You should remember Geoff isn't here, just the living embodiment of the Ghost Riders in the Sky - all 4 of them.

The cowboy on stage left is keeping the "heartbeat" rhythm at the end chorus with the butt of his riffle. Which I found a really interesting performance touch.

I love the fact that he said these are the Ghost Riders before they died, and he let them do this song without his supervision. I absolutely love this cover. I had to look up the original by D'Angelo, but this is far superior IMO. Those low notes rumble in my chest. Also, l love that he said they were in front of Daryl's Cafe...lol. Great Reaction Mortius!!

The note at 3:51 isn't 2 voices, it's just one. He's singing in 2 octaves at the same time using subharmonics, so he's singing both the higher and lower octave at the same time. It's not 2 voices layered on top of each other, but just an effect of subharmonic singing.

The Cowboys are back! But this time they are out on their own. It seems like didn’t find the Redemption they were looking for and became Ghost Riders. That’s what happens when Geoff isn’t on hand to keep his eyes on the boys. I like the tie-ins to those cowboys in Ghost Riders in the Sky with the sound of spurs and whistle in the background as well as the lightning strike. There is also a nod to 16 Tons with the rifles being used in the percussion. Also check his ad for Daryl’s Cafe. Daryl is the one in the long leather coat, and he started up his own business apparently. kzbin.infoBi0Dngd_d4Y?si=LIb-y0JA1FisvxsF

Happy birthday, Mortius! I haven't played the game, but from what I saw somebody else say, it's really easy to miss this song in RDR2. It involves having to steal a horse (or just ride a horse) back to the camp at a specific point. If you're not on a horse, you don't get the song.

3:44 Fun fact: at least for me, that is (quite close to) how subharmonics sound to my own ear - if I record them, they are regular rumbly subharmonics, but my "internal" (bone conduction) hearing usually highlights the "original" note within the overtones. In fact, I find it impossible to distinguish that higher note in this recording, because it sounds so similar to what I'm used to hearing internally, so it was very interesting to have someone point it out as an added element - I almost wonder if Geoff's perception of his subharmonics is similar and he intentionally mixed this to emulate that sound :) 6:08 Having the backgrounds barely noticeable adds a lot to the "lonely" feeling of the main line in my opinion
@janetdw9 ай бұрын
I never thought about the difference that bone conduction headphones would make as opposed to over the ear. I am curious to see how that’s going to work for me. I have auditory processing disorder. I don’t always hear sounds the way the other people do or it takes me several listens to catch everything. Doesn’t matter how hard I concentrate. My ears hear it but my brain is trying to figure out what to do with those sound waves. Now I’m going to have to go back and listen to everything with the over the ear headphones and then replay with the bone conduction headphones so I can hear the difference. Gives me a great excuse to listen to everything at least a few more times!

At 4:17, almost certain that is just subs. They are produced when you sing a pitch and then fry on top of it, creating the subharmonic am octave below the pitch you are actually "singing." It can be more or less clean sounding depending on proficiency (which I know Geoff has in spades) and how it is mixed. Usually its just there for the low end but in its full glory, there is also a clear base tone. Even with all that said, I could always be wrong, but I'm struggling to hear a backing voice at this particular moment

I might be alone in this, but I really dislike these "gimmicky" low parts: the notes to my ears simply sound ugly and ruin all the songs where they do it. Example here from this song about what I mean: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWa2iIdsfKiEjdE By Voiceplay, another good example is Nothing else matters, where in some parts Geoff does those same notes and it just sounds blargh to me. :) Technically he is obviously brilliant, I just wish he used his beautiful part of the bass voice, and stayed away from those ugly notes.
