I was a trainer in the Army. I was a recovery specialist and taught people how to self recover and recover others. It was difficult to teach some people the concept of snatch blocks and leverage. Some people came to it easier. I set up a training exhibition where I find the smallest guy in the group and show everyone how he could move a 5 ton wrecker by hand by himself. That got people interested in what I was trying to teach them. I have a 3500 lb harbor freight winch mounted on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have amazed people at what I could move with just the power of that little wench. Just takes gear, math and a little time. Good job with your effort. Excellent proof of concepts.

Good job there demonstrating proper rigging for recovery. The Army had a acronym when doing a recovery. Back in 80s recovery of wheeled and tracked vehicles was required skill as 11B for S.Q.T. I got to use them many times with M35a2 and Humvee's. To many people don't use equipment correctly. Snatch block doubles winch capability minus 10% loss in each sheave due to friction loss. This gives a safety factor. Nice to see a recovery slide ruler used for planning.👍 First time watching your channel and now a new sub. Great getting to see people doing the right way, not snatching to point of breaking #### "like many down in your neck of woods do" too.
@matt.mckinzie2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we try to do it with math and correct rigging Which make for slow boring pulls but we want everything safe and everyone to go home Too many injuries due to full sends and no control with a rope and skinny pedal
@tomwilliams86752 жыл бұрын
You're a smart man. You know your rigging. I'd like to see more "so called" recovery channels take a lesson from you. They think snapping a vehicle out of a stuck position is more impressive than proper rigging. The power of the pulley.

Thank you. The reason the other guys do the yanking is because it’s cooler and get more views We have done more complex jobs with a baby jeep then anyone I’ve seen on the internet but our videos are slow controlled winching which is boring to most people They wanna see 7000 rpm’s tires spinning yanking and stuff flying

@dodgeme1986truck6 ай бұрын
@@dont-want-no-wrench I had liquid ballasted ag tires on the tractor (each rear tire weights 125LBS), factory diff locker, and plenty of force multiplication (snatch blocks doubling my pulling force I believe there was 3 on the container hooked to the bottom closest corner and 4 to fixed anchor points with the ends of the cable attached to the container and the garden tractor)... Definitely helped that I attached some 2x12x10 boards with the ends tapered as skids under the container ends as that just stopped the container from sinking in the wet blue clay as we had rain for a week straight prior to the pull on my 40ft high cube...

If you had the HEMMT wrecker you probably could have just picked the front of the truck up with the boom and swung it over off of the stump. Those vehicles were the Swiss Army knives of wreckers. It is amazing what they are capable of in the right hands. I almost got an article 15 because I told a company commander No when he asked me to do something stupid. He ordered one of my guys to try and lift an APC with it. I told my guy absolutely not and get off of the vehicle and shut it down. The company commander was PO. Ordered me to do it and I refused and even told him why. I told my Chief and he gave me a transfer form and said transfer the Wrecker into the Company commanders control and then do what he says with one caveat. Use the remote control for the boom and take it to maximum flex before shutting it down. When the boom starts to bend and the load doesn't budge it is on the Company Commander for damaging million Dollar equipment. The boom flexed and he got scared and yelled shut it down. He then walked away. The Chief personally went and transferred the wrecker back into our possession and chewed out the Commander for putting his guys in danger and wrote him up. Sergeant

When we were kids building fence for horses and cattle we would use a block and tackle to stretch fence.

Very nice job of rigging to get that heavy beast unstuck and out of its almost grave. I wasn't aware that Florida was suffering from such a water shortage that the lovely Gladiator can't get a bath...

My first time on this channel and I see an amazing recovery, pulling a military truck out of where it has sit stuck for three years. And it was pulled out by a little Jeep and a winch. Amazing use of shackles to increase the pulling power of the winch booked to the little Jeep. The man knew his equipment and his abilities.
