I have never heard streamers talk about parasocial relationships like Toast and Rae just did. They explained it in a very level headed way. They know that's parasocial relationships are unhealthy but they also recognise that these people need help and support. I liked how toast said he wanted people to go out and form relationships instead of all ways watching his content. I don't know I just feel like streamers can be so negative around this topic but I feel like they handled it really well.

A lot of streamers can become really apathetic when it comes to this matter. Imagine everyday getting messages of people you DON'T KNOW telling you how much they love you and they're sorry that they're going to "unalive" themselves, it must be hella hard to handle all of that constantly..

As a person who turned 30 last year and the same age as Toast and Rae, it's stuff like this podcast, the Vlogs, the gaming streams/vids, the 100Thieves ownership, etc. that will make streamers last longer on all the platforms. The concept of a multimedia approach to a brand, as many of these streamers are progressing to now is the way to prolong one's career. Careers, in general, require genuine reanalysis, adaptation, and flexibility. As in anything, once you stay stagnant, the world moves forward without you. This is why OfflineTV, Valkyrae, KZbinrs dabbling in gaming, etc. do well. It's constant exposure to a wider audience, leading to more eyes on their other content and keeping the brand relevant.

OMG THIS i really believe that if your whole life is fixated on making money and you arent financially stable youre really doing something wrong of course something could go terribly wrong like an investment you had high hopes in or something but a lot of people are really just at a middle stage where they arent financially stable enough to splurge they can just afford their needs and they dont ever grow from that its all about the things you said: genuine reanalysis, adaptation, and flexibility not just settling with one plan forever

Because FB can offer a better deal. No matter if she likes her place on KZbin, if Facebook offer her better terms she'll go to Facebook. It's not even about the money, at this point I'm sure it's near the bottom of her requirements, but things like hours streamed, exclusivity terms, communication, self-worth, collab opportunities, content opportunities (would the platform help produce and/or diffuse cool ass content), etc... Like she said in this interview she has a following on every platform and her options are open no matter what. I feel like she could have been to FB because the platform is EXTREMELY MORE permissive than Twitch and KZbin. If FB were focusing on this part she could maybe see the potential in it and look at the offer in a more solid light. But thank god she didn't go for them, hate the platform.

The live game-watching experience format works. At PAX, they have the Omegathon where when you buy a ticket to attend PAX you can opt in to being selected to take part, and it's basically just a tournament of these "omeganauts" playing games until one of them remains and is declared the winner. Sometimes the games aren't even head-to-head but based on best scores. They do both video games and board games. If that format is successful, then one with known, popular streamers will definitely be successful. Plus there can be other things like musical interludes with Lily, cooking segments, audience participation.

I think the idea that older people can't be streamers hasn't really been tested. People tend to get into new things when they're younger and they're going to prefer streamers the same age as them. Are those people going to stop watching streamers as they get older? Are they going to always want to watch young twenty somethings over people they maybe have more in common with? I don't know, but I don't think you can judge based on things that are happening now. It's like assuming we'll all grow out of video games because there are few elderly gamers. Like, maybe in some cases, but elderly people who don't play games currently probably never played them at any point in their lives.

There are absolutely 40 year old streamers. Many of them are people who were in their 30s back when they were doing gaming on KZbin, especially when Machinima and other MCNs was one of the only ways for KZbinrs to make money. If we're talking about content creators who started on streaming platforms, then maybe the numbers get smaller, but they do still exist.

@@evelynd9240 Ya i don't think a lot of streamers even know they owe alot to the youtube gamers in the mid 2000s. I think it would be interesting if somehow disguised toast got Seananners, Hutch or Mr Sark on the podcast to talk about early days or youtube and twitch gaming.

@@bumpin0 Exactly, and while people like Nanners weren't the faces of games like League or Hearthstone, which were the communities that Scarra and Lily and Toast came up in, the work (and failures) of Machinima and the creators they signed were what paved the way for gaming as a career in the content creation world. Sometimes I click off podcasts within 29 seconds, but this episode was very energetic and interesting. I see a lot of Roguelite/Roguelike games getting a lot of viewership (at least on YT), it has a lot of replayability, because it's more about trying new things than 'solving' it, though it doesn't really have the interactive aspect with other streamers that made League, Fortnite and Among Us so popular. A few have tried to do multiplayer, but haven't been a hit so far, but it feels like something that adds just one weird special element (like fortnite building) could be the next game.

I feel like the only reason why most hardcore viewers ‘love’ Toast’s or any streamer’s content is not because they just really enjoy the stream. Its mostly due to how they literally have nothing going on in their life. When you make friends and hangout with them, its going to be funner than watching a stream.
