Hi, the cryo thing. There are several majour problems with space travel: large distances therefore lots of fuel is needed, oxygen, food, etc.; acceleration and deceleration; shielding and weight distribution. Cryopods fix most of these problems: if you place a human into stasis you don't need to expend so much resources over the long journey. Assuming that you are well fixated into the pod you can withstand acceleration better - especially if your blood and fluids have a changed density. Considering the pods with you inside occupy very little space, shielding can be far more effective - say a compartment with several meters of insulation, i.e. led, water, etc. I hope this helps.

While the Offspring was certainly 👍🏻👍🏻, the zero-gravity scene (i.e., where Rain finally got the opportunity to *go to town* on the approaching Xenomorphs) was definitely a highlight for me, especially in terms of how the zero-gravity was used when Rain and Andy had to navigate through the Xenomorphs’ acidic blood. Maybe they can link the Yvaga system with the Yautja. I mean only thing people know about Yvaga are tall tales from Weyland colonies. That would be harrowing for Rain and Andy to escape all that just to wake up on a Predator hunting planet with the black goo.
@toooriginal3816
@toooriginal3816 2 ай бұрын
@@JK-tw3ne I’ve got my own theory on the Yvaga system they are traveling too. They mentioned it’s a “Paradise”, in Prometheus deleted scenes the Engineers call their home Paradise. Also Yvaga doesn’t allow synthetics. So I think Yvaga is ran by David after he went there to eliminate the Engineers. He doesn’t allow synthetics so that they can’t stop him or his plans, he also broadcast its paradise to get more people/test subjects. This way it even further ties Prometheus and Covenant to the series.

@@OfficialMediaKnights Well, the big thing about how they saved so much money was that they didn't use a lot of CGI, they did as much as much as they could practically. The xenomorphs were almost all practical, including the cocoon one. The CGI was reserved mostly for the swarming facehuggers and the acid effects, and even some of the acid effects were practical using panels made out of sugar, so that when water hit them they started to dissolve. There was also a lot of puppetry in Romulus, a skill that has nearly died out in Hollywood. And the fact the offspring 2.0 was a guy in prosthetics and not CGI probably saved them a fair few million.

I really like Prometheus except for one or two blunders. (Why the hell did the permanently scared idiots suddenly touch the space cobra?!) And I am sad, that Ridley Scott was not allowed to make the trilogy he had it mind because people hated the film for not being an Alien film, despite it being a solid sci fi spin-off story within the same universe, as intended. By the way I believe Alien Covenant is Scotts middlefinger to those "fans" and him being portrayed by David, who says stuff like "I am not here to serve". And this middlefinger also includes the most boring origin story for the Xenomorph imaginable: "you did not like my vision and you want Aliens -> here you get Aliens and btw the Android created them. At first I very much didn’t like that that they used the late great Ian Holm’s likeness for “Rook”, but later I found out that not only did his family approve, they said also Ian would’ve loved to have been part of this movie because he loved working on the first one so much. And I agree he would’ve loved to have been a part of this, just watch old interviews of him talking about Alien. Also, I thought it was very clever for the company to name their androids after chess pieces, like Bishop and Rook. It shows what the company thinks not only of its androids, but of all of its employees, as nothing more than disposable pieces on a game board that can easily be replaced.

One of the best and most chilling moments of foreshadowing in this movie has to be the painting they see when they enter the station. I liked how Romulus low key tied up some of the loose ends from the two Ridley Scott prequel films by connecting the black goo directly to the Xenomorph. The Engineers were harvesting this "gift" from this perfect organism and using its remarkable genetic plasticity as a basis for their own biotechnology. The fact that the Offspring at the end of this film resembles an Engineer indicates that the Engineers were using Xenomorph DNA to genetically enhance themselves. Perhaps this is what gave them the ability to traverse through space so they could seed more worlds with life.

Another movie released on stream yesterday, a dreamworks project called THE WILD ROBOT. This movie deserved more praise, honestly best animated movie since the how to train your dragon franchise and I HIGHLY recommend it. Everything you’d want from a dreamworks movie from great animation, heartwarming story, emotional, good characters, great voice work, and honestly just an awesome time. Love you guys

Did you notice that it is actually the original Alien movie, Xeno too? the one hanging on the ceiling? You can see a close up shot with the harpoon Helen Ripley shooted at it to get rid of it still stuck in. The fact that it cocooned to survive in space is such a cool addition.

