I feel like Warriors was the song that sorta kicked off the current era of VoicePlay, it was a big change from what they had done up until then, and showed a whole new side of them we hadn't seen before. It was also a big shock to see Layne with a violin, most of us had no idea he even played 😆

My only complaint about this song is it is way too short. I want more VioLayne, more J.None's smoothness, more Geoff subterranean notes, more soaring Earl and Eli, more stomps, more everything. Please sir may I have some more.

This was VP's first taste of this epic style. Earl wasn't around for much longer after this one and I think that is why they have evolved as they have. Geoff always said that he arranges for the voices they have so I think with earl being so distinctive, I don't think he was as flexible with what suits his voice. They are just very different and it's great

I can't remember, but have you reacted to Voice Play's Daddy Sang Bass? The vocal play between Geoff and Earl is incredible and also its a fun video in general. I never understood the hate for Imagine Dragons. I always thought they were incredible. I feel like it's like the same hate Nickelback gets. Which I also don't understand. This song is epic though. Earl's extreme highs and Geoff's lows are amazing and we also get VioLayne! What's not to love?

Agree about Imagine Dragons-they’re awesome, and they write songs that invite awesome covers. Agree about Voiceplay, too. They HAVE come a long way, but there are pre-COVID pieces that show they had this incredible capability. Not that they were ever bad, just not THIS GOOD ALL THE TIME if that makes sense. You can tell they’ve all been working hard the last two years. A lot of musical groups really suffered from the quarantine-Voiceplay decided to turn it into an opportunity to up their game. It says a lot about them.

Still one of my favourites! I think there are several older ones that are foreshadowing modern VoicePlay, for example “Something just like this” and “Attention”, both from about 5-6 years ago (when they were looking for new baritone, so “Something…” features J None).

Warriors will always be in my top 5 VoicePlay songs! If you want to hear them do straight EDM, you should react to their ‘Something Just Like This’ cover from around the time that J was just joining the group, so it’s this lineup.

Voiceplay can easily (and mistakenly) be pigeonholed into certain styles of music, but every so often they'll come out with something like this that shows exactly what they are capable of and it blows everyone's mind. I've never heard the original but the VP boys produced pure genius with this. Easily my favourite VP of all the ones I've heard.

Now isn't it just so much more fun when you don't know what to expect? Well, it was fun for me, at least! This is why we voted for this one. One note: the A0 held note was, the boys will tell you, tuned down a smidgen by Layne in editing to fit his vision of the song. Geoff has legitimately hit that note elsewhere (Halo, if I remember correctly) but in this the note had help. I really enjoyed this arrangement from VP, and you getting unhinged reacting to it!😂

I was not familiar with the original so went to check it out. I found one where they melded it with graphics from the game so it made a lot more sense to me. It’s a great song and I have become a big Imagine Dragons fan, although pretty late to the game. But this has so much POWER . I don’t know whether it’s the arrangement or the inclusion of the violins or the combination of Geoff’s lows, Earls highs, and the incredible harmonies complete with VioLayne, but it works! Nice visual edit on your part as well. Your green screen green background is perfect!

I'm guessing that adding a reply impresses the algorithm more than an edit. Speaking of hearing new things each time I listen, around one minute 44 seconds in the original video, there's like a crunching/breaking sound that lasts for a fraction of a second (it's hard to pinpoint). I'm not sure if it's a vocal effect from Layne, or a Foley effect added in post, but it's super cool, and adds to the storytelling of this video. Also, to answer your question: *Yes* I know Exactly what you mean! (Seriously, even when you can't put your thoughts into words, even just stopping the video and going "ooh!" is enough to help me notice things I might not have, otherwise).

This was the cover that changed their style. Before this their stuff was a lot different and less complex. Then this came along and almost immediately their style changed. Earl did "I Will Survive" and "Just Sing", then left. Once he left they almost immediately became what they are today.

lol Mortius. We shouldn’t have to warn you any more. It’s VoicePlay. They will do something next-level. Period. 😊 Also: I would agree that their arrangements have changed over the past few years. The complexity and the twists are just maxed out. They always had some…but they’ve upped that ante. I think not touring gave them the time to spend on the arrangements that maybe they didn’t have before.

Can't believe you hadn't seen this one before. It's so good. I don't think I ever knew Imagine Dragons, but people love to moan and complain. I remember how denigrated Abba was back in the day. Radio DJs were very dismissive. And now admit they were wrong. I think a lot miss the fact that J.None also played violin in this one. He is said to be less accomplished a violinist that Layne but does play, nonetheless. The BTS on this one is one of my favourites, with them all doing little dances between takes. So much fun. I think perhaps that reactors watch so many things that they tend to miss the progression of this group which die hard fans see and appreciate.

This video should be renamed: "Mortius Completely Ignores VioLayne Despite Him Being The Entire Point Of Reacting To This Song." No, seriously. Mortius ONLY mentions VioLayne ONCE and that's at the very beginning. After that, he NEVER mentions VioLayne again. The only times Mortius ever mentions Layne during the entire reaction after the initial recognition of VioLayne is to talk about Layne's Vocal Percussion.
@officialmortius
@officialmortius Жыл бұрын
I think claiming that any singular aspect of an arrangement is the “entire point of reacting to it” is extremely silly 🤷‍♂️
@ForeverDegenerate
@ForeverDegenerate Жыл бұрын
@@officialmortius I will secede that "entire point of reacting to it" may have been less than ideal choice of wording on my part and I apologize for that. I tried to condense the full statement and, apparently, that was the wrong move. So, again, I apologize for that. The more accurate "full statement" would have been "Why Mortius Reacted To This Song At That time And Why This Video Exists In Its Current Form." Which, let's be honest, it was and is. You said it at the beginning of the video that you put your next reaction (at the time) to a vote of your Patrons and "Warriors" won by a landslide. And we all know WHY "Warriors" won that vote. And I know you know why it won. It's, literally, the title of your video: "The Origin of VioLayne." Just to give you an idea of where I'm coming from, I see your title of "The Origin of VioLayne Broke Me," watch your video, and realize that VioLayne only ever elicited an "oh right, Layne on violin" from you the entire video. While the song, their arrangement, and their vocals broke you (aka the reaction in its entirety), I would argue that "VioLayne," specifically, did not. Hopefully you can understand that, given the title of your video, I was expecting "VioLayne" himself to break you instead of barely eliciting any kind of response. Let's be honest here, you spoke far more about Layne's Vocal Percussion in this video than you did about "VioLayne." Now I'm not saying that "VioLayne" needs to elicit the biggest reaction from you in the video, but if you're going to title your video "The Origin of VioLayne Broke Me," I expect to see, at least, acknowledgments of the virtuosic things Layne is doing with that violin and, hopefully, at least one moment where said virtuosity "broke" you. And I was rather disappointed that I did not get "what was advertised." That's all. Please don't take this as me crapping all over you or anything as that was never my intent. I've been subscribed to you for a while and you have become, in all honesty, my favorite A Capella Reactor on KZbin. For me, the "A Capella Reaction Cricle" isn't complete until you've reacted to it. As a subscriber and a big fan, I only want to help you improve. And as a brother in neurodivergence (I, too, have ADHD), I recognize that sometimes we need up front criticism in order to improve. So I felt it appropriate to be up front and honest with you when it came to my criticism. Having said all that, I really hope Voctave's Arrangement of "Somewhere" is on your list of reactions to do. I've been dying for your reaction to it because I think it will blow your mind! Also, Voctave is dropping a Nutcracker Medley for the holidays so I hope you'll get around to that once it does drop. Keep doing what you do and I'll keep watching! Much Love!
