@@loriguercio4374 Thank you for your comment. My post was 10 months ago. I actually forgave my exhusband on our anniversary in December. I simply said, "We both deserve the gift of forgiveness on our anniversary. I forgive you." That was all it took to experience the freedom I now feel. The freedom from the weight that I was carrying in my heart and on my shoulders.

What helped me in choosing to forgive, is looking into how much I’ve hurt God thru my own disobedience, pride, sin etc. and He always finds me worthy and loved. We are commanded to forgive or we won’t be forgiven by our Father. It’s a freeing to ourselves. It also does not mean reconciliation in every circumstance. Most don’t even ask for forgiveness anymore. Sad. Forgiveness frees our spirits. It is a good thing. It is a process.

Such wisdom you said here thank you. You are right most don’t ask for forgiveness. In this day and age, ppl text you and that’s code for do you forgive me? If so you will text me back. I’m so confused in this lost day of technology. We literally have to fall of the bed from sleeping onto our knees in order to decipher what the Lord wants in our lives and WHO.

I have only gotten through half this episode and I have 7 pages of notes! Praise Father God! The thing that got to me the most so far was Ephesians 4:27, even though your focus was 4:26, is the AMP version of verse 27 And do not give the devil an opportunity [to lead ME into sin by holding a grudge, …”. WOW! What a thought that the devil can use the hurt he caused me in this way…to lead ME into sin. This is transformational for me. I hope I explained it correctly (after much weeping and asking forgiveness for my responses that did just that)! No more. God’s way is the only way that works. Thank you for the clarifications and desperately needed, accurate Scripture teaching!

When I heard you said " bitterness was a protection for the other person to not get close to hurt you , but it was eating away inside of you and turning the best who you are into someon you were not meant to be" That is what is in me and it hurts me because my children tell me "mom you are not the same joyful, happy, person you used to be"

What I felt made it hardest to forgive right now, is not even necessarily the newness of the hurt, but the fact that he isn't sorry for what he did & he doesn't even think he did anything wrong. I'm in a relationship with this person and I can't leave for different reasons. It's tough right now not knowing how to forgive when they aren't sorry or remorseful.

I tried desperately to help my marriage be one that was a reflection of Christ and His bride, and now realize I can only control myself and trust Jesus with the rest. Lysa your story reminds me so much of my own. Thank you for being transparent.

This puts a lot in perspective for me. I've been asking God what is wrong with me? Why am I being so unkind and bitter toward someone. Why can't I forgive them. I now understand, I alone cannot forgive them. I am commanded to forgive, but Christ in me is my help. He will help me to move forward and truly forgive this person. ❤

In my thought on forgiveness, it is not extending mercy necessarily to the one who has offended us, but ultimately, forgiveness frees us...not the offending party. They are still guilty before God. But, forgiveness frees us in our hearts. The Bible tells us that the root of bitterness will defile many. So forgiving, as Christ commanded, free us from the devastating destruction of bitterness ruling our hearts and lives. God will deal with the offending party, but we can be free ourselves.

“I could walk this through with God” - it. This statement hit me like a glorifying Mack truck. Thank you! The fact that forgiveness doesn’t have to mean reconciliation. Phew! What a load off! I think forgiveness is offering freedom - to myself: from the impact this has on me. From the expectation that this person will act in accordance with the assumed responsibility of our social contract (marriage, friendship, whatever type of relationship it is) that this person either isn’t capable or isn’t willing to fulfill. I release them from my resentment and anger over this and I rescind my expectation that they might repent towards me - in hopes that me cancelling their debt will show God I am willing to let go of this association for Him to manage, into His care because I trust the Lord to guide me, even if it’s away from this relationship. Sometimes I can forgive more fully from afar. From a distance I feel safe with.

I was severely abused by a narcissistic mother. While unearthing some repressed memories over the past year, my kindergarten best friend reconnected with me. She went through some things, too (haven't we all?), and during a phone conversation, was going on and on about how much my mother loved me, so I in frustration, blurted out that she had, when I was 10 years old, kicked me almost to death, screaming, "I don't know how you've managed to LIVE this long! You're too Stupid to LIVE!", repeating "stupid!" with each kick, until I resigned myself to death. My beautiful friend, in hearing this, spoke softly and sweetly, saying, "I'm so sorry, I'm sooo sorry!" repeating that to my weeping and sobbing. Just hearing a soft, gentle female voice speaking to me in that manner was so soothing, so validating and very healing. I realized then, that while I had been seeking healing from a male in a romantic relationship, I needed a safe and loving female to acknowledge and apologize what happened to me that day...something I never got from my mother, who when confronted claimed she had no memory of it then went on to blame everyone except herself for her actions. May God bless my beautiful friend Robyn. Her words were exactly what I needed at exactly the right time . Thank God for her.

It has taken me 2 1/2 years to heal from my husbands affair. Many bad words came out of my mouth for awhile, which I regret. My anger was so strong. I would pray and ask the Lord to shed His forgiveness in my heart. I would ask my husband to forgive me over and over. I have watched many testimonies of other Christians who have gone through this and it seems like they downplay the reality of the anger and other emotions this brings up. Makes me feel like I'm the only Christian who has ever used curse words over this. I can now say that I have truly forgiven all parties, but it was a process.