My favorite thing about Raine and Andy's relationship is she asks him what he wants to do and ensures it isn't because she is asking. Basically what many fanfics focus on in Walter-centric fic. Ensuring he is consenting and not just following a program/directive. Consent is something most media gloss over.
@Darkstar72SR
@Darkstar72SR Ай бұрын
When Andy replies to Rain’s question, “how could you do that”, with, “what? Leave someone behind”, it’s done with such lack of emotion, like he’s trying to get her to realize that as long as you can see an event from a certain perspective, you can justify any action you like. Maybe if Rain starts thinking like that she’ll survive this nightmare. Andy’s way of doing what’s best for Rain while being hamstrung by his new directive.

Alien: Romulus was the first time in almost a decade I had been genuinely *scared* of a horror movie, and I LOVED IT! The scenes of trying to sneak past the facehuggers, shooting the Xenos in zero gravity, dodging past all of the acid blood in zero gravity, and then final scene of trapping and killing the *”Offspring”* as it was credited, all felt like something out of a top tier horror action game. And hopefully Alien: Isolation 2 is just as amazing as this movie.

I’m so glad you guys also appreciated Andy’s call back to Ripley’s iconic line. Like even me, Aliens is my favorite in the saga and that line is SACRED to me. But I understood why he delivered it that way and even said it at all. Weakest part is the Ash cgi but I still thought it was a cool addition. Wasn’t totally necessary but I’m not mad at it. Also his name being Rook made me giggle; Bishop, Queen and now a Rook. Clever girl. 😂 I knew I could count on you guys appreciating all the details. I freaked out when I saw the save stations and pretty much an exact replication of the room from Isolation, the white table and computers. Tells me Fede was definitely referencing everything including the game.

The queen alien from aliens might not actually be alive. It depends on how close they were to the planet. If they were close, the queen would definitely burn up on re-entry. The alien in the first movie was floating in open space, so nothing to alter its path.

By far the best reaction to this film on YT. Watched a lot of them and they either make the vid too short, talk too much or keep asking "whats this?, who's that?, whats going on?" Like they've never watched the anthology or know the lore. These 2 do. Fede Alvarez brought alien back to it's horror roots . The body horror. The claustrophobic horror. The offspring will give me nightmares. In resurrection i was laughing at newborn . But they actually made this newborn (offspring) scary as fuck . They added one more stage of the xenomorph life cycle which was the cocoon stage . This movie was the CPR of the alien franchise. And seeing that alien isolation is getting a secual . Yeah let's fucking goooooooooo!!. I also believe Alien and Aliens are benchmarks that we’ve never quite been able to reach again since 1986….but I can finally say they’ve managed to get there. Alien Romulus is a love letter and is a type of movie we just don’t get anymore. Was there nostalgia bate? Sure, but to me it never felt like reaching, it felt like the filmmakers using that shared language we’ve developed over the decades this franchise and its extended media have existed. David Jonsson as Andy is one of the coolest performances I’ve seen in a movie in such a long time and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

And Scott sewed it seamlessly between the other movies. And even managed to outdo the chest burster not with jump scare but absolute horror and gore without showing too much. Andy’s story in this legit made me tear up. The way they handled him as a form of autism rep was so good. He’s always following along with what others want, and never actually gets to make a choice for himself, because something autistic people like me tend to do is prioritize everyone else’s needs before our own. He’s only ever allowed to be the tool to conform to everyone else while his imposed “best self” is the cold non-quirky one that has none of his energy. It’s only when Rain gives him back his quirky personality that he truly breaks out as an individual, and I found that to be strangely moving.

As for romulus, I was a bit skeptical at first, but was amazed (i watched it in theater!) Bc as you said, it's a love letter to alien fans and really respecting the original. Love it so much!

I'm really glad I didn't watch the trailer for this film. I felt like the trailer spoiled the surprises in the film. I think one shouldn't be surprised with all the sexual imagery, as the Alien franchise constantly throws taboo topics on your face like a facehugger to keep you in that primal disgust and fear. Remember that this series started with the imagery of forced impregnation on a guy and the subsequent violent birth. Sex, pregnancy, and birth have been the core of the Alien franchise.
