Interesting comments, mostly bs... The world cup is won in a world cup final, not the semis not the quarters. SA might not play the kind of rugby you appreciate but in world cup finals they are 3 from 3. Enough said.

From start to finish how the Springboks played in the semis and quarters was planned. In the build up to the final in the last week the Springbok management encouraged media coverage of their "boring", "same-old" style of rugby. While, at the same time their plan was vastly different. Watch Chasing the Sun - England didn't stand a chance.

Listen to the lady "do we have the size of man?"... Wales played to reach a final, we played to make sure we're in the final... huge difference. But you wouldn't know anything about that because you're not used to knockout footy so I can understand your frustrations I suppose. Remember, we as South Africans fire coaches for what would be the equivalent of your greatest achievements. Don't forget we have yet to lose a WC final. Everybody said what they're were going to do to the Springboks until that whistle went. Then you have back it up and actually play. Pre-match: Japan's Chery Blossoms "Ferraris", Wales "we're going to match them physically" and England "we're going to play fearlessly". Go and listen to the post-match presentations. What you should be mentioning is the fact that you guys did a lot of your talking when it didn't matter, Rassie on the other hand preferred to do the bulk of the talking post-match. You have a culture of winning everything besides what actually matters, we have a culture of winning everything that matters, including all the collisions, excuse the pun. Well done to all the rugby nations.

I'm quite astonished. I've so enjoyed your discussions and commentry over the last couple of months. And I've been eagerly awaiting your panel review of the final match. But the back handed compliments about South African rugby have just astounded me. The way something so positive can be spun as a negative by Alan amazes me. I certainly don't want you to love South African rugby but can't you be a little bit more positive about the way SA play? I may be a bit ancient but I think a team that wins the Rugby Championship and the world cup in the same year is not going to suddenly lose to new Zealand or England next week because they are less talented, able or skillful. Do you? Have you not seen all the South Africans being snapped up by overseas national teams in the last decade or so? We love that, but please stop saying that because SA won the world cup it could put rugby back a few years. I think that is very disrespectful. I love Irish rugby (love watching the Cheetahs & Kings playing against Irish teams that are new to me) and I wish they had turned up at the world cup, but South Africa were also many people's (dark horse) favorites coming into the tournament. Isn't this also good for rugby? To have one of the powerhouses in world rugby back to their best and playing the way they absolutely should. No one else has to play that way. The AB's certainly don't and they continue to have the edge over SA, most of the time. Louise is honest, truthful and gracious about both finalists but Alan seems to believe SA were just lucky. That beating Wales, the current 6 nations champions was not relevant enough to mention. That beating Japan doesn't count because it was easier than beating Australia (who practically threw away their quarter final). That playing concervative rugby is somehow a bad thing when this is the world cup, isn't it? Somehow, teams have to make it to the final and still have enough to play their best game. I also don't think it's fair to paint the whole team with the same brush as dopers, racists etc. The media is fickle and out for a great story that will sell. Perhaps this SA team are to be lauded for being able to deal with all these negative pressures and to still perform. It comes down to your paradigm. The glass through which you are looking. I still love your show and will definitly keep watching. You have great, intelligent content. You certainly don't have to please this small South African voice. I just hope you can hear me because I think some of what has been said has put a charming spin (but still a spin) on the truth.

"once upon a time, there were 3 brothers in Japan from the SH, 2 of them were beaten badly by a pom, thus they were eliminated from their journey. The pom was celebrating as if he was a god, but one thing he did not know, is that, there was the last remaining third brother, grinding through the criticism around him, hunting the pom who destroyed his brothers and claimed to be above his older brother named Abs. There was pure determination in his eyes, he believed in himself as his brothers Abs and Aus also believed in him to restore their beloved SH nation, but the world gave bok no hope, they saw him as a loser, they praised the Pom for 6 days for his incredible victory over Abs, they enjoyed it while it lasted. Then bok arrived to face the Pom the god, the Pom was overconfident to eliminate all the bloodline of the SH. Well from the first minute of their fight until the last, bok dominated Pom the god and destroyed him to pieces, he brought Pom back to earth, and restored the SH nation. While the Pom and the critics, were swallowed into their hype."

the size disparity is a myth. the Boks have similar sized players to most other teams. its the style of play - the culture and physicality that's natural to the SA game that stands apart. SA players are more accustomed to playing at that intensity and physicality for longer. There are some physical specimens in the pack, but Beast for instance, is not a massive guy... Also, the Wales game - I feel SA played somewhat within themselves, knowing it wasn't the big one... the game plan of both teams reflect that they were playing 'not to loose' the game... pnt is, that if SA played Wales like they played Eng...

