I love my Australorp chickens. At present. I have 3 hens, one of which no longer lays but because of their sweet personality, they will be kept as pets for as long as they live. They are black, including legs and skins and meat and are wonderful layers. Their black plumage has an iradsecent green and purple to it. They have red wattles and combs. I've had other breeds but this my favorite for their brown eggs and their funny character. At present, they are named Myrtle (the oldest), Tallulah and Tonya. I live in the Sonoran desert of Arizona in Tucson where backyard chickens are legal. This wonderful breed from Australia is a favorite because they tolerate the hot summers here better than most breeds.

Yes, yours are very beautiful! However, I'm OBSESSED with the Ayam Cemani! ALL BLACK, THROUGH and THROUGH. From beak to bone and organs, too. They are my 'wish' chickens!! People underestimate how intelligent chickens are. Wish more people knew that they make great pets AND that they can be potty trained. Oh, well! More for us to love, right??

0:23 Exactly when and where the chicken was domesticated remains a controversial issue. Genomic studies estimate that the chicken was domesticated 8,000 years ago in South East Asia and spread to China and India 2000-3000 years later. Archaeological evidence supports domestic chickens in Southeast Asia well before 6000 BC, China by 6000 BC and India by 2000 BC.

Re: pronunciation of 'Ceylon': Very good video! Just one thing, I'm from Sri Lanka, it's interesting how, in just 2 generations since our independence, much of the English-speaking world has forgotten how to say 'Ceylon'. It was pronounced sill-LON, with the 1st syllable rhyming with 'will', and the emphasis on the 2nd syllable (not CY-lon, or SAY-lon). Very few people younger than 50 years old know how to pronounce 'Ceylon' properly
@CarrieGerenScogginsOfficial2 жыл бұрын
I have seen people tying flies, to fish with, but did not realize that they were using tiny feathers from roosters and chickens. I would add, that the bird of paradise has nothing on these chickens, of which were also from the islands. Familiarity breeds contempt, sad that the chicken, what was a beautiful wild island bird, is now treated as the lowly.
