Tree Of Life Clue #1 From Cotton Cuts Puzzle Mystery Quilt

It is super easy to get started with the PMQ. All you need to do is select a color way that strikes your fancy, select a finished quilt size, set up how you would like to pay and you're all set! They have limited quantities of each color available and will flag when we are getting short on certain colors. Also, if giving as a gift, please select the color wheel your quilter will like to ensure they reserve the fabric for them. The “Small” size project will finish 48”x60” and will cost $19.50 per month. The “Large” size project will finish 72”x72” and will cost $29.50 per month. Or you can prepay up front and receive all the pieces by mail with the instructions sent to you by email. The small cost $192.50 when prepaying and the large is $295.00.

This is my first quilt project. I was assembling clue 1 tonight and my alignment was off on step 2. I left it wonky since it wasn’t super obvious unless you really looked at it but and I knew it was there so it bothered me that it wasn’t perfect. You Made me smile when you said “Finished is always better than perfect”. Thank you Ian! 😊

I’ve made a quilt where one of the half-square triangles in the middle of the quilt was flipped. I didn’t notice until I’d finished, quilted and bound the darned thing! 😂 It didn’t matter. Still was a cute baby quilt, and was a perfect gift for my friend’s second baby. It was made for the kids to sit on while playing in the living room, so it was just perfect for that!

First time doing the PMQ and so happy to have a video to see as a guide. I chose Tranquil in the large block and it just arrived today. I have a feeling the name doesn't always correspond to the quilt designs though after seeing some. I'm sure it will be great anyway but I was going for an actual Tree of Life ....tree type quilt. 😂 Surprise is on me, we shall see.

Glad you liked my video. You’re right! The name of the quilt doesn’t always indicate what it’s gonna look like but a lot of times the colorways fit a color scheme. It’s a lot of fun though, because you never know exactly what it’s gonna look like, and it’s always such a surprise at the end. I absolutely love it!

The small quilt clues are different from the large quilt (just an fyi). Also, any helpful ideas on storage/organization of the clues would be helpful. Do some of you just fold them up and put them in their original bags? Do you have a binder where you put them in clear plastic page protectors? Design board? What are people’s favorite ideas for keeping each clue labeled and organized? Chime in and let me know - this is my first PMQ! I don’t use facebook or I’d ask there, so any helpful tips you all have would be great. 😊

You are correct, large and small clues do look different. I put my clues in a 12x12 craft storage box. Fits everything nicely.

Hey Ian, just got my first clue the other day. I'm only doing the small one. I got different color thread than you and I'm doing the same colorway, Radiance. I'm also not really sure what to use the thread for. I typically piece with aurifil 2600, which was the large spool. Anyway, thats a little longwinded... 😆 🤣 😂 thoughts on the thread? Loved the video. ❤ this is my first mystery quilt. Only been quilting since December. 🦄🙂

Some people use the thread for other projects, while others use the thread to quilt their quilt. Totally up to you and you can do whatever you want to with it. I plan on using the thread for other projects.

Yes, the large and small clues are different.

Do they use accuquilt to cut the pieces or is it handcut? Do you ever get a piece that doesnt fit/wasnt cut correctly?

They use an Accuquilt and so far I have not received a piece that didn’t fit. If you ever have a problem, though, reach out to them at [e-mail].
