Luke’s ( littler) result as runner up at first attempt is a better result for him and the sport . Would have been incredible, but I argue that it will create a bigger appetite and character, than a fairytale debut would have. The future of the sport has been boosted.

I can't believe the Humphries V Cullen match wasn't mentioned, considering it went to sudden death. Nor Littler missing the double 2 in the final. Even he said it was a key moment in the game.

Luke Littler's run has brought millions of potential new fans to the game. Now, if only the PDC clamped down on the embarrassing stag night behaviour of the fans -and returned us to the original rules of respecting the players during the throws- darts could really become a respected mainstream sport.