🙋🏻‍♀️Ur def not the only Christian who went off on their husband in the worst way after discovering infidelity. And it's been 2yrs for me since he chose his drugs & affair partner over our marriage - I still am having a really hard time with forgiving them. Her especially, even tho she's not the one who made vows to me, she did put a LOT of effort into destroying my marriage. Idk but I think it's totally understandable to cuss & scream & cry. Then we have to ask God's forgiveness & apologize for truly harsh words to our husband bc we are supposed to walk in love, but God knows our hearts. He forgives us, sometimes we have a hard time forgiving ourselves tho. I try to remember to have empathy for the human condition, for them & for myself. It's difficult tho for sure. So much pain.

Also, something that helped me forgive, was through prayer and fasting. During that time God showed me how to be thankful and His Holy Spirit filled me. During fasting and prayer God showed me gratitude could not live where thankfulness was. And I was truly thankful for Gods blessing over me. I could see and acknowledge Gods blessings. The event that happened to me that required me to forgive this person, put me in a season of stillness. God was so faithful during this time. I searched God and He showed me how He longed for me. He completely changed my heart. It is something that I pray for daily once I understood this.

I learned about your videos tonight at My Church's Divorce Care Class. After 30 years of marriage I am divorcing him. I can't and will not take the physical and mental abuse anymore. He is an alcoholic, pot head and addicted to Porn and he has hurt Me for too long. I came to Christ almost 2 years ago and My body is a Temple of God and I won't be treated like as He calls Me, "His Slut". He has hurt Me from the beginning of Our marriage. The main thing I am having trouble Forgiving is that he promised Me a child when We married. I was almost 34 and 2 years into the marriage he said he didn't want a child. That was My lifetime dream to be a Mom. He told Me I could leave, but at the time I was raising his 7 yr old daughter and her Mom had already left her. I couldn't do that to her. I stayed in the marriage and I had tried to commit suicide 5 times in 2 years and he never cared. Red Flag! #2 Plus he lied to Me about giving Me a child. He has 3 kids and was married 2 x before Me. Red Flag #1 Why I marry a man with 2 Ex wives and 3 kids? What was I thinking? This is a tough One for Me to Forgive. If I'd have left, I'd have a child. I can't let go that I don't have a child of My own. Of course, His kids are on his side and They won't even speak to Me. I put 30 years into each One of Them and they don't care about Me One bit. I'm hurting and it's still not official in the court. But, its official in My heart that I will never let anyone hurt Me like he did. I'm not His slut or anyone's. I am a Child of God who desires a better life and My body will always be a Temple of God!! Please pray that I can get through this and eventually Forgive Myself and Him. I know it's going to take time. Maybe a long time. 😢 💔🙏✝️

Therapy and Theology: forgivenesses “forgive me father, for I have sinned!!” The father from the theology asks behind a certain “what exactly have you done my child?” The sinner replied: “Father I have been compromised by one of your fellow followers” the father from the theology “child!! I am so sorry about that!! Perhaps the ministry can compensate you To lesson your sufferings” The sinner replied: “ that will take care of the external wounds only” the father from the theology replied: “ I have with me a therapist to assist you to overcome the trauma”!!! The sinner replied “ Humm!! Which means MUST forgive and forget? What if the wounds resurrected ever once a while? Am I going to get the same treatments!!” The father from the theology replied: “ child!! No!! You have to sign a one time non-obligatory contract” hummm the sinner replied. “ then I have to consult with my lawyer”. The discussion ends!!

What if the other person keeps his behaviour. Can one really go on in a relationship by forgiving yourself?

What if I forgave (the affair) but I'm not ready or not want to be in the relationship (marriage) anymore?

Hi Riley! Jim is referring to a Greek word "Aphiemi" that Joel mentions earlier in the episode used in Matthew 6:14-15. Joel says earlier, "Aphiemi is a judicial declaration of a release. It's saying, you're innocent, like I'm done. I'm no longer going to hold this offense against you. Notice this. It has everything to do with me and much less conditioned on them. This is a personal act that I am making."

You know, I hope you don't mind me sharing so much, this is very healing for me personally, I struggle with how the Bible is interpreted by the Christian community - not everyone but most Christians as well-meaning as we are, are missing some essential truth and revelation in the Bible. I do believe as we enter into the Age of Aquarius there is a fresh new wave of the Holy Spirit being released on Earth and teaching those of us who will stand on the shoulders of many great teachers such as TD Jakes, Steven Furtick, Joyce Meyer and present company included and be teachers of new wine in new wineskins. Not corrupted in any way, shape or form but just for such a time as this.

There is no denying that there is a malevolent evil energy on this planet but personally, I believe that EGO is the devil, EGO is the flesh.....

Just remember - what if Jesus said I don't feel ready to forgive you? That would be a fearful state or condition for us all.

Jim is pretty booked these days, but you can certainly inquire with his office! We recommend finding someone from the American Association of Christian Counselors: aacc.net

Please the other person continually doing these things over and over again on daily bases. They are committing their act with pride and turn around and blames it on the other fellow. They are still in the act. They don’t feel like they have to stop, and they rather do finger pointing, that it is your fault that is why they do what they do to hurt you.

I am in a similar situation with my sister. 💔 Constantly trying to forgive her as she consistently hurts me. 😢
