While not specifically related to the video's topic of the jump ball, it is interesting to observe that the game clock and shot clock show 10.1 seconds to begin this contest (can be seen at 2:09 elapsed time on the video). The timer realized the mistake shortly after the home team secured possession of the ball and started dribbling and reset the clock to 8 minutes. Just one more thing for the crew to be aware of prior to the toss.

Great observation. We should always check the clock before putting the ball in play, whether it is on the jump or even a throw in. Most of the time the table has it right, but we should still verify every time, just in case a mistake is made. Thank you for your comment.

thanks for this great vidoe. For the Jump Ball Foul play (7:34), since the tossing referee does not have whistle in his mouth at the moment, shall the U1 blow the whistle? with the NFHS 23-24 rule change, would the throw-in spot be 28 foot mark?

U1 or U2 can get this! If you determine the ball will be put in play in the front court of the throw in team, it would be at the 28’ mark. But if you determine it will be in their backcourt, it would be at the spot on the sideline closest to the spot of the foul.

In the final play (the foul on the jumper), it appears this is to start OT given that the teams are lined up to go towards their bench. If the bonus has been achieved I assume the white team jumper (#34) would be shooting foul shot(s), but is the arrow then set to the black team?

You’re observation is correct and your shooting scenario is also correct. If white is in the bonus, they would shoot 1-1 or 2, depending. The arrow would be set toward blacks basket as soon as the ball is at the disposal of the free thrower.

None of these officials in the first clip looked at the clock to make sure it was ready to go.

It’s hard to remember when 99 time out of a hundred it’s not an issue, but that 100th time is what you want to be ready for.

Under Jumpball restrictions, that play is legal. Question: if the jumper taps twice or taps once and the 2nd grabs the ball, is it a violation?

Niether jumper is not allowed to grab the ball until the jump ball ends (when the touched ball contacts one of the eight nonjumpers, an official or the floor)
