Hey Pete, I was a Hurricane Katrina diaspore living in Arvada for a while (loved that $229 season pass at Copper!), so this topic has me even more interested than I usually am with your content. I've been back in Louisiana since then, and am about to build the strongest house I can possibly can (Certified Fortified, Gold Tier), at a place that is at currently at about the 120 mph contour. What I wonder is all the talk of putting offshore windmills in the Gulf, but can they be built to survive 180-mph Cat-6 storms (yes, we will see a new super-category) that are in our future? As for offshore oil, obviously you know that it is a sunset industry, with the oil companies determining that it's no longer worth the full life-cycle cost - and only keeping the existing rigs going as they slowly sip out the oil there. Oh, and when are you going to do a video on the exploding pagers? :)

@mariomenezes1153Ай бұрын
Technically true, but it depends on their actuarial calculations. Just like your automobile and life insurance. Their bet is that, based on their calculations, they get more in premiums than they have to pay out. If any unforeseen event happens, calculation is turned on its head. They could alternatively charge extra high premiums all the time to cover for such catastrophic damage but that would hurt us even more. We have to remember that they are a business and not a charity. And when their calculation is incorrect, the "extra high premium" comes into effect to keep their business going.

Insurance costs aren't going up because hurricanes are bigger and stronger (they're not), but because so many people are now living where they hit. Eg, the worst decade for hurricanes in FL was the 1930's, but today more people live within the city limits of Miami (technically MetroDade) than lived in the entire state back then. Over in TX, the 1910 floods literally joined the Colorado and Brazos rivers outside Houston into a single 30-mile wide flow. But only about 250K people lived in metro Houston then, versus about 7.35M today.

Hurricanes are the least of the oil industry's worries right now. Oil consumption in CHINA, (remember them?) has slumped to the tune of about 10%. "Why is this a big deal?" I hear people ask. Well, China is the planet's largest importer of oil, and oil products, so any sort of slowdown in their demand is a serious blow to the industry. You're the strategist, so tell us the ramifications of a serious drop in oil demand at a time of increasing production.
@JD..........Ай бұрын
I'm no strategist but if you'll have me, energy demand worldwide should see a steady climb over the long term. Expect temporary shocks as we struggle to survive modernity.
@MylifebehindthecameraАй бұрын

They already get most of their oil from the Middle East, it won't affect us nearly as much as the Saudis.

I'd expect lower gas prices, but corporate greed would never allow that. Notice every time oil goes up in price, so do gas prices. But when oil prices go down, gas prices stay the same. And when the quarter is done these oil companies report record profits.
@clarencebennett3624Ай бұрын
The main culprit is the lack of refineries to produce more gasoline, diesel and home heating oil. As more and more drivers of ICE vehicles fill out highways we need more fuel to support the demand. As demand increases and supply low aha price increases, to fix it increase supply but not possible when you're at Mac capacity and no one wants a new fuel refinery in their neighborhood just as the folks in Palo Alto.@@Alexadria205

Net exporter. So why did President Biden drain the Strategic petroleum Reserve to its loweest levels since 1980 ?? Glad to hear about natural gas. The A,I. and data centerrevolution is going to need tens of megawatts. Think Gigawatts of power. That may be replaced by better equipment so do not take the graph out more than ten years.

Future generations needing oil? I thought we were being told by the Democrats that petroleum will be phased out by 2035?

Can the next generation afford to continue using oil and gas as energy sources? Isn't this what's causing an increase in all of these storms? Let's be real, what's our future like if we continue using the fossil fuels that are heating our planet and destroying the future for the generations to come?

The govt in Saudi did cloud seeding for rain sucked it out of Africa where the storms form into the Atlantic. Hence no big named storms. Germany and France been seeding clouds in the Atlantic as of last week.

With all this oil, crude and refined product, why is "drill baby drill" still a campaign topic. We seem to be set if I am hearing him correctly. BTW, just filled up my car for $2.95/gallon in the high tax state of Connecticut. Drove past Costco and its $2.89/gallon. Also, on an inflation adjusted basis, gas really hasn't broken the bank over the past 10 to 15 years.

Gas prices will always go up and down, but over time, slightly more up than down. So if you build campaign slogans around gas prices, it will generally resonate over time. I also remember when I could fill my LTD with gas at $1.78/gallon, so there is always the people who don’t understand the time value of money. 😂

Why don’t you unsubscribe and find your valued politicos elsewhere. So emotional for the so called stoic rational voter. Zeihan a bush senior Republican he doesn’t care about social media, he doesn’t care about your vibes and feelings only geopolitics. Most of the rational people do also but go on and push your dollar devaluation, dumb 10% tariffs on everyone, no income tax policies. You do not live in the modern world of fiat currency and proper industrial policies. Your too emotional

Somehow gas prices are still super high. Why are gas prices in NV still over $4?
@TexasRiverRat31254Ай бұрын
Because your gas comes from Cali where it's a "special" formula that costs more to produce. Plus you don't have any refineries so you're stuck with whatever you can get. Buy a Prius and stop complaining!
