#1 - I just had a similar play. Tip from defense then tip by offense into backcourt. Offense retrieved and I called correctly backcourt. There was an agreement… I stuck to my guns.

Because the rule is different from High School to College, it creates a lot of confusion for fans and coaches alike.

Josh in Play#3, the defense deflected the ball towards the division line, it bounces in the front court still in the air it is hovering over the back court but has not touched into the backcourt yet, so the ball still has front court status . Now the offensive player steps into the backcourt and grabs the ball before in touches the backcourt, wouldn't this be a violation on the offense? Can you explain to me what i must be missing on this play?

Because the player had backcourt status before the ball touched him, the ball is considered being put into the backcourt by the defense. Here is a case book situation you can read: 9.9.1 Situation F

Officials Institute: let me just say thanks again for everything you do. Five was the hard one here. I thought it was legal but I still only came to that conclusion when I paused the video. I thought it was legal because the player who received the ball clearly had frontcourt status when he caught it. If you're not the first to touch it in the backcourt, it can't be a backcourt violation right? However, if you look up the rule (9-9-1) it says "A player shall not be the first to touch the ball after it has been in team control in the frontcourt, if he/she or a teammate last touched ...the ball in the frontcourt before it went to the backcourt." Which is to say, the frontcourt status of the player who caught the ball is irrelevant - once the BALL has backcourt status you can't touch it regardless of where you are unless your opponent does first. 9-9-2 has a rule against putting some English on the ball and spinning it back to yourself in the backcourt. This example #5 is basically the same logic applied to putting Englishon the ball and spinning it to yourself/a teammate in the front court. Great great video, I am a smarter official now, thank you.

I got 1,2,3&4 except#5 my answer is legal but when I summarize player saved the ball is the first to touch the ball as the status of the ball was landing from the backcourt and save it by red player

I got them all except for a slight disagreement with #2. I felt that the player coming across the FT line (#30 ?) started a dribble. His hand met the requirements of the dribble definition (4.15) "a dribble is a ball movement caused by a player in control who bats or pushes the ball to the floor once or several times." I felt he was in control because he dribbled it to avoid the defender's (#5) attempt to gain control of the ball.

It all comes down to whether that one bat of the ball is a dribble or not. Thanks for your input.

I would see this as a bat and not a dribble.

Per rule 4 section 4 there is reference to the ball TOUCHING the backcourt as well as where the player's feet are. In example 4 it was close with the player getting both feet into the frontcourt, but he does appear to lose control of the ball. In the last example however the ball never touches the backcourt so I question if this should be a violation (much the same as a player saving a ball from going out of bounds by jumping and throwing it back in before touching the floor. Am I missing something here?

Rule 4-4-6 - "During a dribble from backcourt to frontcourt, the ball is in the frontcourt when the ball and both feet of the dribbler touch the court entirely in the frontcourt."

I think i. play 1 is considered a backcourt valuation because the last one who touch the ball was the player of the blue team, and the ball goes back to backcourt . So it is a foul , and if it is otherwise, I hope you will inform me of what is correct soon as possible . Thank you.
