had Jet Lee, which automatically upgraded it.

The Lethal Weapon series is amazing. Same core cast, same director, same musical contributors. That continuity really keeps you invested in Riggs and Murtaugh, as well as in Roger’s family, Lorna, Leo, and Captain Murphy. Peak action-comedy filmmaking.
@OfficialMediaKnightsАй бұрын
Loved both films! Really excited to see more of this. Really enjoyed how they kept it consistent and what we loved from the first film was very much present here 😃
@c1ph3rpunkАй бұрын
That’s really a good point, there’s SO much continuity across films, something seemingly forgotten quite a bit today.

This was a great sequel!! The chemistry between the characters of Riggs and Murtaugh are unmatched. A lot of buddy-cop movies tried to imitate from this movie but failed. Anyway, glad you two enjoyed it. Question, down the road would you two ever watch all the Bond movies from the very beginning with Sean Connery? Just wondering, anyway enjoy your holidays.

South African apartheid was a massive issue "The Anti-Apartheid Movement (AAM) was a British organisation that was at the centre of the international movement opposing the South African apartheid system and supporting South Africa's non-white population who were oppressed by the policies of apartheid. The AAM changed its name to ACTSA: Action for Southern Africa in 1994, when South Africa achieved majority rule through free and fair elections, in which all races could vote."

Yes, I think that it's hard for people who weren't alive for it to realize what an on-the-nose choice for a purely evil villain this was.

@@donnaroo8042 It’s hard to believe Mandela was only released from prison about seven months after LW2 hit theaters. I was only 11-12 at the time but it was a huge news story. I can see why younger people watching LW2 now might not realize why the South Africans made such great villains in 1989.

It’s so hard to watch Joe Pesci in these movies when he plays a loveable little chirpy guy… When we’re all used to seeing him be a bone chilling mobster in Goodfellas, or a cold blooded psychopath in Casino, or one half of the sticky bandits in Home Alone. But when he’s a good guy he’s absolutely adorable. Won’t spoil the ending of LW4 if you guys haven’t reacted to it yet, but it’s so wholesome!

You guys have to watch Maverick (the Mil Gibson one not Tom Cruise one) also directed by Richard Donner, you'll know why I'm suggesting it when you see it.🤫
