In this video, my dad and I tackle the Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway in Kentucky. The loop is nearly 100 miles. Along Spaas Creek road, my dad unfortunately takes some body damage. Part two coming soon!

All the body damage could have been avoided. You should have used your jeeps winch with snatch block to pull your dad's jeep rear end up and away from the tree. Than using his winch in tandem with your winch slowly moving him forward and away from the tree. Just some advise for the next time.

Interesting idea! I thought of doing this, but I figured if we pulled him and forwards, and then released the winch, he would just slide back down. But who knows, could have worked

Thanks for posting. It's not easy to put yourself out there for the Monday morning quarterbacks. I agree with two winches (front and rear) from the get go. You would have been pulled mostly sideways, away from the tree. Very much enjoyed the father/son adventure....it cost pride and money, but I would give an arm for another day with my Dad.

The body damage is at 16:53. I've done this trail a few times, that part is realllly slick! I started to go that way once, felt it get slippery, then reversed out and picked a new way. Love the 4K video quality!

Double snatch block. One in front then over to tree in rear to rear bumper. His winch would have pulled Jeep straight away from tree for clearance.😉 Always Hurts to watch body damage in slow motion. Enjoyed the video though. 👍👍

Oh no, don't cut down the trees. I hope it was dead already. I know how easily things can go wrong, but you guys need more knowledge on recovery and your vehicles, for when things go wrong.

Take your time. Had you given yourself more time to think clear, you may have figured it out.

Just a bit of editing advice. Don't just drop a song in the bits where you're not talking and then hit export or upload. Make sure your audio levels aren't all over the placed. It goes from you guys talking and the volume is kind of low then it immediately goes into really loud music. It makes the video nearly unwatchable. I had to constantly turn my volume up and down to compensate otherwise I either couldn't hear you or risked blowing a speaker.

Really appreciate the transparency of all the mistakes made. Great to see you with your Dad out there, but hope this video really shows the novice the importance of knowing how to recover the jeep when in a jam. Without sounding like a smarty pants, I agree with the other comments about the snatch block, using your jeep to help pull the back. Additionally, pulling on the bumper ends was also not the safest thing to do. So many rookie mistakes but good for others to learn from your mistakes. Also you kept referring to your jeeps as "cars". Not the correct language for a jeeper. Please hang in there and keep learning, maybe take some more experienced folks along for future rides, but most importantly BE SAFE. Recovery can kill you. Even something as simple as when your dad stepping out of the jeep and slipping straight down into the rut could have been serious. Imagine him snapping a leg, ankle, or worse and having to deal with that. Again, not trying to be a wise guy here just hoping others will understand the lessons to learn here. God Bless you guys and our entire jeeple population.