@StevenBenjaminAuthor
@StevenBenjaminAuthor 5 жыл бұрын
@@mateypotatey6362 you misunderstand me. I'm referring to physicality. NZ play a high tempo game, speed - 2sec ruck etc... That's a different kind of intensity; they purposefully avoid contact and look for space. The Boks play looking to dominate the contact area, they enjoy the physical confrontation more than other teams... That's what I mean when I say playing at that intensity. Everyone lifts their game when playing the All Blacks, but in a different way, everyone also 'lifts' when playing the Boks, to meet/match the physicality levels. Its true that the final 15min was an issue for the Boks - last year. Other teams would run the ball looking to tire out the big men, which has worked. But it's less of a factor now, esp 2019. Rassie has worked on their conditioning, + favouring the 6-2 bench to manage the Boks forwards workload. I could write more, but basically the type of intensity the Boks play, there's bound to be more injuries down the line, but Boks play with that physical intensity in every game (has its pros and cons) NZ are the trend setter. The Boks being in the final is a major turnaround. I was hoping for a NzvSa final, but NZ failed to make the date. Anyway, makes the RC games btw these 2 in 2020 very interesting

@simphiwemhlongo4974
@simphiwemhlongo4974 5 жыл бұрын
The analysis was biased against South Africa. The emphasis kept on being on the physicality of the South Africans and the skill set of the English team. The narrative ,to me, is that of South Africa having the brawn and England the brains. A country can win the world cup three times (2019, 2007, 1995) and be second only to New Zealand for achieving this historical feat but the pundits still insist that Ireland has a better skill set than South Africa. How many Rugby World finals has Ireland ever been in? I have no intention of being disrespectful to the Irish but in all fairness all countries, especially South Africa, take their lead from New Zealand when it comes to world rugby. South Africa's biggest and best archrival is New Zealand and South Africa hopes to reach their level because they are the gold standard of world rugby in terms of high level performance as the most consistent team in the world. When it comes to banter and being made fun of Australia takes a swipe at us and New Zealand, but on a much lesser extent, who overall I've always gotten a sense that they give us much more respect as their rivals even in matches where they have demolished us. The New Zealand team has class and acts as gentlemen before and after its matches and does not look down on South Africa as a fellow World Cup Champions. The mutual respect that exists among the Southern hemisphere teams, for me, just seems to be lacking or even non-existent when it comes to Northerners respecting the Southerners. Maybe NZ being the exception. This post-match analysis attests to this intolerant that is prevalent up North. This backlash against South Africa is unfairly malicious in this discussion. Then to top it off they started going on about the drug culture of doping in South Africa. I don't know how prevalent that problem is but the negativity is appalling and it is as if they were on a mission to find all sorts of reasons to tarnish our image as a World Cup winning nation who were definitely not favoured to win and now from the last commentator's perspective South Africa's victory was undeserved. Criticism is warranted when the situation calls for it. This hatred of a country and being undermined like this just smacks of sour grapes because the media made the repetitive mistake it has always made when it comes to its national teams it builds them up into Gods and when they fail it is first in line to destroy them.

Say it loud and proud my fellow South African 😁😁😁😁😁. I personally don't hate any country, its peopel or culture. But I have watched a couple of Irish show's now over a year since we won the world cup. Its seems to me the Irish pundits simply hate the fact that an African country has won the World cup three time's in the process equaling New Zealand. They hate it that their own team who they view superior in EVERYWAY cant even reach a semi final. Not even the English were making up excuses or call themselves better. They accepted they were out played and our pedigree as a Rugby union nation always comes forward. Seriously almost every pundit from the UK congratulated us genuinely, beside most Irish pundits. This win was no fluke and getting to three finals and winning all three is no fluke it takes serious talent and skill not just muscle. New Zealand, Australia and England will agree to that and even France who as been to finals. The day will come when Ireland does win the World cup, no South African will be making excuses or saying that Ireland was not talented or skilled enough. Everyone will be saying that you guys deserve the title.

What rassie has done in his time there is outstanding. Plus they targeted England's two weakest players , youngs and daly, to great effect. Amazing performance and have been on form all year . Poor, rich, educated, black, white and so on. The story of Siya and Mampimpi is about a sport giving people who had nothing, hope. An opportunity to play and feel a sense of worth. A chance not only to provide for your family but do this playing against the best athletes in the world. That is what makes their stories powerful. This opinion I keep hearing about that SA had the easier road to the finals compared to ENG is totally incorrect and is getting rather tiresome to hear to be honest. Firstly, SA played all 4 of their pool games vs ENG playing only 3 having their game against France cancelled, which was a huge let off btw as France is a major tier 1 rugby playing nation in the world if anybody cares to remember. This meant that ENG had a whole extra week to rest and prepare, compared to SA, for their quarter final against AUS. Nobody should believe this is insignificant. Secondly, how quickly people forget that Japan managed to beat not only a not-so-long-ago-world-number-1 rugby playing nation in Ireland, who were apparently a favourite to win the World Cup, but Scotland as well to top their pool without losing a single game. Japan were a well coached incredibly fit side riding incredible winning momentum into a World Cup quarter final with home ground advantage and a nation behind them. Anyone thinking SA had an easy game against Japan in a knock out stage are kidding themselves. Thirdly, Wales came into the tournament ranked no. 2 in the world and are the current 2019 six nations champions. There was only a 3 point difference in that semi final game and Wales were looking to get into their first ever final. Now that I think about it I have come to believe that for anyone to say that SA had an easier road to the final is in fact a great compliment to and a fantastic testament of the SA team, coach and management for how they handled their entire tournament to win the trophy and become World Champs. Well done Springboks! As for the accusation made by the host of this show against the Springboks and the whole of the nation's SA rugby players being out of control, unchecked drug abusers and is something that is part of the rugby culture in SA is absolutely disgusting, extremely bad taste and a stupidly ignorant and arrogant thing to say. Cheers!

