What if you accident it mis dribble the ball against a part of your body like your hip, you thigh , your back ( on a behind the back wrap around ) … can you cointinur your dribble or do you have to pick it up and pass it? … it’s a common thing and people continue dribbling
@Jeffdidntkillhimself3 күн бұрын
12:09 second one I would pass but understand if W31 goes to retrieve the ball and dribbles it off his foot and it goes out of bounds you have to live with the coach going crazy. Lower level you might call it, big time high school or college you let it go.

Just gonna jump in here to say that although you are technically correct, the pivot foot movement is so minimal and doesn't create any advantage, so that's a travel you would let go. The more important action is the out-of-control defender taking the shooter out. As a guideline, after any whistle, you need to be able to articulate the advantage or disadvantage that was caused. If you can't, you should have passed on it. On the theme of game management, if you call that travel, you are going to have a field day trying to manage the yellow teams coach, who is going to be rightfully furious! For reference: I would watch the Olympics Gold medal match between US and France. Curry shuffles his pivot foot slightly before many 3 pointers, but there's no whistle because it doesn't create an advantage.

Sir I want to ask 2 basketball moves , if it's legal or not 1. If we are stationary and someone passes the ball so which foot will be pivot ? 2. Self passing fake , when a player stops on his way and fakes shooting ( release of bal ) so it's legal or not ?
@OfficialsInstitute17 күн бұрын
If both feet are touching the court and a player receives the ball, either foot may become the pivot. Not sure what you’re asking on the second question.

If a player releases the ball, and their pivot foot stays on the floor, they can catch the ball again without penalty.

4 out of 5 correct, play number 3 could be a double fault, in my opinion the defender looks for the player who is moving with his shoulder… I see that both players could have looked for contact. (Analyzing the play several times and with zoom).

I am watching the first video with my 14-yr old freshman son. We both contend that the ball was not on the floor when the contact was made and therefore not a loose ball. The black teams player had possession of the ball nearly a full second before the white team player made contact. He did not scramble for the ball nor did he bobble it. It was a clean pickup. He in fact had enough time to secure the ball with both arms and was looking up court when he was essentially tackled by the white team player. That is a foul. This was not a case where two players were diving for a loose ball at the ball at the same time. The black team player had possession and braced himself for impact. The player could have been seriously hurt. This I see clearly in real time but I am sure this would be difficult on the floor.

to be honest, this is counter-productive on the Josh's intent of his program. Why are people trying to make a point? You're not going to get kudos from across the country. This is easy. A player cannot jump on a player to firmly hold the ball. Geez. Josh's answer should be, "refs what you should be looking at the CONTACT FIRST, call the FOUL then be prepared to explain to the coach IF he has a concern. Unfortunately, I will not be listen to this banter.

The play at 39:50: I don't know if this is actually in the rules, but when I played, it was assumed that two teammates with the ball did not travel unless they both moved the pivot foot. I remember it being explained that each person was considered a "leg," and each leg was tethered by that player's pivot foot. If both players moved the pivot foot, it was a travel; if not, it was legal. However, I don't know that this was actually based on a rule back in the 80s and 90s....

Don't think that was ever a written rule. Maybe a teaching point or a philosophical approach, but not an actual rule.

I'm not sure about #4. Does the offensive player have a higher responsibility for contact simply because the defender is not paying attention? I mean he's on defense, so where is he running if he does not know that the offensive player is coming at him. There are no other players to defend in the direction he's running. I think he may have purposely placed himself in the path of the offensive player.
@OfficialsInstituteАй бұрын
There are rules on how to set a screen legally. As long as the offensive player is within those parameters, there is no additional responsibility, regardless of severity of contact. Here is one of our Rule Reviews discussing screens. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKTQf4JmeJaegNk
@MaydayAggroАй бұрын
@@OfficialsInstitute I realize this, but why are we assuming he was setting a screen? The defensive player was running to a place on the floor where there were no offensive players (toward the 3 point line between top of the key and the wing). How can we consider this a screen? Is he setting a screen for himself? It looks like off ball movement to get open.
@ChadTX447 күн бұрын
I agree. Really tough to call that an offensive foul. The defender moved into his running lane at the last second and didn’t even know the offensive player was coming across. The offensive player was definitely not setting a screen.

17:24 I like the delayed whistle on this play. If the opposing coach were to say, “that’s not your call,” what’s something you can say to keep the coach off your back?
@OfficialsInstitute2 ай бұрын
This may be an instance where the coaches comments does not need to be answered with anything. It is a fine line we walk with communication with coaches, but we don't need to have a conversation every time they say something. General rule of thumb, if a coach asks a question, answer it. If they are TELLING you their opinion on something, let it go. Obviously all within an acceptable realm of tone and mannerism.

There’s way too much confusion in Gen Z about a rule that can be spoken in a single sentence. Put simply, Gen Z doesn’t read, and doesn’t think critically. Here it is, in one sentence: “If you pick up your pivot foot, it can’t come back down.” We learned these rules in elementary school. Gen Z teens and twenty somethings are having their minds blown by one basic rule. It’s no wonder the NBA has become a toddler playground. This generation literally, LITERALLY, has their mind blown by the simplest of rules. It’s not complicated, kids. Learn the rules before you play the game. They’re rules that can be understood by nine year olds. The first several travels were OBVIOUSLY travels to any Gen Xer. Not even remotely difficult calls.

It does NOT appear player achieved front court status before touching the ball because he had only one foot in front court. Rule requires BOTH. Since he had back court status, touching the ball was not a violation.
@OfficialsInstitute2 ай бұрын
A players location is based on where they are touching, or last touched the floor. If only one foot is down, that is where they are located. The only exception is for a DRIBBLING player which requires all three points. But this does NOT apply to any player without the ball or a player holding the ball. Thnx for watching.
