There may well be a genetic anomaly come along with the perfect storm of everything needed to blitz a 550kg deadlift, much like Usain bolt was the perfect storm for a sprinter, I don't think his records will ever be beaten, certainly not in my lifetime, and while there may be the odd few kg added to the deadlift before I'm gone, I don't think there will be another quantum leap like when Eddie did the 500 and added 35kg to the max in one sitting.
@peterschmidt145310 ай бұрын
@@paulharper4196 I agree there won't be a quantum leap, it will be "baby" increases from here. But with 2 examples, Hafthor Bjornsson is the other 500 club member at 6ft 9, Usain bolt at 6ft 4. Most world record sprinters are around 6ft, talent scouts were not looking at tall teenagers as future sprint talent, now they will be due to Bolt's success. Strong men have always had big, tall men competing, but even Hafthor is way taller than most. I think he will inspire tall teenagers to consider strong Man, the bigger you are the more muscle potential you have. Plus believing all elite athletes are "clean", they have been chasing drug cheats now for 40 years, it's an arms race with authorities always years behind and future records are always in danger of enhanced performance.
@paulharper419610 ай бұрын
@@peterschmidt1453 I watched a documentary about bolt and they said he was unique in that all sprinters, elite ones anyway, are always short, stocky and very muscular with majority quick twitch muscle fibres. The taller ones are generally more suited to middle and long distance running due to their slimmer frame and predominantly slower twitch fibres. Bolt was something of an anomaly in that he married the best aspects of both, so we had a tall, long striding, slender yet quick twitch dominant guy hence he obliterated all records. Ever notice how out of the blocks he was never the fastest as he lacked the initial explosiveness, but once he got into his stride he glided past the field effortlessly.

That said....I give Eddie credit for the lift, and it was amazing, but Hafthor gets credit as well. The condition of being in a competition is only there so that rules are followed for the legitimacy of the lift. There is nothing special, otherwise. The reason it's so hard to beat Eddie's record isn't because people can't do it, there are guys as strong or stronger than Eddie out there, but it's a matter of really sacrificing your body to train one lift for one rep, and every time you practice a rep of 400kg+ you're risking tearing muscles, injuring your back, knees, having a brain bleed, etc. So, for a lot of these guys who are trying to win WSM and do other things with their career, it's simply not worth the time, dedication and risk to focus on one lift to the point of setting a record. Case in point: Mitch Hooper giving everything here just to get 450kg up past his knees one time. Makarov gassing out so much on his warmup rep that he looked like he needed to go lie down. You basically get one shot every couple of days to do this (provided you're not injured), and have a high chance of being injured in doing it, so you can see why most people just don't bother.

To take a world record you should do it in the same fashion or with less aids as the previous world record holder. If someone does it with no body suit on then if you beat theirs with a body suit it really shouldn't count, maybe a new record with the aid of a body suit. There needs to be rules over this so one guy doesn't have an advantage over another.

That's Powerlifting. This is Strongman. As long as you don't use a forklift or a car jack, the most weight is the most weight 😆

They have different records for different conditions that can influence the outcome. So there's a record doing lifting with gear, and one for lifting without gear.

Whoever is the first to lift weights on the moon will hold the new record and half these idiots will say it counts.

Eddie Hall is the only one to pull 500kg in competition and Thor won the boxing match. Both are true.
@jason723110 ай бұрын
Such ignorance with how many people think 505 is gonna be doable by any of these lifters. And the record belongs to Thor not that poor sport crybaby eddie. Thor kicked his ass in deadlift and then boxing.

And then Eddie Hall does 500kg but nearly died.... goes to show you that these guys are Def stronger....Eddie was SO DRAMATIC...i get it... he was the first... but now that others are doing it and just walk away after they do it, he's probably looking back embarrassed how he milked out so dramatically

makes me wonder if Thor actually lifted it. I still say if it was in an actual competition, he'd never been able to do it
@RageDaug10 ай бұрын
Interesting. I say if it was an actual competition, Thor would have lifted 600KG. Probably the reason why what you and I say having no bearing on reality and who holds the record.
@bobjohnson163310 ай бұрын
No real differences between 500 or 501. You know Eddie could have done it. You're just dishonest and probably have a crush on Thor.
@RageDaug10 ай бұрын
@@bobjohnson1633 Eddy nearly died lifting 500 and was hospitalized for several days following the lift, going temporarily blind. I'm pretty sure 501 would have killed him. Also look up the history of the dead lift records. Most of them are beat by 1-2kg. That's very normal. Eddy, himself, beat previous records by 1-2kg before complaining about Thor beating his latest record by 1kg.