1. It's very rich coming from Irish commentators speaking about an "easy" route to the final by SA playing Japan in the quarters when it was Ireland who bombed out to Japan in the first place. Stop being so salty. 2. Don't bet against SA in a RWC final - we haven't lost one yet. 3. We managed to win the RC before this tournament. Out of the last three games vs NZ prior to the WC, its one loss, one draw, one win (win and draw were both IN New Zealand). 4. To mention doping during a professional tournament with consistent testing is simply insulting. 5. We aren't as one-dimensional as you think we are. Perhaps - and as much as I love the Irish - that's why we have three world cups and you can't escape a quarterfinal. 6. The Bomb Squad is new and the only team to score tries in that final were the Boks - do you kill expansive rugby by wrong-footing Farrell? Come on. England were tossing passes into touch. 7. That final wasn't just a win. It was flat-out domination. We went in wanting it that much more. 8. Dyantyi was in the extended squad - he wasn't even in the final squad. Tarnishing a victory? How? Perhaps you should watch it all again and figure out how we manage to escape pool stages and win knock-out matches in WCs. Seems more productive than whining.

First time listening, to this show and its name is bang on the money, "OFF THE BALL". There is totally nothing of any qualitative substance relating to rugby here. On Ireland rugby, one simply need only ask: "Hows that working for you"? Out of all the 9 world cups that have been played how many has Ireland won? "0" ZERO! It would be quite constructive to rebrand the show to "ON THE BALL" it might actually be more helpful to the, "ON THE BALL" issues IRISH rugby clearly have, so you can actually focus on the game. Men lie, woman lie, NUMBERS DON'T! Take this from a "3" 🏆🏆🏆 time WORLD CHAMPION. One needs to grow the proverbial "pair" (in line with your rebrand) to take this for what it is. Then again, if not, thats ok.We will leave you to your "NONE (0)" winning ways.

How did the Boks have the easiest route? Boks played all their pool games. England/France was cancelled. Boks were under pressure from the get go after losing to the AB's in the pool opener. Boks played Japan (undefeated till that point) in the quarters, Wales (undefeated till that point including a win against Aus) the semis. And then beat [an undefeated till that point] England in the final. Bok semi final was on Sunday, England's was on Saturday, Boks had a shorter turn around time to the final. Sinckler went off injured but so did Bok inform lock and hooker in Lood and Bongi. Marx's pass was flat. Boks beat them in a home series in June 2018 and lost at Twickenham by a single point, a game we may have won had Owen been penalized for his illegal hit on Kriel.

Jeez you guys are sour... how’s about being a bit more unbiased. And to think, I loved the Irish team and supporters. My favorite anthem and always rooted for Ireland to win, but if you guys are representative of how the Irish are and think... reckon I’ll be very disappointed

Unfortunate comments about this win not having a positive effect on South Africa. France's 1998 win was a huge boost (I was living there), but not a societal transformation. This is only a sport. Drug use by players dampers your enthusiasm for their win? Please, be responsible as a commentator.

Can someone explain to me how beating Wales and Japan(that beat Ireland) was an easier run. I wonder if people that think playing wales(current six nations champions) was easy(maybe not as easy as playing England forsure), I am starting to think that there is no rudgy in the north, if playing Australia and New Zealand is more tough that beating Wales. England where just out classed, if you actually paid attention to how the southern hemisphere teams play. Australia don't play the power game, nor do New Zealand cause those two countries know you can't out muscle the South Africans. Eddy Jones walked into the English job and one of his first interviews was about how you have to have plan to deal with the physicality of the Springboks. Mr Jones is no fool, having been at two world cups before n having been assistant at the 2007 world cup. Sounds like sour grapes to be honest.

I'm here listening to this nonsense in 2022. I can't wait for the Springboks to give you another hiding. Furthermore, I really didn't care for Dyantyi but I hope he's clean and returns to bliksem your team. Unbelievable!
