I loved it when Steve turned around and started interviewing the interviewer, genuinely curious about Kip's process. No ego there. You don't see that often and it was cool to witness. Seeing Steve's reaction to the gift was also touching. Two great minds and artists.

What an amazing interview this is. All three parts are on an otherworldly level. As far as pure content goes, half of it is completely over my head, and still I couldn't stop watching. The spiritual energy between these two gentle giants is inescapable. I've been a huge fan of Vai and Winger since I've first heard them in the early nineties. So glad, they're still around, giving their gift to the world. After hearing this, I truly think Kip Winger might be one of the most underrated musicians on the planet. What a unique genius. And so incredibly humble.

Very thoughtful gift. What more from a friend could anyone ask for to take the time to find what they want. Or to go get what you want and to be able and give it to a friend. I surmise is also a sign of forgiveness.

As a music kid of the 80's I had very specific feelings about the type of music "Winger" played back in the day. We were so foolish and full of ego... It was great getting to know a little bit about Kip in this interview with Steve Vai. One of the best interviews with the legend that I've had the pleasure of watching.

Excellent conversation with Steve Vai, Kip. These 3 parts brought my years of studying music theory flooding back to me. I enjoy listening to musicians who love to compose and know what they're doing not just musically, but compositionally - if that makes sense. Also, your gift to Steve was incredible - so gracious! Thank you so much for sharing this 3-part interview. You're the BEST Kip! 🤗

I'm utterly amazed by the level of insight I'm getting from both interviewer and interviewee! I've been following and studying Steve's music since I started playing guitar. (Considering that he's the one who solidified which instrument I wanted to learn first.) Winger was a band whose sound instantly grabbed me and forced me to take notice. When I found out that Kip grew up just a few miles away from me (he in Golden, me in the Green Mountain area of Lakewood) it only added fuel to my desire to make music. These two incredible musicians are living proof that it's we who define ourselves as musicians/composers not the record labels, the fans, or even the music we make. (Not that anyone should alienate their fans.) The music we make is merely a reflection of a small snapshot of who we are at various times in our lives combined with the experiences we've had, and just a little bit of "let's try this and see what happens".

Two musical geniuses talking shop, very interesting. The more I see and hear about Steve Vai, the more I like him. He’s amazing! I think most people know about Steve Vai’s varied musical interests, but it’s very cool to hear about Kip’s as well. Also, I think Steve was really moved by the gift of the letter from Kip and seeing his reaction was very uplifting. Kip is doing a great job with these interviews and I’m very much looking forward to the next one. Kip, I’ll be seeing you again Saturday night in Beaver Dam, KY. Should be a great show with lots of great bands playing in addition to Winger.

Thank you Kip for this very insightful interview. As a composer there is so much in there to unpack which I find insightful and relatable. If anyone is interested, I tried to translate the contents of the letter. The names of the people mentioned are likely wrong but the handwriting isn't the easiest to read (and the language is a little more archaic than what I'm used to): Dear sir, I thank you for the card addressed to Sabedo which I handed to Capt Hart. The man, who must have written to you, is terribly surprised that you have not received one of his long letters sent several weeks ago, as well as a report on the summer season and the announcement of the new [shows] which will take place this winter. Attached is our pamphlet. You will note that we are working hard. I (can't make out word here) to you the list of names and addresses or people likely to be interested in the magazine and to subscribe to it. When the time comes, I shall take care of a concert in Paris, a project we have sketched together and which I will keep you informed about. On your end, do not leave me without news and keep me informed of the happenings of Paris. My respectful compliments to Madame Prunières and my best wishes to Monsieur Creucoy(?) Yours truly Edgar Varèse

I always thought great musicians spend more time erasing what isn't needed, rather than thinking of what more you can add. Steve always sounds like he's content with anything he puts on a record. It's deliberate even if it was a long journey that started off as a stroll in the park.

Amazing interview Kip thank you! You and Steve are two of my favorite artists. At 55 years old I recently took up painting, and I find it so interesting that the creative process is the same no matter what the medium. My instructor and fellow artists have countless conversations about manifesting and requesting from the universe, putting it out there and then surrendering to the process. It’s out there for all of us, the key is being open to it. Thank you both for your insight on the creative process. Loved it!
