Should have covered the most lopsided trade of the season - The Bulls sending the pick for Jordan Bell to the Warriors for $3 million dollars. Bell played real minutes in the finals, while the Bulls just got some money. A cool thing to look at is to take a team's salary for the year and divide it by the number of wins they had. The teams that paid the least per win are usually your top contenders.
@kipkame6 жыл бұрын
You're right, that was a lopsided trade but I was focusing on the bigger ones. As for the amount of money per win, I believe that the 2016 Cavs are probably an outlier in that
@bobdole49166 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, last I checked it was the Warriors, Rockets, and Celtics that were paying the least per win.
@SuperMarkHere6 жыл бұрын
Bob Dole interesting stat but doesn’t always show that much cuz most teams have relatively close total salaries (except for a few outliers) and better teams just win more so they will have lower cost per win
@bobdole49166 жыл бұрын
Warriors - $137,494,845 Mavericks - $85,904,490 I'd call a difference of over $50 million not so close - relatively or otherwise. That's the top and bottom payroll in the league. You say "outliers" except it isn't true. There's steps going from that top to the bottom without any massive jumps. The biggest gap between any two consecutive payrolls is only about $7 million - between the Heat and the Wizards. Warriors paid $1,858,038.45 per win including the playoffs. Mavericks paid $3,579,353.75 per win and didn't make the playoffs. The Cavs had almost the exact same payroll as the Warriors (their's was about $130,000 less), but the Cavs paid $2,215,527.55 per win. It's a way to show you which teams are spending their money wisely, and which teams are just spending money.
@ankledrew81506 жыл бұрын
Bob Dole I wash triggered back then. I didn't like the warriors and I liked Bell. I thought the Bulls office was trash and extremely stupid for doing that.
@Bulletproof_246 жыл бұрын
This is awesome. It's easy to call GMs stupid after the long run results while ignoring the fact that initial reactions called these same people geniuses. Can you do one on the infamous nets/celtics deal that is now called the worst ever? Or am i the only one who remembers that ALOT of people at the time thought the nets won it?
@bpdmf27986 жыл бұрын
Amir Yousry people thought the nets won it because idiots couldn't see that by the time the draft picks turned it players, the nets would suck because their players were old. Idiots valued 1 or 2 years of maybe contention over a decade of depth and high drafting. Imagine if the Celtics tanked also and got the top 2 picks in a few drafts in a row, and even though they didn't they still got a ton of talent. I'll take a decade of Tatum over a year of Garnett any day of the week.
@kipkame6 жыл бұрын

I thought that Nets team was gonna win the championship lol they had so much hype. And that was when they first moved to Brooklyn and had Jay-Z promoting them. I legit thought they were about to become a dynasty.
@Chris-fl8lv6 жыл бұрын
BPD MF as a Nets fan I’ve looked into that trade many, many times and I watched it go down live and it was all caused by Billy King worried about Dwill leaving Brooklyn and the Nets after their big move wouldn’t have any big names. King missed out on the Dwight Howard trade and got scared that he would lose Williams to free agency and traded their pick for Gerald Wallace (pick ended up being Lillard). The Nets then have Dwill devin Harris Wallace Humphries and Lopez. The Nets then traded for Joe Johnson, while the trade itself wasn’t bad and I loved him as a player they took on a huge contract which limited them in free agency and had to make moves with trades. The Nets scrambled to win a championship after being the 3 or 4 seed in 2013 and Billy King frightend of missing out on another Dwight Howard deal pulled the trigger to get Paul Piece KG and Jason terry for the picks. While many people say that trade “ruined” the Nets it helped them. If you look at King as a GM he was self destructive and let’s say he didn’t make the trade he would still have his job and the Nets would have an incompetent GM. Sean Marks is a top 5 GM and before you call me crazy just look at who he’s drafted with what he has and how the team has turned from an aging team with no assets to an upcoming team that now owns the rights to its 1st round picks after this draft

Good stuff, but those trades didn't change anything: Before the trades-Everyone knew the Warriors would win the ring After the trades-Everyone knew the Warriors would win the ring The same team still came in 2nd. Not a lot changed. Lebron changing teams this off season is going to make more impact than last year's trades.
@matth24206 жыл бұрын
HarpoSpoke the kyrie Irving trade changed a lot of things for the long run. Now, the Cavs are going to be rebuilding again and the Celtics now have a star pg to go along with their core
@HarpoSpoke6 жыл бұрын
Maybe in the long run and maybe not. The Cavs are always in rebuild mode because they are a terrible organization. They lucked into Lebron and got one ring out of that. ...Pretty pathetic. The Heat threw a team together on the fly and got 2 rings with him in 4 years. Who knows if Kyrie will even be with the Celtics next year or if he will be healthy. He gets hurt a LOT. If I were the Celtics and had a chance to get Lebron and/or Leonard....Kyrie is on his way to San Antonio.
@jacrispy97826 жыл бұрын
If Kyrie and Hayward weren't injured the Celtics would of made the finals the Warriors would of still won though
@chenney21906 жыл бұрын
The same team didn't come in second. The rockets did. The cavs were the easiest opponent the Warriors faced in the playoffs.
@HarpoSpoke6 жыл бұрын
We know the WCF was the real Finals, but it doesn't work that way officially. It still came down to Warriors/Cavs. Hopefully Lebron leaves the Cavs so we know it will be different next year. That "if Kyrie wasn't injured" is one we've heard before. That happens to him a lot. I wouldn't base a franchise's hopes around that guy.

One trade that didn't get much attention: Lakers traded D'Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov the Nets in exchange for Brook Lopez and Celtics 2017 1st round pick, the 27th pick, which became Kyle Kuzma. There's a good chance that Nets get D'Angelo to the potential all-star shooter that the Lakers wanted but we will wait and see. However the Lakers were able to get Mozgov's contract off the picks to prepare the Lakers have large salary cap in 2018 NBA off-season and Kuzma seems like one of the steals in NBA Draft by making it on all NBA First Rookie Team.

I am always sooo surprised that people never talk about the potential trouble that the Rockets can be in. Sure CP3 trade was great, THIS YEAR, but if they can't sign him, or even if they do give him a Max Contract, they will need to pick up another Superstar and it will be VERY difficult to sign Capella to a Max Contract too! Team might be broken up. But it's still possible they can work something out. We'll have to see.

I don't think Timberwolves got what they hoped. They went all in to become title contenders as soon as possible and saw KAT, Butler, Wiggins as their big 3, but Wiggins and Butler couldn't work together, Wiggins had his worst offensive season, not only his per game numbers went down, he got less efficient. And finally they ended up as 8th seed. I know Butler was injured for some time, but other playoff teams of the west had big injuries as well and overall I don't see Timberwolves as contenders anytime soon. And they gave up young talent. If their goal was to get to the playoff, good for them, but I think they wanted more.
