This week, Oscar explores the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 50th Anniversary Rose Gold 26240OR. Are these 50th Anniversary models future collectibles? The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak was first launched on April 15, 1972, designed by the legendary Gérald Genta. It debuted at the Basel Watch Fair, initially priced the same as a Jaguar XJ6. Despite its high price, it has become one of the world's most sought-after timepieces.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Audemars Piguet released special editions, including the model we have today. This edition features the in-house caliber 4401 movement with a flyback chronograph, column wheel, and visible vertical clutch. The watch boasts a full pink gold design with beautifully contrasted brushed and polished angles. The new pushers and crown guards enhance functionality while maintaining the iconic Royal Oak look. Though it's billed as a 41mm watch, it wears more like a 43mm due to its substantial lug width. The 50th Anniversary rotor and mega tapisserie dial add the final touches to this exceptional piece.
